Received a call today at 4:34 pm which displayed from "Kavish Technsof".  With his very thick Arabic sounding accent he started spouting off about my computer.  Let him know this was the third time in two days that I've gotten these calls, that I wasn't stupid and that I knew they were scammers.  Then I spouted off a few words to him that I cannot repeat here and hung up.

Why can we not list "scam" under Call Type below?  Why is that not one of the choices?

Like the others before me, I got a call a couple of months ago the first time and nearly fell for it.   The second time someone called about 2 weeks ago, I told them to please take me off their list.  Today, Mike Jordan "Mikey" called me say that my computer was sending their server messages that I had a virus.  It was difficult to just get the number and name out of him, and he will call me back tomorrow at the same time.

The best way to handle these idiots is to keep them on the phone for as long as possible.  I gave them the nice rosey run around for nearly 10 minutes.  They pretend to be from "Microsoft windows", tell you that your computer is "downloading files", and want to walk you through some crap to download their real virus onto your machine and take it over.  Don't give them any real information, and don't do anything they ask.

Heavy Indian accent - Claimed to be with the "Microsoft Windows Service Center" and that my computer was sending messages to "the server" that I had a serious infection.  I wasn't busy, and decided to "play" with him.  He follows a script, and has the user navigate to ini files that "show the virus" and then asks for remote control to be initiated so they can "fix it".

I asked the location of the company and he said "San Francisco".  I asked for the street address and he said "it is company policy that we cannot reveal that".  I asked for just the Zip code and he gave me 46206.  I verified that he said he was in San Francisco.  They should teach a little US geography in Indian public schools.

I asked how they determined that my computer was the source of the virus and he said it is sending messages to the server.  I was tired of dealing with it so I asked him what IP the messages came from - he said "it is company policy that we cannot reveal that".  He offered to remove the problem if I would enter a remote assistance request in Windows.  I declined and he hung up.

P.S. I'm not sure why my Ubuntu system was sending alert messages about a Windows virus. :-)
P.P.S. Maybe there is room in Gitmo for these guys.

I just received a call from a woman with a thick Indian accent claiming to be from Microsoft and that she wanted to help me because some files I was trying to download are infected.  I told her I couldn't do it now, googled the telephone number she said I could get back to her with, and wrote this warning.

My caller ID recorded a call from this number with name Norwood Young MN at 6:12 p.m. on 4/26/14. Again, at 8:14 p.m. it appeared with "Out of Area"; however showed up as Unknown on my tv screen.  I let answering machine take over and got a hang-up.  I do not answer 800 or "Unknown" numbers nor do I answer numbers/names unknown to me.  Just let answering machine take over.  Thanks for the previous posts.  Now I know not to answer or to cuss the caller out if I do if calls become too annoying while I am watching tv or reading/working in my home.

Same scenario. Claimed to be Microsoft technical support. against my better judgement, let him remote in. He told me my windows license expired and I had to renew it. I told him it was b.s. He said he had to disable my computer until I resolved the issue. My desktop went blank. I unplugged the network wire, rebooted and cursed him out. I dare him to call me back.

Claimed to be calling from "Windows Corporation" or Microsoft, at various times. Said they had been sent a report that my computer has been hacked and need me to allow them access to stop the problem, or my computer would stop working. I've received so many of these calls in the past, that I knew it was a scam. Caller ID said "Unknown Caller" so I asked for their number and was given 952-467-6390. I played innocent and kept asking questions and was eventually hung up on.

Rebooting will not un-install the malware they installed when they were in your computer.  You need to recover an older version of your system or take your computer to a reputable local computer repair place and let them do it.

My neighbor fell for it.  After I told her it was a scam she took her computer to be repaired.  They discovered that the scammer turned off her anti-malware.

I let them into my computer. They locked it by making my icons disappear. I realized the task bar was down below vision. I completely rebooted my hard drive and have had no trouble since.  Do not let these people into your computer if you do just reboot/recover your hard dive to undo what they did to your computer.

A person with strong Asian accent called several times telling "that my computer was sending many downloads and that he needed some information in order to correct the problem"  He gave his name as "Justin Paul" and requested that my husband call back at 1-952-4676390.  I contacted my Internet Company and they confirmed it is a SCAM.

Yep, just had a similar call, thick accent, could barely understand him as his english was choppy at best.  He wanted to read me my license number to prove he was legit.  I said I would have to call him back; he said his name was Justin Paul at 952.467.6390.  I was concerned that it WAS legit (he said they were receiving hacking reports, and the telephone number traces to Young America, MN, where Microsoft would appear to have an office).  I contacted Microsoft; they confirmed it was a scam and advised that they would be forwarding the matter to the FTC.

I was called today by "James Burton" who kept me on the phone for quite a while as I kept telling him that I was very suspicious as to why windows would call me instead of the other way around.  He had an answer for everything along with a thick Indian accent and disputed all of my suspicions.  He gave me the same 952-467-6390 number to call him back.  The scariest thing was he knew my correct windows ID # which freaks me out as I know this will definitely get some people to follow this all the way thru & allow access to their computer. I want to know how they are able to get this information and your phone number!  It does make you think for a minute that maybe they are legit because HOW DO THEY GET YOUR WINDOWS ID NUMBER???!!! I am peed off but glad that I did not allow him to completely trick me and access my system.  Tell everyone you know about this!  I am suspicious of EVERYTHING but somehow him knowing that ID# unnerved me enough to almost do what he said!  BIG SCAM!
