I got a call from "Marty Michaels" today from 954-644-8900, asking me to confirm my social security number and telling me I owed money on a payday loan I never got using a bank account I never had. I told him I don't confirm my social security number to anyone since I am not an idiot. He accused me of talking in circles and said he would send a process server to my home. I told him that was fine that he need to do what he needed to do. These guys are creepy!

Today his name is Marty. If my daughter does not pay this instant he will see her in court on July 8th. Yeah, ok, sure he will. It's called verification a**hole. Without it you don't have a chance in hell of getting a dime. Also said the debt was from 2006. Well in 06 she was not even 18 so either your a fraud, or the so called contract was made with a minor and she would not have been of legal age to sign. Sit on it and twist.

I have been receiving these call from various "officers" and "agents" for over a year myself. They are all frauds.  I have taken on line payday loans in the past, however, by law, they have to go thru the proper chain of command to get the money back.. I they cannot and will not send you proof in writing, then it is a fraud.  These people get your information off of the interent and scare you into paying them.  DON"T DO IT!!!  They cannot come after you. The worse thing that can happen if it is a legit debit is garnish your wages and they have to have court documents to do so.  Don't return their calls, and don't give them the time of day.  I actually conducted my own experiment.  I had not had a payday loan for over two years and I went on line and started applying for some (not to take them out, but just to see what would happen).. Within 2 days, I was getting calls threatening to take me to jail if I didn't pay them... really??????   So my information popped up again and they start calling.
They used my supervisors name "which I made up"...  and said on my voice mail that they talked to them. Well gee...that person doesn't exsist at my job, so that is my first clue!! Don't pay these people anything.  If it is really a debt you will receive documentation through the mail.

Various folks have been calling me at my job sporadically for over a year, maybe two trying to get $90 out of me from a closed bank account for an online payday loan (Um, there are no $90 payday loans). Never being able to provide me with ANY type of proof, qualifying information or even the name of the payday loan co about "my account"-- the call usually ended up with me yelling at them and hanging up on them or them hanging up on me. The guy on my VM (I found out later he called serval offices at my job giving false information) was a little more "effective" said he would even reduce the amout to $50... before the judgement went into effect on Monday, its Friday. "Officer" Eric Muller, using the email of Armando Latorre, he actually had me wonder if I did have an old payday loan (I don't. I called my old bank. They said that even if I had closed my account they would have paid the eCheck with the payday loan folks and I would have owed the bank money NOT the payday loan folks. They also said they never heard or work with Titon Group). Since there was no way in heck I was giving my credit card info, for which he said I was "being stubborn" and "paranoid," um DUH! He, Eric? Armando?, suggested the prepaid credit card, I actually thought about getting it, my coworker wouldn't allow it believing this to be a scam, and found this site... Thank you everyone for posting your stories! Now how the heck do I get these people to stop calling me, my job??

Obviously he has changed his name because his prior name was ruined by good citizens posting here.  This "Eric" character contacted a friend of mine and refused to provide documentation from this fraudulent debt.  I'm sorry you were harassed to the point you felt you needed to give him prepaid credit card information without anything that proves you owed a debt and without any proof of payment, if applicable.  On a good note, at least it was a prepaid and not a debit or credit card he could continue to abuse via his scam to steal!
We should all complain to the BBB and our local State?s Attorney to put ?Eric? on the defense.  What a worm.

I just got a call from this company this week and he is going by a different name Officer Eric Mucller    .  He called my work and was rude to them and said he was going to come down to my work himself if they didnt put me on the phone.  So I called him and he was nice to me and worked out a plan to pay off my payday loan that i did not pay. he reduced the bill from $300 to $150. At first he said if i sisnt act on it within a week,  fraudu lent charges would take effect...... So  he also told me i can look up him on the internet and check them out with their better business burearo and gave me their rating and website. So I beleived him and gave him my prepaid walmart visa card to take out $75 for 2 months!!!IWhat did I do??????

Thank You! I appreciate the good words. Validation Request is your legal right under Federal Law. If you do not recognize the debt, or you believe you've paid it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you demanding proof. Glad I could help. Being confident and not only knowing your rights-but sometimes going head to head with people that at times might be intentionally violating the law in an effort to intimidate can be tough. Stand firm in knowing your rights, dont back down- and as I am sure you know, eventually the calls will stop. If I made calls for you or sent out a letter or two, then you have my email. Keep me posted on your progress and all the best!

Debt Collector
Let me begin by saying that as previous customers/consumers/ and as debtors, you have rights. I have been in the receivables industry for 14 years and have spent the last 2 dealing in payday loans. Unfortunately, I have seen cases where the 3-4 different collection agencies have been trying to contact a person regarding the same debt. Whenever I encounter this situation, I provide additional documentation and if the individual tells me they have paid the debt, or wont pay it- I will not pursue it any further. On certain  cases I have settled accounts with prior customers, and have called other agencies and even faxed over paid in full notices in order to assist these individuals who are being harassed by collectors who violate the law or are just unprofessional.

I find it essential to listen to a prior customer and take his/her situation in consideration. We offer hardship arrangements, settlement reductions, and payment deferments whenever necessary. I still, to this day have at least 5-7 prior customers who call me on occasion and whether its a question concerning their credit, or just another agency bothering them- I will go out of my way to give either advice or make a call for them personally. I challenge those who are posting false information about myself or my company to return the phone calls, identify yourself, and let us assist you in any way possible. The truth is I have never told someone that I will  sue them until they were broke..etc. I myself come from a humble background so I go out of my way to acommodate those individuals going thru financial hardship.

To those individuals who attend to their issues, and walk in integrity- I applaud you and we are here to help you. Bad things happen to good people, and I personally treat everyone the way I would like to be treated. Being a Christian and also having to pay bills, I understand how difficult it is in today's economy and we are here to help.

To those individuals that know they have these outstanding obligations and have their families and coworkers screening their calls and at times lying for them, you will eventually encounter a situation in which you will want to address these issues as to avoid adverse action, or just to remedy your moral obligation. Either way, I encourage you to at least address the situation with those that you owe, and just be honest-explain your situation and if you cannot get help from the representative you're speaking to, just ask to speak to someone in charge.

All the best.

Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for it, the FDCPA requires it), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER. Scammers are using bought/hacked loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

An adult male called my home acting like he was some friend or somebody I knew ... which I didn't. He asks to speak to someone who doesn't even live here and then acted quite surprised when he was told that that person didn't live here. However, this man continued to inquiry of the whereabouts as to the person he wants to talk to, I told him that I don't know. I tell him to remove my number from his list and asked him not to call back, he was still talking as I hung on the phone! Until I researched the 954-644-8900 number online, I had no clue ... hopefully, this man, AAG Claims, or whomever will not call me ever again!

Caller is AAG Claims out of Florida - called my cell, called my job - left msg at job but not on my cell with a claim number - called them back 2 find out what they wanted gave them claim # - get this one then he puts me on hold to look for the claim and he calls me back on my cell I mean what is the point of that when I called from my cell which DOES show my name/number even though when they call you no name appears just there number.  Then they don't even tell u the name of the company just a claim number like thats all legit right?   Starts out with his "client" is trying 2 collect debt which is an old debt but thats neither here nor there.  Then proceeds 2 tell me that I have until the 19th or "his client" will verify my employment blah, blah, blah - u can verify all u want but u get no $$ unless u have court order for garnishment. He did tell me that this is "one" of his clients so this 3rd party collector may have purchased various accounts whose to say.
