I just wanted you to know that this exact same thing happened to my husband. They called him, then called me to tell me that he was being arrested. But I knew we had never obtained a internet loan and told them where they could shove their scam!! I hope you did too!!! They even got to the point of threatening us by saying they knew our address and were coming to our house. They said our exact address. So we called our local sheriff and let then know. PLease be careful!! These people sound dangerous!!

A guy with a heavy foreign accent, maybe Indian accent, called me at work yesterday afternoon (they always call on a Friday afternoon), and he said his name was Al Smith (very generic) and he was an attorney. He said I was going to be arrested at my workplace and that I would lose my job. He said an affidavit was filed against my social security number and he worked for the "Crime Department." I asked him that if his claim was valid, that I would have received something in writing. He ignored that and rambled on that I would go to jail. I told him that I have an attorney and my attorney said that unless they send something in writing, and they have a legal business address, that the caller is a fraud. I told him I was going to call the police and then I hung up. The next time they call I am going to ask him if I can record the call so that I can have the police listen to it for validity. Also, I may ask him if I can set up a conference call with my lawyer so as to get to the bottom of it. Maybe he will just hang up.

got a call today from this number and some woman that I couldnt understand came on and told me about the "affidavit" that was being filed for the lawsuit against me and asked if I had information on it.  After telling her I couldnt understand a word she was saying, she repeated it in the same thick accent only louder.  I told her I had no idea about any lawsuit so she told me to hold so I could talk to a lawyer.  After being connected I was told by a person with a same thick accent that I was being sued for something. I couldnt understand what he was saying either so I let him finish his speech and at the end he asked if I had any questions and I replied "no".  He asked again and I again said "no" then he proceeded to argue with me because I didn't have any questions.  I told him that I had no idea what he was talking about, had never gotten any loan, so therefore I had no questions.  He continued to argue with me and inform me that I would be picked up from work and taken to jail tomorrow and have to stay until Tuesday.  I told him "ok".  He then proceeded to tell me that by me not asking any questions, it means that I did what I did on purpose.  I stated again that I don't know what he's talking about and was again threatened with jail tomorrow morning before he hung up.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

Got a call today 2/16/2012 on cell phone and office number.  These people spoke like they had rocks in their mouth, accused me of a transaction I'm not aware of, but did have my information ie last 4 digits of my ss#, where I worked and the name of my bank.  When I asked them to provide a date of the transaction, the amount and a copy of what they are accusing me of, he (John Schnieder) started screaming at me, I couldn't understand what he was saying ( he sounded foreign)  and said I was going to be arrested tomorrow morning and they are going to charge me up to $12,000.00.  what?  I then contacted the state's prosecuting attorneys office and called my attorney and called this company back, when I told them what I did, John was furious and said I couldn't do that and now for certain I'd be arrested.

A VERY foreign sounding person called and wanted to speak to myself or my attorney. Said that there was an investigation and that if I didn't contact them I would be arrested and "incarcerated for 4 days". It would have been easier to take him seriously if he hadn't said his name was "Charles Taylor". Hi Chuck. Like the shoes.
