Our office received a similar message from a woman named Chantall. She wanted to feature us on the Eye on American series and asked that we call 954-461-2100 ext. 2037 to speak with their associate producer. Sounded very fishy to us - since the "feature story" she mentioned wouldn't even be that applicable for us.

Man, you guys were right.  These guys are slimy.  I'm glad this thread exists.  I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt since they claimed to want to do a news segment on the subject we specialize in and did not indicate that there would be an financial component to this when finished.  I'm really starting to build up some vitriol for these companies that claim to be legitimate news agencies but are just trying to sell custom videos.  It's a waste of everyone's time.  It would be much nicer if they would answer questions more directly and be more upfront.

To Dave's credit though, when I called him to ask a direct question about whether he was going to ask us for money, he said "yes, there would be a financial component." I told him we're not interested and he amiably said ok that they'll go in a different direction. I appreciate the candor in the end, but really wish I could get the other hours back from the time I wasted until this point.  Watch out everyone.

Just got a call from Dan Marin claiming to be one of the producers of "The Art of Living" with Marilu Henner.  Seems like they may have gotten a cease and desist from CBS on using Greg Gumble and Eye on America, and are moving on to other celebrity names to drop...

Just wanted to add this update to the list.

Dave Corsair contacted us last week with a similar story to others on here. He wanted to do a piece on us for Inside Business Report with Fred Thompson (ibreport.com). If you visit this site in Google Chrome, it warns you that the site contains malicious content. There is also no contact information on the site, and its pretty "cheesy".

After the initial conversation with our CEO (on Friday I believe), Dave called our office repeatedly on Monday to try to reach the CFO and/or CEO. After that was unsuccessful, his "assistant" Andrea Miller made contact via email to set a time for a conference call. After the repeated phone calls that day, we were more suspicious (obviously the website was a little strange and the $19,700 for the production costs was weird as well), I did a search and found this site.

Thank goodness it didn't go any further! We are considering contacting the FBI about this.

The President of my firm passed on an email and instructed me to research the company called "US Media Television Inc" with Fred Thompson. I began by looking for Lacey Gubenko and Anne Kole on facebook and linkd - the names attached to the original e-mail; no such luck.

After a while I landed on this site. I can't find anything other than one firm that has used their services and produced a Press Release: The Spy Place.

Anyone else hear from these guys?

Wow, I got a call from Nicole at Eye on America to arrange an interview with Bill Blount. Since I hadn't heard of the show I asked her what channel it was. She claimed to be the "Assistant to the Executive Producer" I figured she would know where their show aired. When she gave me an evasive answer, I decided to Google the information I had and found only this website with any real info on their show "The Economic Report." They are supposed to call me in 7 minutes! Guess they won't be getting an interview today!

I got the call:  Neal Richmond, producer The Economic Report TV magazine (phone 954-312-0484, x2041), giving me the heavy v-mail message implying I had been ignoring his sweet assistant who had called previously, Lindset Richardson (x2010) and saying that they were going to do this show with the bext candidate and I had to call back today or tomorrow with definite interest, because they had to begin production.  I've had calls from types like these guys in the paste.  Trust me:  avoid at all costs. This sounds rotten to the core.

Folks, this is a "vanity press" media company. The sales reps play on the ego of the company owner or president, getting him to think that they are "quite interested in what your company is doing" blah blah. They will publish whatever you want as long as fits their topic and you pay the production costs. Some company's production values are better than others. IF your segment gets shown, it's usually on a local cable station at 2:00am or maybe on an airplane during those segments where everyone is asleep.

IF the quality of the segment is good, sometimes you can use the piece as a video brochure of your company, perhaps giving it out on a CD or posting on your website. However, you may be able to get this done cheaper through a local production company. You probably couldn't afford Gumbel, though.

Our company too was contacted by numerous individuals claiming to be from "The Economic Report" with Greg Gumbel and that they had programs on CNN, Fox etc.  They have a website:  theeconomicreport.com.  Their fee was $19,700 US.  Since we realized this was a scam and refused to continue, they have got a collection agencies and lawyers calling us now.  What a nightmare!  This has got to be stopped!

Our Agency was contacted by Dave Corsair with a pitch for airtime on a show called, "The Economic Report."
Of course the catch was a $19,700 fee for a 5 minute segment.  He dropped Greg Gimble's name.
Just curious if you did business with this guy or if his company is a scam.
Many thanks,

Well - its about a 50-50 deal. I went through with second call, we do environmental information and have been used as a 'source' in the past although not at a national level.  So I bought into the fact that they want some information from us for a segment.  After a full hour of disussion on the subject they droped the bomb... we too would need to be invested in the production of the piece - to the tune of $19,700 and the segment will be aired 20x once on National TV - Once on CNN Headline News and 18 more times regionally. Good deal if thats what you are looking for but our little group is not placed to need that type of exposure.  She waisted a full hour of my day.  If she had been forthright at the begining we would both be further ahead. The feigning of a news-only segment looking for a source - at the beining makes them seem less than legit.

