I just got Text message from the 1 949 973 1664,. I already talk with my cell phone provider, To get rid of them.  Simple Reply Back Type STOP,.. then they will not send back again. And if your device provide, block the number too.
If you receive more then ONE a day,. then you should put your number as Do NOT Call List.  Also tried premium Service but It was down for a bit,. but they never give up.  I am tired of spammer.

As long as you pay your phone bill quietly, you won't see any change from the mobile providers....they make their money on this...although they aren't responsible.  The phone number of the origination is false. A spoof.  The email for opt out is false.  Doesn't exist except in your address bar.  If you go to your yahoo email account and send a message to the yahoo opt out address....you'll get a very complete rejection.  The problem you're facing with these reports is the 'identity' is all a spoof.  They're using single use, not contract, mobiles to capture the responding text.  That's the phish....your valid mobile number + you're gullibility.  You become a fixed mark and they're a moving target.  Petition your phone provider to capture more info from the origination and they can, but again.....a moving target based on a lot of spoofing.  I've googled "optout4@yahoo.com" and there are 345 hits as of today.  If you could catch one of these asshats, they could be hurt badly using the Can-Spam and/or Do Not Disturb and you would be $11,500 richer for each violation.  Write your congress and clearly force the issue that some sort of validated ID header info needs to be included in texts...even when they are computer generated, which these are.  If you have a Blackberry, get Privacy Star.  It costs money, but will help somewhat.  Until carriers are faced with losing money, they won't do anything that adds a cost layer to what they sell.  Unless congressmen sense they might lose their cushy job and benefits, they won't do anything.  Contact an FCC operative and try to start a conversation to find out what they're going to do to cut this crap out.  It really would be easy to do.  A simple electronic finger print tied to the originating entry point, IP address, NNX, NPA or better yet, combine the two and you're off and running to capture these scammers

Look, all of these SMS Phishing texts are sent using false information.  The only communication that goes back to the sender is when you reply to the text itself.  They can then sell these numbers as valid to other scammers as well as take your money once there's a communication channel opened up that you fall into.
The origination number is random and fictitious.  The email address for opting out doesn't exist either.  The messages are not sent from a mobile phone so they send thousands at a time using random number tables generated from known carrier number assignments.  They're sent from a computer using a spoofing app and there's no cost at all to the sender.  Virtually every cellphone with SMS or email turned on will receive a message sent to phonenumber@carrier.com.   Write your congressman.  If you have a blackberry, then you can use Privacy Star.

I'm sure other apps will soon be available for the other smart phones....but they cost a few bucks.  Once you have one of these apps, the info, the real identity info is trapped and can be forwarded to the FCC as a Can-Spam and/or Do not Disturb violation.  That will get you $11,500 from the sender as a penalty fine....but you gotta catch em!

I got one of those calls today, and you can't tell me the government isn't complicite in this nonsense.  That's my personal opinion.  With all of the complaints the FCC has gotten over this scam, why isn't anything being done about it?  Ever wonder about that?  Not only do they have the Yahoo email address of the culprit, they have the phone number as well.  So, why aren't they investigating this situation and doing something about it?

The first complaint here was in May.  This is now October?  What's wrong with this picture?

You're a tard. If you go to the FCC site for spam like this, it clearly states TEXT SPAM is covered like phone spam is. Like the person above you stated, file a complaint. Anyone with half a brain can trace the number back and find that they aren't computer generated texts, they're actual cellphones.

Just as an FYI, folks - being on the Do Not Call list does not keep you from receiving these.  These are not CALLS; they are TEXTS.  They are being generated and sent via a computer. Actually, US Cellular won't allow computer-generated texts to be blocked, because they, themselves offer a "send a text via our website" service.  HOWEVER, you CAN request that all "PREMIUM" text services (which is a fancy way of saying "charge-incurring") be blocked, and that will help.

Often, if you are not a "member" of whatever site, they reserve the right to send you a single spam, but no further messages unless you "join."  These folks get your number from things like Facebook or Myspace, from games you play, from surveys you fill out where you are asked at the end to please enter a phone #.  My # got spammed because my pre-teen daughter was doing IQ tests and surveys.  Beware, folks...

I also got the same message - this time from number 717-414-6376 (I've reported it separately for that number). Seems that these a$$holes are all over the country. Everyone, please report these numbers to the FCC at

https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form1088.action?form_type=1088G

Put the owners of these numbers in the kind of trouble they deserve. I don't use text messaging often enough to get a plan - 20 cents each! Be sure to block the numbers from your carrier's website (usually in your account).

By "opting out" you acknowledge that someone received their text and they know your number is live opening you up to more spam.   It might be their system just randomly txts folks and hopes for a response.

The danger in responding is the same danger you are in when you naively open an email attachment.  If you've used a computer more than once in the last 20 years it should be painfully obvious that legitimate business do not randomly txt people. (except your cell provider)

i have no idea what information the call is "gathering" or what the "danger" is in responding. The posts on this site say "don't do it" but no one says why and i have no idea if this site is even on the up and up. i've never heard of it before and there doesn't seem to be any authority in charge.
