We've had our new phone number for a couple weeks. It's not even listed yet.  They called a couple of times.  No messages.

Got a message on my cell phone from a John Martin, just asked me to call him back very casually.  When I called back he answered and said he was on the other line, could he call back in five minutes, I asked where he was calling from and again he repeated that he was on the other line and wanted to call me back in 5 min., again I asked where he was calling from and rudely he stated that I was making someone hold on another line and said that he would discuss all that with me when he called me back in 5 min.  Well he called again and i didnt answer because I am at work.  Glad there are postings out here like this.  Has anyone figured out how to make the calls stop?

called me on a Sunday Night at 9pm on my private number about my sister and would not disclose any info, also called other family members on their private numbers and was rude.

No one Has to have Your specific number (especially companies) in order to call you.  
Numbers are in a database and dialed randomly by a computer to determine the best time to call when a person will be there to answer the phone and make a buying decision.  I have seen the following recommendations - have not attempted them myself, but think that they do sound plausible:

The three little words are: "Hold On, Please."

Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging -up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system.

i just got my new phone number 7 days ago and have been receiving calls all different times of the day and night from 952-746-4143 i just picked up to answer it today and the woman on the line rudely asked for my husband and i stated he was not home and if i could take a message or if i could help her out but she just hung up on me i am glad i decided to check it out the that number on the internet apparently i am not the only one get calls from unwanted telemarketers call id just shows unavailable with the number

Same as the rest I have read, I pick up and say hello and as soon as I do, the caller hangs up. My phone alsois fairly new. I have only had this number for about a month. I suspect it is some sort of scan to develop phone lists for telmarketing or market research. If you call them back, they could then legally call because it would show how had called them at least once.

I just got a new number from Embarq and immediately started getting the calls from 952-746-4143.  I called the 800 number listed above (800-339-9492)and got their customer service.  She said she would remove me and it could take up to two days.  Registering with the FCC's Do Not Call List can take up to 90 days.

Yup, I'm a new Comcast Voice over IP customer, have had my number 5 days, and I too have started getting the calls. Christ on a cracker, I purposefully changed my number to get away from telemarketing calls, and those jerks at Comcast sell my new number?!?!

Anyway, for those of you with Comcast VOIP, just add the number to your blocked numbers list - it's pretty easy to add the numbers you want screened through their Digital Voice Center

They have called me about 4 times in the last couple of days and I have to hang up because they don't answer me back. This is odd. The only thing I can think of is that they are trying to get the answering machine in case the person provides his/her name in the message.

calls constantly at various hours. Needs to stop now

Just switched to Comcast and had phone about a week since 6/2 and only given to 3 people and they have called atleast 3x a day with no answer/reply. I just hang up and they call right back WTF?!!???

Just signed up for Verizon Wireless with FIOS and Direct TV less than a month ago.  Within a week, starting receiving phone calls with no one on the other end or inaudiable.  I registered, my phone number at donotcall.gov and the problem should clear up in thirty days.  If the calls continue, report the problem on the website and they can be subject to fines.

I am a verizon land line customer and have only had the phone for a week. This number calls at least 3 times a day starting early in the morning.

I got a call from them and looked up Viking Mag, I got an 800 number, called, the rep told me it was not their company.  She gave me another # 1-800-339-9492.  I called it and they took my name off their list.  Try this and see if it works for you.

We have moved in and have had new phone number.They were the first one to call us.And they also knew our last name....We feel so uncomfortable for phone call from them.
They also keep calling once or twice a day at least 4-5 days in a week.

I recieved a call from this company 11:47am, 5/24. I didnt recongnize the number so didnt answer the phone no message left.
Im a Time Warner Customer. I dont think it is just Comcast customers. It sounds like its a lot of us from many different services.

this number called twice today just got my phone on 5/18 they left a noisy background message the first time and the second time my husband answered and they asked for him and he said he wasn't available but he asked who was calling and it was viking magazine and her name was katie, i just signed up with GCI in alaska...grrr.

Repeadly calls even though my phone has just been installed.

these people keep calling my phone have no clue who or what it is but it is getting on my nerves they call everyday a couple times a day everytime they call i pick up the phone and i hear nothing and then they hang up