Our company is paying a settlement to a collection agency of Platinum Television for approximately $3,000.  They claimed to be "Eye On America" and we didn't know they were actually Platinum Television until AFTER we signed a contract.  Had we paid them the $19,700 they asked for, we might have ended up with a decent video to run on our own Web Site or at trade shows but I doubt it would be worth $19,700.  Anyway, I'm just mad that they used deceptive techniques and false claims to get us to sign a contract and that we found out too late what we had actually signed up for.

I received a similar call today from a guy claiming to be from Eye on America and wanting to do a feature with our company asking questions about its owners....  I was suspicious after receiving the call and reported it to our VP.  I have since done my research on the place AND the caller ID #.  This is at at the least a company playing on the CBS nightly news feature's name and MISREPRESENTING ITSELF.  THERE IS NEVER A FEE for a CBS feature for Eye on America....   I am reporting this call to CBS (helps to have connections in NYC at CBS studio), they can take it from there.

Ad Marketing Companies Agree to Pay $100,000 Restitution, Alter Practices

~ Agreement resolves allegations companies misrepresented corporate relationships ~

TALLAHASSEE, FL ? Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced a settlement agreement which mandates that a media marketing and advertising group may no longer misrepresent their corporate associations. The companies must accurately disclose to clients what they can expect in terms of media coverage and airing of their advertisements.

Platinum Television Group, Inc., and New Line Media Solutions, Inc. produced infomercial-style television shows which were aired on national and regional television networks. Potential clients nationwide were solicited by ?creative directors,? who were actually salespeople that persuaded businesses to sign contracts with the companies. For a licensing fee of approximately $20,000, the businesses were told that a short five-to-seven minute advertisement featuring the business would be produced and inserted into Platinum?s programming. The businesses were usually told that the show would air on both national and regional broadcast networks.

An investigation by the Attorney General?s Economic Crimes Division determined that the companies often misrepresented sponsorships by national companies such as Microsoft and Home Depot, claiming these sponsorships paid for the production and airing of the subject programs. Platinum and New Line also falsely announced the participation of ?Advisory Boards? consisting of members from institutions such as MIT and Harvard?s Business School. The companies fraudulently implied that clients would be receiving multiple national airings of their spots when this was a highly inaccurate representation of the actual media coverage anticipated.

Under the agreement signed with the Attorney General?s Office, Platinum and New Line are prohibited from having their salespersons identify themselves as ?creative directors? or imply that they are responsible for the creative content of any television show or production. The companies cannot represent themselves as national news, cable or broadcast network nor claim they are associated with any such network. Additionally, Platinum and New Line must refrain from announcing the existence of ?Advisory Boards? unless the boards actually exist and provide input and advice on a continuing basis. They must also specifically disclose to potential clients the exact number of national airings the client?s feature advertisement will receive, the approximate time the spots will be aired, and the networks which will carry the shows.

In addition to altering their business practices, Platinum and New Line must pay $100,000 in restitution to current clients with existing complaints and must make an additional $75,000 available to resolve consumer complaints filed within 30 days of the agreement date. The companies will also reimburse the state?s cost of the investigation.

A copy of the agreement with Platinum and New Line is available here.

My name is Doug Scott.  I am the CEO and Executive Producer for Platinum Television Group and Eye On America, Inc.  Both of these companies are incorporated in the state of Florida, and also have D/B/A?s.

Platinum Television Group was founded in 1997 as a full service independent media production company.  In our eleven years of business, we have produced over 4,500 segments for different companies and organizations within a variety of half-hour programming.  My company employs approximately 75 Full ?time staff members and over 30 freelance production staff working in different capacities within production.  We occupy 17,500 square feet of studio and office space and have been located at 1000 East Hillsboro, Deerfield Beach, Florida, for over 7 years.  Our team consists of producers, senior producers, managers, television writers, production coordinators, in-house award winning directors of photography, post production coordinators, editors, traffic coordinator and an in-house media buyer/specialist that negotiates airtimes on both national and regional cable networks.

The internet is a great wealth of information, yet at the same time can easily be used by disgruntled former employees, competitors or naïve individuals as an instrument for defamation, slander and corporate business attacks with great difficulty for legal remedy.  The anonymity of the internet allows parties to make baseless, false claims without fear of reprisal and/or prosecution, or without having to produce evidence to substantiate their claims.  Unfortunately, both of my companies named above have been the target of false accusations and libel attacks that I am addressing in this rebuttal.

