Perhaps if you all would pay your bills you would not receive collection calls. As a licensed bill collector in Canada, I have never had any issues with collections because I am polite and respectful of individual circumstances that people fall upon hard times and may not be able to pay off their bills. I am caring and understanding, and I treat people with the same respect I would want to be treated if I was in their shoes. Debt is frustrating all on its own to manage and sometimes people lose jobs, get hurt in the work place, get divorced, or even some have mental health issues. There are a variety of reasons why people run into financial difficulties. Perhaps if the debt collector is understanding then people would start making payments on their accounts. I find being able to effectively communicate with the individuals whom I collect from goes a great way. I try to work out a solution that helps people. Unfortunately some of my colleagues are not nice while making collection calls and they take a very aggressive approach. I suggest to people who are dealing with a rude and mean collector is record the calls and forward it to the licensing body who licenses the collector. It is important that complaints are made in writing so these individuals lose their jobs. I hate it when I hear my coworkers be rude. I find you get more bees with honey then vinegar. Also I see a lot of posts of individuals who get frustrated with calls for the wrong individual. At times we are provided telephone numbers that may or may not be the person we are looking for. If you are polite to them when they call, ask the collector to please remove the number. Then after the call call the collection agency back and ensure that your number is taken off the list. They call my cell number all the time looking for my ex-wife.  They call from multiple numbers, multiple area codes.  Another number they seem to use is 714-922-9489.  So, my cell phone can block all of these numbers as they come in.  What this means is that they won't ring, but go straight to voicemail.

Once they call from a blocked number, they call back 1 minute later from "Unknown".  How creative.  :)  Yes, unknown callers are blocked also.  Problem solved.  :)

Simple truth in this day and age, is beware of anyone you don't know that you give any information to.  Who is to say they aren't looking to find out in my case, information about me, rather than my ex-wife?

Another way to fix this, and most of these hostile calls is to simply say that "all calls of this nature are being recorded" (you are required by law to state it if you actually are anyway).  They will hang up in a second, if they are being recorded, and won't take the chance.  After all, if companies can record you for "quality assurance and training", why can't you, to provide feedback of the same?

Incidentally, in the defense of a legitimate debt collector, they have heard about everything from people trying to get out of their debts.  But, I agree unanimously with everyone else.  A little kindness could go a long ways.  Personally, if they could find the offending party, they should have let the courts do their thing.  It's amazing how many "last chances" they have called with.

You are most likely one of the scam artist that works for Atlas. Why would I pay my hard earned money to a "company" that gives no proof in writing? I suggest people find the legit debt collector that purchased the debt they owe. Don't give a dime to these bottom feeders!

This company keeps calling me stating that I owe them money ,but they will not tell me how I owe and the amount.They keeping calling my work.

first I heard from this caller.  No idea who they are or what this is about.  It was on my cell which is not public info, so I assume they're just fishing

here are some additional phone numbers Atlas uses...btw, they told me that they are calling me because my name was put down as reference...WTF?  Again, some jerk I've never heard of made up a phone number and is using it to scam whomever.  My phone number is listed so I get the call from Atlas and they knew my name.

they are also demanding and rude......I never pick my phone up if its not the area code of 415, 519, or 650

My first husband commited financial fraud. I had to decare bankruptcy to get away from his debts!
Atlas is breaking the law by piggy backing old debts which were dismissed under bankruptcy.
They falsely identfy themselves as attorneys which is a felony. They use social networks like Faceboik o contact relatives. My credit score is in the 800's. So there is no reason for them to call.

I got my first call from AR associates today. I let my machine pick it up, they were very threatening demanding that I call them back and that it must be done "TODAY".  After reading all the other comments I feel that I may be getting their calls for a while.

this number called with a automated voice stating i had to call them back, not knowing what they wanted i called back and they directed me to a voice mail of someone. needless to say i did not leave a message, and will never answer that number.

This number keeps calling my fiance's house and they say its important to speak with him. They claim to be Atlas and Associates debt collection agency but something seemed extremely fishy about them. They left the name Javier Velasco and to call back at 949-797-7102. They even left a reference number. The one day we answered the phone because they would call the house at all hours of the day. They wouldn't tell us what the debt was for nor would you even really understand them. (heavy accent.) He told them he wouldn't give them anything and to send him paper work in the mail. He actually got a letter from them a few days latter and the letter looked like something I could have typed up myself and printed at home. The letter head looked copied and was all in black and white. It wasn't even clear. All the letter said it he owed them so much money and didn't explain why. Then later that day they called my work looking for me to find him. I have no idea how they got my name and work information. We don't live together nor are we married or have a mutual bank account. Extremely fishy. It is scary that they managed to find my name and work information and called harassing me at my job looking for my fiance. Like I said we have no mutual anything and don't even live in the same house. I am going to report them as scams. I just wish I new how to get them to stop calling me.

These guys work upstairs from my office. i hear them harrasing clients all the time. theyre located in santa ana.

That pretty much validates that they are thieves,  scammers or just bottom feeding 3rd part collectors,   or all three.

Sounds like you raised a dead beat maybe you should get her into credit counseling so show can learn how to pay her bills

I received a call a couple months, similar to the descriptive calls , I never called back ignoring the calls taking the advice of these post (bad decision) .
Friday August 9th I received a notification to appear from the legal deparment at this recovery company they will not accept anything but the full balance

They are rude and they really have no people skills but I will say I'm not going to take the advice of a bunch of unemployed people sitting at home dodging there creditors anymore.

9497977100 Atlas Recovery, did you ever not pay a bill. AR Associates will buy this debt for pennies on the dollar and then call you dozens of times to try to collect, their tactics are dirty, they are rude, they make threats, it must suck being them! Just tell them to %^&$ off or ignore them, get a lawyer, and make Atlas prove they own this debt and have the right to collect. THEY PROBABLY CANNOT. Just block their numbers from your phone, and get a lawyer.

I think they are now using another number-received VERY rude calls from Atlas Recovery 949-797-7122; they said someone who i dont know put my name on a reference check for credit; is there anything that anyone has done that actually works-this is the second time over the last few years that this has happened to me ; the first was a male and he was very nasty, told me to get a job(I have a very good one) and tried to have me make a payment on the phone-wish I would have recorded it now but at the time I didn't think of it; now it is happening again and I would very much like these dirtbags to get caught

So this is a debt collecting agency?? They asked for two differnt names and how ling I have had my number I answered and asked what kind of business compinay they were they gave me a vague answer sayinf its atlas recovery

How about a class action suit? These guys have been harassing me as well, even called my boss insinuating I owe them money. When they first started calling me a couple of months ago, I tried to find out what money they think i owe, but they refused to give me any info, just said if I didn't pay this huge amount of money immediately they were garnishing my wages. I asked for something in writing and they refused to provide it.

I have been getting these calls about a payday loan that I supposedly have never paid back.  The guy calls himself Richard Lopez from ICI, and I can either settle the debt with him over the phone now with a credit card, or they will send a subpoena to my place of employment stating that I have to appear in court in California.  

Everything about this screams scam because he cannot provide any details, but yet he knows everything about me, which is not hard considering facebook, twitter, and other sites.  What is really pissing me off is that he is bothering me at work now.

Steve DeAngelo called me a couple of times and once I told him that everything on the internet says they are frauds he became real hostile and eventually hung up on me.  I continually asked for documention (which they said they would provide after I gave them my debt card information).
