I also got a message to call Brightstar at (806) 686-0802.  I used to teach in S FL years ago, but didn't remember opening an account. A quick search led me here.  Glad to know it's a scam.

recently received a text message that my card was locked and to call a 1-806-686-0802..do not call, knew it was a fraud when they ask for security number. Call you own personal bank before you reply to such claims.

I am located in South Florida. I have recieved 4 text message saying my credit card has been locked down. The messages are from "Brightstar". I have no credit card that has "4016" as its 1st 4 #'s . This, I believe to be a phishing attempt.

received same message from 313-408-2910. tried calling number and request operator or cus service rep, but no option. just wanted cc info. it's a scam

Reporting a phishing scheme by this number (954) 510-2277. Received a text indicating that my Brightstar CARD starting with 4016 has been locked and to contact this number directly. Don't have one of these cards or numbers.

This is a big phishing scheme. I received the text and ignored it.

Is it a legit?

My husband and myself both got that same message today.  Do not return the call, Haitian Mafia/Gang.

Both my husband and i received the same text message about our card starting 4016** being locked but they are also sending it using 954-510-2266. we simply ignored it

I received same message at about 3pm today.  Brightstar CU is a Credit Union for teachers.

Security Alert from BrightStar:

Recently, some residents in south Florida have received calls and text messages asking for their debit or credit card numbers.  The message usually asks the recipient to call a phone number to ?activate? or ?verify? their debit or credit card.  Some of these messages have mentioned the names of credit unions, including BrightStar.

BrightStar did not send these messages. The messages are an attempt at fraud called "phishing," which means someone tried to trick people into providing their account information. Some of BrightStar?s members received these messages (as well as non-members.)

No BrightStar data has been compromised. Member account information is safe and secure. The only connection to the Credit Union is that some of the messages mention our name.

If you receive a message like this, ignore it. Do not call the phone number in the message nor reply to the message in any way. Never provide your account information to someone unless you know who it is. BrightStar will NEVER send you a text message or email asking you to verify your account information.

If you mistakenly provide your account information to a suspected fraudster, or if you suspect fraudulent activity on your account, please contact the Credit Union at 954-486-2728.

Protect yourself.  Don?t get caught phishing.

I received a text from this number: 954-510-2277. Seems like a scam.

Same here from my phone to my phone with the same credit card ending in 4016 and to call that number. I am reporting it to the fraud department of my cell phone company!

thxs cuz I just got the message and I was wondering what the heck did someone steal my info cuz i never opened an account with Brightstar....so now I noe at least I'm not the only one

Got the same TXT message, right after I used my card at CVS and Hess gas station....I am in FL and there is a BrightStar Credit Union, but not with that tel number. Some kind of scam going on.

Received a text message from this number advising me that my Brightstar CU Card starting in 4016 has been locked and to contact them at this number.  I don't know who Brightstar is and I certainly do not have a card starting with the four numbers they listed.  I think this is a fishing message.  Anyone else get this message?
