I got a call from a "Officer David Marshall" from IRS, stating that he is with IRS Tax and Crime Department and that I am the subject target of an criminal investigation. He asked me to call some 917 number and that if I don't, he takes no responsibility for legal action that might be taking against me in the "coming future."  The message is filled with problems, including grammar issues.  What the heck is the "coming future."  Also, what IRS agent would refer to himself as "Officer David Marshall" -- like he is some police officer.

So if you listen carefully to his phone message, you can tell that he has problems with English because he is missing a lot of articles like "the" in his message.  
Con Artist, Scam!

I received a similar call from one "Officer David Marshall".  Verified online it is a Puerto Rico number:  787-001-0900, but he gave me his number as 916-210-1916.  When I asked him why is this number different from what I see on my phone, he was flustered.  

A Hispanic sounding guy talked tough for 3 minutes.  When I asked him, he said he was calling form "state investigative dept". When I asked about the case, he said he was getting my case file.  After a minute, he came back saying there is a criminal case pending and arrest warrant has been issued.  When I asked him to send me in writing, he said it was sent earlier and there was no response.  Obviously it was a lie.  He talks tough and rattles off some rule.  When I asked who filed complaint, he said IRS.  Said they are gong to put us in jail through local police.  Looks like they are trying to shake down unsuspecting people.

We got a call today from "Alex Martin" thickk Indian accent, background total "call center noise" first said he was an Officer, but then said he was an investigator and there was a legal case. So glad to find these postings!

Got a call from Officer David Marshall alleging that I owed taxes and that I needed to send him a check or else he was going to issue a warrant for my arrest.  This is a complete scam. This guy has a thick Indian accent and is targeting Indians and trying to scare them.
Please ignore any such calls.
The originating number was 717-557-0423, however I'm certain he has many other numbers he uses to call people.

I received phone call from national crime hotline using above number to collect money for IRS tax dues 2798.00. they will record the communications and will send recorded cd via post,

Same thing as all you guys.  I live in WA state and I got a call from David Marshall asking me to call back on 717-826-5956.  I have called-id so I could see he was calling from 949-203-2317.

I have not bothered to call him back, but I put all his number's on my "Do Not Call - Black list"

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

I received call from them. They threat me that they will arrest us. I said go ahead please do that. And I threat them that local police department is recording our phone line. So far did not received call again.

I just received the call from this people. Some one needs to catch these people and send them to jail.

One guy India Accent ( I call him Chutiya ) called my residence  and left the Message ...Legal investigation / state Dept......what Not. Do not reply them . Take both Numbers and report to your local Police Station.

Scammers from this number call indian (more specifically gujarati) people. They said you have missed taxes and you need to send payments. Try to end the call right away. Do not ever give out any personal information..

The person from this number called and impersonated a Government official to harass me to get money out of me.He also threatened with physical violence and to get the cops to arrest me for trumped up crimes!

I would appreciate if someone can tell us as to who can we complain about this, so this can be stopped.

What can be done to teach lesson to this people because I went through same situation. I am going to file complaint against them on do not call list

I got the exact same call and I think scripted, they seem to be like in a call center and yes it was an indian accent for sure, very sad to see this happening the generation has lost it.

Got a call saying they are going to arrest me within 30 minutes if I do not pay the bill and exact same thing they told to all you callers this is extortion and a same on Indians, they are putting all of us Indians down, it seemed like a call center as lt of chattering was going on in the background

Received call from this no telling me he is calling me from investigation department.  Yesterday I received Similar call from New York area code.  These guys are cheater and target immigrants from India.  When I confronted him he started threating me.  They know lot about you and your family do not share any information.  Try to make fun out of this if you can.

A lady called and left voice mail stating some kind of legal problem, then I called three times but no response and hangs up automaticaly. Seems like prank call.

I got a call about 5-6 weeks and was told that I haven't paid my taxes. I was 100% sure that I have paid all my taxes on time. I just started calling him names and all they just hanged up. Now today I got the same call and I just went off on them. This is not only a prank but someone is trying to make some easy money. first time I got call from 810-223-0563 guys name Scott Adams and today from 949-203-2317 with same name.

Got a message from an "Inspector Officer David Marshall" from the State Investigation Department stating that there was a legal case against me and that I should call back the same 949 number listed. The guy had an Indian accent, and I agree, must be looking for some poor, unsuspecting person that would respond. I am a bit relieved to know that I am not alone, but still can't figure what can be done about this, since there has to be many others that these idiots are harassing/extorting.

Add one more to the list. Got a call this afternoon from "Michael Brown". He had a very thick Indian accent. He did give me the address of my house. He said that there was a "case pending against you" with the FTC (huh??), so I asked  him why he was calling? Notices and subpoenas are served in writing. He said that they had mailed out 5 letters, so I asked him to send me one more letter, this time it needed to be sent certified return receipt as proof. He said that they would not do so since they had already sent 5 and that he was doing me a favor by calling. By this time I was openly laughing at him. I have lived in the US way too long for a moron like that to take advantage of me. They have not idea of what due process is in the US. I deal with the legal issues for my company and have law enforcement officers as good friends of mine. I asked for his information - phone number - the one that we all got (which is registered as a telemarketer phone) and I said that I would get back to him if I felt like. He was not happy about the fact that I was now laughing even harder. So he got off the phone and said that the police will come in 30 minutes to arrest me. To which I laughed again and asked him to go right ahead and send them over. It has been 4 hours and no sign of the police.

I do not believe that any of these individuals are located in the US or at least not where the phone is believed to be registered to - in Irvine, CA. If they were in the US, then they might have some fear of the law and not operate in such a blatant/arrogant manner. They seem to operate out of a room  - you could hear a lot of background chatter. Anyway going back to the fact that they might not be in the US is further supported by the fact that they could be using a service like VOIP service that could place them anywhere in the world.

My only regret was not playing with him longer to find out what he wanted from me or what their modus operandi is. I was laughing too hard! Maybe I will call him back. Heh heh and have some fun at his expense for a change. I would like for all of us to call back and have some fun with these individuals. So go ahead make the call and let these individuals know that they should go out, do an honest days work and make a real living rather than trying to cheat other people out of their hard earned money.

This isnt a prank call!! This is a group of people trying to extort money from unsuspecting people. They are representing themselves as the IRS. They called a disabled client of mine and scared him to death. No prank, EXTORTERS

A call from this number. Indicated that there was criminal case against me and 3 lawyers are listening to this conversation. The guy had questions. I told him that I won't answer any questions on the phone and asked that they send me written communication. They indicated that they will send police right away to arrest me.  I said I needed written communication.  Call ended. I called back. They answered and wanted my name. I inquired about their agency and their affiliation with a US law enforcement agency. They could not answer my question.

If they call you, challenge them. Get their name, tel number and say that you will have your attorney contact them.

Same as Balaji & SKD & Prakash - All are cheater... There is another no also from Michigon... Same kind ... When I asked them more info than said " You are talking to Investigator . Cool Down... These kind of call already came to 5 times. They give your address & everything Correct.... Be Careful....