?    We are a legitimate, long standing, financially sound organization.  We have been located at the above address for 7 years and would welcome anyone to come visit us and tour the studios and office.(http://www.watcheoa.com/videopromo/studiotour/studiotour.htm)  We are open for business Monday-Thursday from 8:00AM-5:30PM EST, and on Friday from 8:00 AM-3:00PM EST.
?    As an independent media production company we are responsible for producing our own programming and purchasing airtime across different cable networks both nationally and regionally.  Because we buy our own blocks of airtime from different cable networks, we do guarantee our airings run as scheduled.
?    As previously stated, we have produced over 4500 segments of high quality educational programming and have an impressive list of business references across the globe that are freely provided upon request.  THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ENTRY ON ANY OF THESE SITES FROM ACTUAL GUESTS OF OURS.
?    Our websites are comprehensive and can be viewed by going to watchplatinum.com or watcheoa.com.  We regularly add new information to our sites to keep our viewers updated.
?    Eye On America:  This show is hosted by Greg Gumbel (not Bryant nor have we ever claimed it to be Bryant).  Mr. Gumbel shot in-studio with our organization on October 21, 2007.  The themes to be highlighted on Eye On America had already been planned.  We then filmed all of Greg Gumbel?s lines for all of our upcoming programming in advance.  We continue to have a good working relationship with Greg Gumbel with other projects planned on the horizon.
?    Greg Gumbel has had a long and distinguished career working with several major broadcasting companies.  Currently, he is an NFL play-by-play announcer for CBS.  However, the work he does for Eye On America is separate and distinct and has absolutely no affiliation with CBS, nor have we ever claimed that we distribute our program on CBS.
?    Before actual taping with Greg Gumbel our corporate attorneys did a search on the name, ?Eye On America.?  It was found to be available and not under copyright by any party.  We filed for trademark rights with the US Patent & Trademark office and it is currently pending.
?    Once again, we are considered educational/informative programming.  We do not claim to be the news, nor do we claim to be a non-profit or charitable institution.  We are a business entity that produces segments and does charge a scheduling fee in which our feature guests are then granted the licensing rights to their segment for the purpose of re-broadcasting and re-purposing.  This lends itself to a tremendous amount of corporate branding and imaging, from television to DVDs to the internet.
?    This fee is not unlike programming that is ?sponsored by? companies,  nor is it unlike companies that pay for product placement on television, in films and at sporting events.
?        Our corporate attorneys are currently pursuing legal action against website domains that support this type of defamation/slander, as well as private parties who knowingly are falsely accusing our organizations for their own personal grudges or professional benefit.
?    If you have any questions on this matter, would like to make arrangements to tour our studios, or speak to me directly; you can reach me at 954-461-2001.
?    If your company is undergoing similar experiences, please feel free to contact us for an open and frank dialogue regarding this issue.

If you were listening to whomever called you or looked at any of the documentation that you received, you would see that they make it clear that there is NO AFFILIATION with CBS or CBS' Eye on America, and that this organization currently has a copyright pending since it was available and CBS had not filed. This was made very clear to me at the time that I received all of the materials as well as on the original conversation.  Looks like you MISunderstood or have nothing better to do with your time.  CBS has not even used an Eye on America segment for over two years, as well as the only thing that closely resembles it is "Eye on American" which is shown in flight on American Airlines. In addition to working for CBS Sports, Greg Gumbel is also working with this organization on this show.  WHY DON'T YOU CHECK OUT THE FACTS BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY FURTHER ASSERTIONS! It seems to me that you only heard what you wanted to hear and that you have way too much time on your hands---what does your company do?

Comment to baco99 - I already contacted CBS in December and posted their reply a couple of weeks ago.  Here's what they had to say:

"I have forwarded your correspondence to our legal department.  In the meantime, please be advised that EYE ON AMERICA is a copyrighted feature of the CBS EVENING NEWS.  CBS does not request fees or monies from subjects of interviews or profiles.  Greg Gumbel is currently a commentator for CBS Sports' NFL games."

I think this speaks for itself.

I received a call today from Anthony Allen who said I would be getting more information from his assistant Roxanne Phoenix.  He never mentioned anything about fees, but directed me to the watcheoa.com web site.  I instantly noticed that the web site was assembled hap-hazardly. I have emailed CBS customer relations to see if they have any knowledge of this group using the "Eye on America" brand for their own gain.  Will follow-up when I know more.
