Your review helped me I think. We just payed our last installment of the package price. We just want to make sure we can still go on vacation. That it isnt a scam in that there is NO vacation package at all, ya know? I asked before buying and know we will have to sit in a family friendly info session. No biggie for us. Anything else I need to know? We are planning on going to Orlando for this vacation in July 2014.

I have read all these posts and am very saddened! We decided to go ahead and pay the $398 for the vacation packages for Universal Studios & others. We want to go on vacation and this seemed like a good price. I just want to know if everything will be given as promised. We arent wanting to change anything. Can anyone help? Im worried now.

I received a call 9/26 in response to signing up for a Free Florida Vacation at a Cooking Show in Houston, TX.  Of course, I was leery when the caller (Louis Conn) explained that they "Hand Picked" who to invite for this vacation give away.  The trip valued at $3000 begins in Orlando (no airfare included) for 6 days and 5 nights at a resort hotel (he mentioned Fountains Resorts).  Room tax, phone and meals were not included.  It also included a 7 day pass to Universal Studios and the 2nd vacation included 3 days and 2 nights to one of 25 places.  The cost is $249 for the 1st and $249 for the 2nd person and the 3rd and 4th person go free.  He kept asking me the typical sales pitch question...how does that sound to you?  I told him I would have to read the fine print.  Then he said to hold so he could connect me with registration at which time another man came on saying he was the caller's manager and he listened to the recorded phone call and determined that since I was less than enthusiastic (after I told him I wanted to read the fine print), he would award the trip to another person who was more excited about going.  Then he hung up.   I'm glad I didn't get suckered into their hard sale tactics.

Caller refuses to identify himself, continues to call despite repeated requests that the calls stop.  Just filed complaint with do not call registry and will continue to file complaints with all other agencies I can think of.  Calls have continued for a year now.  I've had enough.

Just started getting these calls to both my home and cell phones, but haven't answered.  Still wondering how they have both of my numbers.  Unfortunately regardless of what we want there are so many people/businesses that sell your info.  Just have to pay attention to everything you do.

We ended up getting a refund.  We typed up a letter stating how we were mis led and our refund came within a week of the company receiving the letter.

American Getaways is crock of s*** that wont stop calling my house.  Rude people with a phone and no product.  Yet another government failure to clamp down on an obvious scam being perpetuated by unscrupulous dbags.

All right, so here is the deal with this promotion.  My wife and I got the call and it was indeed a high pressure sale pitch.  We spoke with Kevin Scheidel who said he was the "Director of Promotions for Universal Studios".  He wouldn't give us time to discuss it and call back, said we had one chance for the deal.  He also said that there were three names drawn from the contest I entered at the Toy's for Tots Motorcycle Ride.  The first two couples took the deal and they were trying to close out the Toy Ride contest with me.  The funny part there is I know four people that signed up and they all got a call from this company some didn't answer the phone.

So, we signed up for the trip and paid the discounted price which we didn't have a problem with because of the great deal that was being offered.  I'll go ahead and say here that I went into this knowing that I was going to be offered a time share when I got there and that I was going to have to sit through another sales pitch.  That being said, my wife and I took the deal under these terms...
1.  $199.00 per person ($398.00 total)  this was to avoid having to pay taxes on the trip valued at $5500.00.
2.  Six nights five days at a four star hotel in the Orlando area.
3.  Hopper passes to 5 parks (he told us Disney as well which I found funny because why would Universal Studios give passes to Disney Parks. "but of course we do want you to visit our parks" he said.
4.  A second trip, three night two day trip to one of 25 locations.
5.  18 months to take the first Orlando vacation, but if for some reason we were not able to go in the first 18 months it would automatically extend for 18 more months.

The package we received in the mail was very similar to the items listed above but with a few changes.  The hopper passes were 5 days to the 2 universal parks (Universal and Islands of Adventure).  When my wife called to ask a couple of questions, namely about the 18 months and extensions, she was told that the trip is good for 18 months and if you want to extend it you can do so in six month intervals at an expense of about $100.00 for each extension.  That was the deal breaker for us because we have two small children that we wanted to take but are not quite ready for a theme park.  We were already planning to go three years from Jan 2010 but not after hearing of the cost to extend.  The second trip is claimed after you attend the "tour" (time share pitch) on the Orlando Vacation.  You apparently get a certificate that you have to fill out and send in within 20 days of receiving to claim the bounus trip.

So, we decided to take the deal mainly because of the 18 month automatic extension which was misrepresented to us by Scheidel.  But wait, that's not fair...maybe it's my fault for not asking how much the automatic extension would cost.  Silly me.  The hopper passes weren't even a deal breaker.  Scheidel told us that when he turned on the recording to explain the package and asks us if we had stayed at a blue green resort in the last year we had to say no or the deal was invalid and that he was going to say we had 18 months to take the trip but we had his word that it would automatically extend another 18 months.  He also told us not to ask any questions during the recorded portion because we would loose the whole deal....weird huh?  We thought so.

All in all, if you get the call and go into it knowing there will probably be a time share pitch it's still not a bad deal.  But as always be vigilant when asking questions and if they won't let you  think about it and call back there is probably a reason for that.  Oh yeah, and you only have thirty days to get a refund.  My wife and I are still considering going and dropping the kids with Grandma but probably won't.  We will probably wait to the kids are old enough and then go with or without a deal like this.  We are not bitter...just feel that there were too many misrepresentations.  And, it's simply a guess, but I don't think Scheidel is "Director of Promotions for Universal Studios".  He might be directing people to buy Universal Studios vacation packages as a salesman on behalf of Blue Green Resorts, but like I said, that's my guess.
Hope this helps somebody.

Has anyone actually done this?  Just playing devil's advocate here but sounds like people calling it a scam didn't take the offer.  Did you get your refund from the credit card co. or did your package arrive from the promotion?

My wife got a call from "Universal Studios" promo dept saying we won a free 5 day vacation all we need to do is pay the taxes. We decide to go ahead with it and pay the taxes (Don't ask why it said SCAM all over it). After getting off the phone I started to do some research and found that it most likely was a scam. So I called Kevin Scheidel back and someone told me he was busy and would no be able to talk to me. They switched me over to Mike Portman and he told me it was NON-Refundable I told him when I spoke with Kevin Sceidel he said we had 30 days to cancel. We went back and forth about no being able to get a refund. It?s my word against Kevins. I told him if he couldn't give me a refund I wanted to talk to someone who could. He told me he was GOD there and there was no one else I could talk with and he hung up on me. I called my credit card company and placed a dispute on the charge and also filed a complaint with the BBB. I?m hoping I can get a refund or I?m out $398. The email address I received my confirmation # from was Promotions Desk americangetaway2@comcast.net. There address comes up as 954 W Hallandale Beach BlvdHallandale Beach,FL33009 The 800 number they gave me to call back was 800-805-5778. Also they mentioned something about bluegreen travel PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!!

I got a call from this number at 8:30pm on a Sunday night and I told them to never call this late and to never call again because my son was sleeping. I hung up. A minute later they had the gall to call me back and say, "Mam, you hung up so quickly I didn't get to congratulate you. Do you remember attending the Boston Baby Expo, I said yes like 2 years ago." Then he tried to tell me I stopped by their table and entered to win a trip and that I won a trip to Universal Studios, blah blah blah. I said something and then hung up again. Totally a scam!
