My daughter has been getting calls from a Mark Jones for David Cooper stating the same things as all the other posts here. But the phone # has changed. They are now using 707-513-1085. Thankfully, I was home for the first call she received. She was very upset and didn't know how she would pay the supposed attorney since she has been laid off from work. I knew immediately it was a scam and found this website to show her. Thank you all for your posts. Even if nothing is done, there is some peace of mind knowing that it is a scam and others are reporting these obviously sick individuals.

I received calls today from this number.  The man said his name was Brian Johnson and it was the same story as everyone else's.  I called the FTC and reported it.  They have had numerous reports about this.  The town the calls are from is Corona, CA.  I have also emailed their chief of police and City Manager.

On Nov. 14, 2011, I received a voice message from Matt Thompson informing me this was a very important matter one that I should not disregard and if they did not hear from me the matter would be turned over to their attorney. Naturally I immediately returned the call, a man with a very thick accent took my call and identified himself as an attorney with the US Federal Legislative. He went on to say that he represents US Cash Advance and that I had secured a payday loan with them; they had attempted to debit my checking account for payment of the loan and the account had been closed. I was being sued by US Cash Advance in the CA. Federal Court and paperwork was in route to the Sheriff's Office in Washington, DC. Upon receipt of the paperwork the Sheriff's Office would arrive at my office at 11:30 to arrest me and take me back to CA. for my court appearance. The call nearly paralayed me, I told the man that I would call my bank to find out what was going on and he responded well you need to tell your bank to meet you at the court house in CA., I know that I had not barrowed money from anyone but I was so scared I was not thinking clearly. I then told the man I would need to call my attorney and have him to call and get a grip on this situation, the man then said it was too late he was not going to speak with my attorney. I could not believe what had just happended, I needed to tell someone so I confided in a co-worked and she responded they did me the same way and proceeded to describe virtually the same senrio; I then new I had been scammed. Unfortuantely my co-worker was scammed for nearly $2000.  I called this David Cooper back and told him that he had scammed a my co-worker and that I was reporting him to the police, he then verified my suspisions when he responded "You B***s***." I feel so bad for my co-worker, these people should be locked up!

i received a call at 6:15am on 11/12/2011 stating that i or my attorney needed to contact from Mark Davis and to return the call to (951) 582-4825 or 4835 telling me that i owe like anywhere between $400 - $3000 from some payday loan that was never paid off and that there is a lawsuit against me! i immediately checked my bank account and found nothing of the sort and then i checked my email and found nothing either. I told him that if he could not go into detail and explain where these charges came from and how he received my information that i would call the police, the FBI, and the BBB. He tried to rush me off the phone and when i talked to the police a few mins later, he told me that it was a scam and to disregard it. BEWARE AND BE CAREFUL!!! THESE IDIOTS MUST HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT THERE IS INTERNET AND LAW OFFICIALS THAT DEAL WITH THINGS LIKE THIS ON A DAILY BASIS!!!

IT'S ALL A BIG SCAM FOLKS!!!!  This is the 2nd number that these scammers have called me from in the past couple of months. If you have ever applied for an online loan or payday loan, that's how they get all your info. They claim to be calling from the "Legal Back Office" of the "Customer Affairs & Business Relations Department" of some firm which they will not give you the name of. That's the 1st red flag. The 2nd is that everyone there has heavy accents but totally American/English-sounding names. The 3rd red flag is that they can't give you any info on the company you owe the money to. When you take out a payday loan, the money is debited out of your account to pay it back, so they figure that most people will be like, "Gee I thought they debited my checking account & paid that off a long time ago, but OMG I better resolve this ASAP by sending the money in before I get arrested & prosecuted!!!"
I called them back & said I was from the "Telephone Security Commission" & I had 5-6 complaints against them on my desk in front of me. I said I was an investigator and they promptly hung up.

