I answered and nobody was there! Was the city of Ft. Lauderdale actually calling me?

This number has called me five times in the last two days. Are they debt collectors, or what?

Complete SCAM. Just spoke with AmEx who called the number themselves.  They said it wasn't one of theirs, but the recording sounded like one of their recordings.

Okay.  For all you commentators who like to sound like you know what you're talking about, here's a suggestion.  Why don't you do your homework before you go making statements that are untrue.  The toll-free number that the American Express representative gave me to call back is 100% legit and here's how I know.  I went to their website (wow - what a concept!) and did a search using the number.  In their FAQ they offer this same toll-free number to call if you're financially struggling and need to set up payment arrangements.

On Nov 20, They called our unlisted # 3 times. First time recorded message stating Urgent regarding your Am-express call 1-800. Second call that day they hung up on me.  Third time that evening was a very interesting conversation between myself and 2 men that lasted over 30 min. This is a HUGE SCAM.  They are very crafty and people are easily tricked.  They have very little info and use crafty lies and trickery to get you to pay them giving credit card info over the phone.  If you gave them this info you better call your credit card company ASAP.  Many people are behind on their payments so this is easy to trick people who are behind as I just read on this board someone fell for this con.  I caught the first guy in 5 different lies and he was very smooth trying to cover his steps,  he gave up and said I will connect you to customer service which was his roommate sitting next to him to see if he could get me to give out my credit card #.  In addition to all the lies I caught them in the secong guy asked me 3 times if I wanted to pay right now for my late account which was not late. Man # 1 still stayed on to listen to this conversation. They finally gave up and hung up on me.  I am gathering info and want to get these guys prosecuted before too many more people actually give them their card numbers. Any help would be appreciated. Received a call from this number this morning. A woman left a message on my phone, saying "this message is for (first name)..............(last name)." Literaly a five second pause...then dead space, and then a recorded message saying that themessage is from AMEX...and that there is a very important business matter that needs to be handled by the end of the day today. He leaves me an 800 number to call him back at. I called the 954 number back, and a rep picked up. Said his systems were down and to bear with him. When he gets back on, he says for me to give him my account number. I tell him there's no way...and he says, well if you're uncomfortable, call the number on the back of your card. He then hung up. Didn't really feel good about that...wouldn't trust them if you get the same call.

Received a call from 1-954-804-0329 today.  They didn't say anything.  Caller ID said Ft. Lauderdale.  I hung up after a few seconds of nothing being said.

I've got a cal from them and they left a message on my voicemail. Looked as a scam so I called a real AmEx and they said that it is their number the 800-678-0738. The customer service rep said that he 100% positive that 800-678-0738 is their number. So, just call back on the muber listed on AMEX website to stay safe.

954-804-0329 called at 12:05 7/28/2008 I was told to call an 800 number in a message that was very unprofessional.  Customer rep was very rude and stated that they were with AMEX, but would not remove my number from there records, because I did not have specific info on an account.  Don't know if this is a scam, but it is very fishy.

SORRY... this is a scam.  The caller states to call back at 800-678-0738 with the AmEx credit card number.  This 800 number has been identified as being associated with a scam to collect credit card numbers

Call from American Express. Legitimate call; I'm actually really behind on paying them.
