Even though my phone number is on the state and national Do Not Call Lists (and I file a complaint for every single call), once a week, for over a year, I receive calls from "Privacy Detector" 954-731-6358.  When I answer the phone, there is a dial tone.  Today, 4-8-2008, the calls are coming in every 2 hours.  A message starts with "credit card leasing equipment," then the line goes dead.  I do not have credit card leasing equipment.  Earlier in the day, I received a slightly longer menu, one of which was "press 2 to ignore."  I pressed 2, and the line went dead, but the calls continue.  I contacted Supra Telecom, my phone service provider, and they are just as baffled as I am.  They suggested turning Privacy Director off and see what happens.  That's where we stand now.

At long last, I have solved this mystery, at least I hope! My phone company recommended turning off the "privacy detector" feature on my phone line, which they did for me.  Today, 4/9/2008, at 12:00 PM, I received a call from 888-607-3607. After telling the first person there was no one at this phone number with the name they asked for, AND advising them of their perpetual harassing telephone calls and reporting them to the authorities, at 1:00 PM, they called AGAIN!  The first idiot said he would remove my phone number from their list.  Obviously, NOT!  However, there appears to be one inconsistency:  the name of the company.  The first one said the name was Qualified Lease Finance Group.  The second said the name of the company was Lease Finance, located in New York City.  I hope whoever sees this files the appropriate complaints with authorities, and begins a harassment campaign against these abusers.

When I answered, a voice stated:  "Bank of America".....  I think when a local number is used, it's called "spooking" (or something like that), a way to make the person called believe that the caller is in the general vicinity, when he is really very far away.....

alls received at least twice a day, but noesponse to answer.

954-731-6358 has been appearing sporatically on my caller ID for about 2 years now.  Today I was FINALLY home when an actual call came in.  When I answered I heard a garbled recording followed by a friend stating her name.  It was indeed my AT&T (BellSouth) Privacy Manager.  I accepted the call and was told by my friend it took almost 2 full minutes for her to actually reach me.  When Caller ID cannot identify the calling number (this time a cell from Aruba) the caller is requested to state their name and then the system attempts to place the call and then it has to play the recording of the caller's name to me along with my options to accept, reject, etc.  Very time consuming!  Many companies use auto dialers so imagine their auto dialer "talking" to Privacy Manger.  Two machines "talking" in different computer lingo....fiasco apparently and the calls are ringing through but the auto dialer has disconnected by the time you answer.  

My suggestion, turn off your Privacy Manager when you are home and can answer your calls.  You may be able to determine who or what company has been trying to reach you and put a stop to the calls that way.  You can turn the service off and on at your leisure.  For AT&T in Dade/Broward area dial toll free 1 888 575-6677.  Now I'm hoping to now find out where all the other calls are coming from.  Good Luck!

I have been receiving calls at my home from this phone number once a week for over a year, even though my phone number is on the state and national Do Not Call Lists.  Today, 4-8-2008, the calls are coming in every 2 hours.  For fear that the calls would continue while sleeping at night, I called my phone company to try to do something, but they are as frustrated as I am as to what's going on.  The only hint I get when I answer the phone, if not a dial tone, is something about "credit card leasing."  I do not have a business.

I just reported the same situation to my telephone company, SupraTelecom.  They have been calling my home once a week for over a year, even though I am on the state and national Do Not Call List.  Today, 4-8-2008, the calls came in every 2 hours.  I called my phone company to try to do something, but they received the same responses we did.  They are going to try to figure out what's going on.

just got off the phone with Bellsouth. this number really is theirs. you have privacy blocker. once they call in this number will show and read. the only way to get the real number is to lesson to the ad and write it down. then turn them in if you are on the do not call list.

I got two calls from this number at 2 am, one on my house phone and one on my cell phone. I could hear some faint sound in the distance like a recording but could not understand them.

I ALSO RECEIVED SEVERAL CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER ON MY HOME PHONE. LIKE THE PREVIOUS PERSON, WHEN I ANSWERED THE PHONE, NO ONE IS THERE BUT A ECORDING. I JUST CALLED THE NUMBER AND GOT A VOICE RECORDING - PRIVACY DIRECTOR - THE RECORDED MESSAGE SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT ABOUT NOT BLOCKING YOUR PHONE NUMBER, ETC, ETC., ETC.

They have called about 10 times over the last two days.  If we try to take the call, no one is there.  We have also tried pressing 2 for sales reject.  They keep calling.  Very annoying!