That's key to their scheme: Catching you off-guard when you are tired or vulnerable, hoping that you will immediately send in that money to avoid all those "serious charges". I have been getting these calls ever since I applied online for a couple of loans several months ago. I have the names of the actual companies I do owe & how much just in case. But I'm beginning to have fun playing right back with these scammers. Tell them that you are with the FCC or law enforcement or that you are an attorney or challenge them in any way & I guarantee they will promptly hang up.

these a***oles called me yesterday i was just as freaked out as everyone else until i figured out it was a scam. i called the police and made a complaint with the FBI fraud department. from what i was told nobody is going after these scum bags. so now i am. I call them all day (luckly my job allows me to) and then really make sure to call them super late at night and early in the morning. i don't yell or scream but i use every offensive racial term and name (and i'm far from a racist, but this gets the biggest rise out of them) as calm as day. i keep them on the line as long as i can, cause every second they speak to me is one they won't be scaring some poor mother and threatening her kids. I honestly hope that i make them mad enough to come find me. I suggest everyone waste as much of their time as we can. Also a fun move is call and blow a whistle into the mic, they love that one. hahaha

Don't worry, it's a big scam. They had me all worked up the very 1st time they called me, but it was a different group of scammers from another number. I've dealt with this group as well. The story is always that same. I've applied for payday/short-term loans online & that's the main way that they get all your info. Normally they call people outside of California, that way you are less likely to investigate further & more likely to get scared & send them money so you don't get "arrested". I live in PA so I'm their prime target. They even like to throw that in by saying, "You & your attorney will have to come all the way to California to appear in court if you don't resolve this"....It's total BS.

As soon as you challenge them they will usually hang up on you. When I told them that I was going to contact the FCC, the guy said "We hate them" & hung up on me. They definitely need to be stopped.

A lot of these scammers have a way 2 "spoof" caller ID somehow. They may not even B in Cali. I had a different scammer call me from a "California" number, so I pressed them 4 an address. They gave me an address in San Diego which, upon Googling, didn't exist.

If U have ever applied 4 a payday loan or something like that online, that's how they got all UR personal info. Those payday websites share all UR info with auto loan companies, debt companies, & scammers like this. They R just trying 2 scare U in2 sending money in 2 them. As soon as U challenge them or threaten them back, they will hang up on U.

I thank you guys so much!!! I received this call today at 4:00 pm and honetly I thought it was fishy, I went ahead and Googled the number and it brought me to this page. Same situation I was told that 3 lawsuits had been filed under my name and SS for a loan of $400 that I supposedly got between March and October, and when I pushed for information of the provider as well as the employee name and ID of these people they suddenly turnned defensive and I was told," I already told you the situation and reason why there is 3 lawsuits against you I don't feel it's necesary to repeat it again so if you don't pay immediatly you will be arrested at 6:00 pm central time." and he hung up. I did call to FTC and filed a complaint, but they assured me that that was all they could do. Because these people have the last 4 digits of my SS, my bank name, and my employer what can I do???

I got a call today.  I recently applied for a payday loan but never followed through with it.  He had all my banking info and social number and wouldnt answer any questions.  I called the police and they have no arrest warrants for me, which is what the man told me.  He said the cops would be at my house within an hour unless i paid him 300 dollars.  I hung up and called back and told him to go F^%K himself.

What a bunch of goobers! I had "Mr. Cooper"call me today and threatning me with a jail sentence for money laundering! What a scam! I have no loan or do I owe them a dime. They gave me a huge spill about the laws I had broken much like everyone else has spoken of. Very broken english. David Cooper has broken english. They called my work as well so they have broken laws themselves right there. This is the biggest joke ever for these guys to think they can get by with this.

This number just called my coworker, verbatim to the first comment above. He came in in a panic ready to hand over money so he wasn't taken away from his kids. I told him to relax and found this website. He will be contacting the local authorities and probably channel 13 news (in las vegas). now i have to ask, did this guy actually contact your employer or did he just harrass you personally?
