This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

I just got 2 calls from these people, the first call was at 8 am, i told him immediately to put me on their DNC list, he called me right back and said he was from the state att'ys office.  I asked for what state, he would only say his office was in CA.  I filled out a request for a pay day loan on 365 day loan's website.  researched them, thought they were legit.  since then I have received over 200 phone calls (in 5 days) and 500 emails from other companies.  DO NOT USE THAT COMPANY, all they do is gather your info and sell it. I never even took the loan, from anyone, I have never had one.

Let them know you found out it was a scam!  I did what folks suggested and blocked my phone and called them back.  They answer how can I help you?  B*****ds and they have the nerve to get smart.  Let them know that they are all over the internet as a scam and watch how ignorant they become.

These folks just called me at 8:30 am.  They left a VM saying I had a debt they didn't say payday loans.  I was threatened that a sheriff would appear at my job and that I would receive a document saying I lost my job and he was preparing it as we spoke.  I politely asked the man, for verifying information as to when this happened and he got upset.  He gave me my email address and the last 4 digits of my social security number.  I continued to ask for information and he got upset.  I asked to speak with someone else as it was difficult for me to understand him and he said there was no one else to talk to.  Did some internet research and found you guys.  Called them back to let them know I was going to report them and the number doesn't even ring.  It clicks, there is the old internet noise then the phone is silent.  Im pissed off right now.

This son of a ***ch calls 50 times a day and called my husbands supervisor.  My sister owns www.debtsurvivalinfo.com and contacted the FBI regarding this matter.  I'm going to my local police office and filing a formal complaint to show my husbands employer that this is a scam.  Also, they got ahold of my husband and he didn't understand it was a scam and they gave him a social security number that did not belong to him so he corrected them and gave him his.  DO NOT DO THIS! Keep the message go to the police and play the message this is a deliberate threat to you AND it's against the law.

Just received a call from this same number at work, woman or man had a very think accent, but her name is Crystal Brown.  Apparently, I have 3 criminal charges against me, a warrant out for my arrest and get this, "they" John E. Best law offices will notify my Employer to "suspend" my work privileges, WTH?!  However, I started asking "Crystal" some tough questions regarding their clients that are reportedly suing me.  I also advised her that my company monitors all calls for quality assurance purposes and that our conversation is being recorded.  Crystal said something about "good luck with what is about to unfold upon you" and hung up!  I hung up and looked around for the hidden candid camera or someone to tell me I just been phone tapped by the Elvis radio morning show....ha!  my coworker told me to google the phone number and received the validation that this was a stupid scam!  Helpful Tip: if you receive a similar call from this number, start off by informing them that the call is being recorded or put your "fake" attorney voice to handle this fake law firm!  LOL

The..."individual" making these extortionist threats is NOT "Chris Miller" or a "state attorney". He is a hardcore CRIMINAL, operating from within an overseas boiler room trying to intimidate you into paying a debt you DO NOT OWE. Let him know the next time he calls you know this is an extortion scam, have NO intention of paying him anything, have turned him into the authorities and hang up. You also need to place fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus (your identity may have been stolen) and notify your bank and employer.

He said if I was on probation or parole I better contact my officer and do I have a lawyer.   I asked for copies of the papers he told me I have to oay $575 to avoid being arrested when I told him he was threatening me and I wanted to see the letter he hung up on.  So I called back tl get it.  I call back he said he was the state attorney office named chris miller

They claim to be clalling me from the law office of theirs claiming to have a lawsuit against my social security number for what reasons, I don't know.  GE money bank had supposedly claim a suit against me for  not  going through with a loan process because of suspected fraud on their end wanting me to pay money to borrow 5000 dollars that I was supposedly qualified for with no credit check. Bogus right.  It is kust so hard to trust anyone these days.

The same thing happened to me today. He stated that I had 3 criminal charges against me with the California State Attorneys office.  He would not identify what company he was with nor would he provide any file numbers. I flat out told him that this was no way to conduct business and that I'm an upstanding citizen and I knew for a fact there are no criminal charges pending against me....He hung up!!!!!
