We all know in these hard time days, if you have a job and income you're the lucky ones!!!
Public servants like policemen, highway patrolmen, constables, firemen, etc. all got decent pay and good benefits(probably better than you and me and lot of others!!!) and most of them are protected by unions. We thank for their services, but should not always go out to ask for more. Here in Houston, it has been reported that $50k, to over $100k annual pay for a policeman is pretty common, plus other benefits...
Yes I received the same call today, and when I picked up the phone, they just hung up !!! Weird ...

Put the number on call blocker or program your cell to recognize the number and assign it a "silent" ringtone as well as notate the number as "scam".

what are these calls for
blessed 2011-08-10 23:39:21 Unknown
It's just terrible when our phone is being consistently rung for solicitation of one sort or another. With all of the scams out there this day and time, how can anyone be assured of what is honest or dishonest? I just simply will not respond to any of these people because calls are coming in from Florida, Texas, Tennessee, California, and numerous other calls that do not identify the state. If I want to donate to anything or anybody, it will be of my own choosing and I will pursue making the initial call to the agency at my discretion. I just will not answer these calls anymore, and that includes the Frat Ord Police 1-940-295-1890 received today.

Just got a call. Starting getting the "Do you agree police is doing an important job" pitch, started to ask to be taken off their list, was hung up upon before I could complete my sentence.
To repeat other's advice: DO NOT EVER give personal information or money to anyone cold-calling you.
creekerjess 2011-04-22 22:40:31 Unknown
this is the first time this number has called our house, but not the first "Fraternal Order of Police" number to have called. every time there is no message left. this time, when the machine picked up, what sounded like an automated voice asked for my husband by his first name, then hung up.

Im on a mission to route out ALL of these scams....DONT DONATE TO ANYONE NOT WILLING TO MAIL YOU!!! Never give out bank account info, etc over the phone...NEVER NEVER NEVER...any legit company will mail you!! This is yet another scam to steal our money and the more money people inadvertantly give them, the longer these "people" will be around

Susan, it is illegal for a debt collector to use someone elses name or company in a way to collect money. Any company who does this type of action can be fined a rather large fine.

DJ~Thanks for taking time to post some of the potential numbers to watch for!! :)
ruralpearl 2011-01-11 21:05:08 Unknown
Susan, by assuming and posting that this is probably a debt collection call, you are pointing the finger at innocent people. I do not receive nor have I ever received calls from debt collectors - period! The general concensus on this site as well as results of other searches for the organization represented and/or the telephone number(s) they call from, reveals these calls are originating from what appears to be the Fraternal Order of Police. Calls under the guise of FOP and Texas State Troopers Association, both legitimate organizations, are telemarketing calls that try to convince you to donate to a cause benefitting the family of a fallen officer by reading off a story that is meant to go straight to your heart, but ends up going straight to your pocketbook. The TSTA has been under investigation by the Texas Attorney General's Office because of false representation by the telemarketers and because less than 2% of funds raised in this manner actually benefit the family of a fallen officer or the cause for which donations were collected. There's that word again ... "collected" ... so perhaps in a roundabout way the FOP and TSTA are "debt collectors" of sorts since once someone agrees to make a donation, they are basically harassed from that point on.

Don't make the caller ID "FRAT ORD POLICE" confuse you. This set of people ask for a donation.
Once you give them anything, you are on their list for life for solicitaion. The first time, they claim
it's to raise funds for the Sherrif Dept. In a few weeks, their stragedy turn to the Firefighters; then
it's for Cancer and so forth...I've checked the BBB, and they claimed once that this charity with
offices all over Texas, will not disclose anything about the money they collect; or specify who is
their main top officers. Also called their number from the ID several times, and they will NOT by
any means answer your call. The Sherrif and Police depts. of Texas say they do not solicit.

I just received a call, from Frat Ord Police, only rang twice and hung up. No msg.

The call blocker software on my PC has the ability to block calls with partial numbers. I've noticed that a lot of the Texas FOP calls come from 940-295-18xx. So I added a filter that zaps any call that starts 940-295-18... It works great.
Susan 2010-11-11 17:34:10 Debt Collector
This is probably a Debt Collector spoofing Caller ID to show Faternal Order of Police instead of the actual originating station. You are likely to have gotten calls the same day or recently from other known Debt Collector's numbers.

This is one of many nuisance numbers used by the "Texas FOP" (TX Fraternal Order of Police), a scam
outfit purporting to raise money for police killed in the line of duty. I rec'd a call on 11/1/10; the last one from this number identified as Texas FOP and was in June.
