I received a message from this Srgt. David Burgos,DEA on the morning of June 13th. He stated my name came up in a federal investigation and he needed a statement to call him back immediately. I tried to call several times and finally a woman answered who asked my name and forward the line to this man. He had me write down all of his information and added case numbers and badge numbers. Said I was being recorded.  He asked if I had been contacted or had been sent emails from any online pharmacies.  I said I had gotten emails in the past but they were just junk mail.  He asked if I knew why I would be getting them?  I said no I figure just like any other junk mail.  Then his tone changed when he asked if in 2005 I bought Phentermine online from a foreign country and named my previous address.  I said I have no idea.  Next he said he had agents 25 minutes from my house and they were on their way with search warrants and a warrant for my arrest. Then I did start to freak out a little and told him he needed to wait as I was going to look up his info and who the hell he was.  I repeated what he said and and asked if he was telling me I was about to be arrested?  He said yes they were on the way.  I called my husband on the house phone with this man on my other ear on my cell.  As soon as he heard me tell my husband what was going on he hung up.  By the time I got in my car to go to my husbands office I googled his name as my husband was calling our local police.  And we soon found out it was all a scam.

Please call the 1-877-732-2873 telephone the Dallas DEA office gave to me this morning (06/10/2013) and leave as much detail on the recording you leave for the DEA who is investigating.  He's really busy this morning!

OMG! He actually thinks folks are going to buy him money cards?  Even though I already made my report to the real DEA, I would like to call him back to just screw with him.  I didn't pick up when he called.  I just let it go to voicemail as I always do when I don't recognize a number.  So I have his entire message ready to be uploaded wherever and whenever possible!

Be careful out there!  Remember, if it sounds suspicious, then be suspicious!  Good luck.

I followed up with my local PD. They referred me to the nearest DEA office in Dallas, TX. The local DEA office referred me to the Rx and Extortion telephone # to report this dude.  The telephone # is 1-877-792-2873.  As one of the users above also posted, there is a link to a website for further info.  In the event you missed the link above, here it is again:  http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/pressreleases/extortion_scam.htm

If it sounds suspicious, it is suspicious.  Don't be fooled.  Just help take these scammers down.

ALERT - EXTORTION SCAM - ALERT
DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.

The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.

Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.

The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.

Prank Call
June 10, 2013.   I just received the same call from David Burgos of the DEA, so he said.   It was the exact same line of needing a statement etc. etc.   He threatened jail, etc.  Turns out he wants me to go to Walmart and buy $500 Greendot money cards, whatever that is, and send them to him in envelopes he will provide once he knows I have the cash in hand.  I decided to google the number and found all your postings.   Thank all of you for posting and helping each other out.   He sounds legit, and everytime you tell yourself this can't be real, he lures you back it.   REPORT this guy over and over and maybe someday he will be caught.

Prank Call
June 10, 2013, 0930, "Special Agent Dave Burgos of the DEA is conducting a federal investigation and your name came up.  I will need your statement immediately.  I will be expecting your call."  Yada yada yada.  What an a**!  I knew it was not legit, however, he does TRY to sound legit.  I just couldn't get over an agent from the DEA needing a statement from me, and especially not over the friggin phone.  What am I, an idiot?  I don't think so!  I am going to call the local PD a file a complaint.  Then they may call him and to get his statement!  Ha!  Or they may do nothing, but I'm not sitting by quietly.

The same scam almost got me. I stopped short thankfully. After you get the money they tell you to convert it to GreenDot money cards in $500 denominations because your a flight risk. I assume if they get you that far then they will change to location from the Federal Courthouse to another location. It's a scam that works because people don't want to get in trouble. If you tell them a lawyer will contact them or if you ask for the main office number then they get mad and tell you that they are going to arrest you and hang up. Makes me sick because they are using fake Law Enforcement as a threat so it will make people suspicious of real law enforcement.

I receive a call from this number today.  I missed the call but he left a voicemail message identifying himself as David Ergos a special agent with the DEA.  He asked i return his call immediately due to an open investigation.  He called me by my first name which kinda ticks me off that he was able to get my information.  I also reported it to the DEA Extortion Scam hotline.

Received email telling me to call this number (a Mr. Edward Ashburn) so that (my delivery man) a Mr. Donald Garvey could deliver a check to me (which was being held up for security reasons. I'm not expecting any check and did not call this obvious scam. Don't know who this number is registered to.
Only surprise is that this garbage usually comes from somewhere overseas.

Prank Call
I received a call from "special agent" Davis Burgos with the DEA as well and he informed me that I needed to get a pen and paper and I could write down his information so that I could verify his credienatial.  I immediately was suspious and since I am at work sitting in front of my computer, I Googled the number while he was talking. And luckily this website came up so when he asked if I had any idea as to why he was calling me I said yes, which really surprised him.  He said you do, why do you think I'm calling and I informed him that I had just googled the number on the caller ID and you are about to try to scam me.....he hung up.

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get the opportunity to jack with him a little..ha!

He called today and I can't believe I fell for it; I really feel stupid.  He had enough information that I thought it was real!  I had purchased some diet pills online over eight years ago (I know, it was stupid), and thought it was in reference to that.  He was so cruel and kept me on the line for awhile, and told me I couldn't tell anyone about the call.  He said I had two choices and that I could either: 1) answer a few of his questions and go down to the federal courthouse to sign some papers or 2) that federal agents would arrest me as my ignorance of knowing that purchasing drugs online didn't excuse the fact that I had participated in a criminal act. I even started to cry, and he kept telling me to stop, that it wasn't helping my case.  I was really, really upset and still just the thought of his voice creeps me out.  I cannot believe I fell for it, as I'm usually pretty aware of things like this.  He somehow must've purchased or gotten ahold of some customer list or something, as I don't see how he would have gotten my cell phone number and previous address, knowing I had purchased diet pills online?  Or, perhaps he is calling many people and just guessing.  At any rate, I just can't believe I even spent that much time on the line with him.  What kind of person would do this sort of thing??

I just got a call from 940-440-8491 claiming he was a DEA agent calling about a case with on line drug pharmacy's and he needed a statement from me.  The call was broken up, bad connection.  Told him I needed to call him back his so called name is David Burgos and he told me that I needed to call back with my statement at 940-440-8491 ext 0611.  Well, I don't order drugs on line, and I knew this sounded real fishy, so I googled before calling back and saw this and notices on the DEA's web site.  I'm going to contact the # on the DEA sites to report the scam of this Aubrey, TX jerk.  Doubt they can find this guy but who knows.  This fricking dirt bag needs to be stopped!!!!

I received a call from this number today and I called back they told me it was a open investigation and that my name came up.  When I called back the "DEA agent David Vurgos" said that they had US Marshals 25 mins away and were going to search my home for illegal drugs and if I did not do as they said they were going to take my children away and send me to prison for 30 years.  I had no idea what was going on I asked them what this was about and they said i bought drugs online ( I did not) I was scared!  He then  said if I paid a fine with him now for  $2,500.00 that it would resolve the situation.  That is when I realized it was a scam.  I told him I only had $16.00  in the bank and that is when he hung up.   BE CAREFUL!  I called the Number on the DEA website and reported this....I also called the scammer back and told him I knew it was a scam!
