The federal government sells subscriptions for around $15,000 a year for legitimate telemarketers to cold call people not on the DNC. It all about cash flow. Period. They have to make enough money to support the court costs, attorney fees, etc. to justify prosecution.

These clowns have been prosecuted once by the FTC. Here's the link: http://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/cases-proceedi ... -management-llc

Ask to speak to Willy Plancher or  Valbona Toska. They started this and have been banned from EVER entering into any telemarketing for life. Implicating them will cost them big if they are involved.

Here is a link to the final court document. Apparently, they didn't learn their lesson. http://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/docume ... uccessorder.pdf

Agreed with defining the word legitimate.  If a telemarketer is calling you, and you are on the DNC, then they are illegitimate.

And then, they can be ignored, or toyed with.

Whatever you do, DON'T give them your credit card number. These are criminals,
they aren't going to care about the 'Do Not Call' list. If you want to waste their
time, give them a false name and address (slowly) then insult them and their
ancestors back to cave men.....(don't threaten)....

>> The Do Not Call List is a joke.  Waste of Taxpayer Money.   <<

Incorrect.
However, it is evident that your understanding of the DNC list is sadly lacking.

The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities and companies with preexisting business relationships, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list  is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

Here is your reading assignment:

Now, the quiz:
* Do you understand the meaning of the word "legitimate"?

THE BAD NEWS: Card Services calls aren't going to stop anytime soon.

THE GOOD NEWS: You can retaliate, reduce the misery, and even have some fun.

RETALIATE:

Waste these turkeys' time. Keep them on the line by acting like an interested prospect. Give them bogus data, including a combination of two different credit card numbers, scrambled Social Security digits, and a modified ZIP Code. Important: provide a credit card company's real 800 number.

After they call the credit card company, you can give them the same credit card info as before with two of the numbers transposed, thus causing them to make a second verification call. Or you can respond, "Guess what ... H-O-O-N-N-K-K [from a $6 air horn] you've been PRANKED! Call back tomorrow for more bullshot." Now they're the butt of your joke.

REDUCE THE MISERY:

Landlines. Enroll for the free service at nomorobo.com. Simultaneous ringing, a free feature many providers offer, enables nomorobo to receive, answer and, after one ring, automatically hang up on nuisance telephone numbers.

Cell phones. Block the number, an option that becomes available on the iPhone if you click on the "i" on the right in the list of recent calls and scroll to the bottom. Unfortunately, Card Services will keep calling from new spoofed numbers, which eventually should motivate you to retaliate.

HAVE FUN:

Turning the tables on the perpetrators with mischievous deception and the news they've been duped provides instantaneous vigilante satisfaction. Plus you serve your fellow call recipients by slowing down this evil operation's efforts to defraud them.

Yet another Account Services/Card Services/Cardholder Services scam.  The prerecorded message says they're calling in regards to your Bank of America, Chase, Capital One, or other Visa or MasterCard credit card account.  They offer to reduce your interest rate if you owe at least $1,500.  Today, I politely asked how to get my number removed, as they call at least 7 times per day.  The guy who answered the line said "I don't know, I can make it 10," and he then hung up.

These people have no remorse over calling the same numbers over and over.  The technology that they're using is such that it actually costs them money to remove you from their mailing list.  If I ever find these people, I will find a way to make them pay.

Keep getting calls from this number (907) 562-9354 ----- Not going to answer it, due to all the scams out there I've gotten in the new habit of "If I don't recognize your number, I will not answer the call and I will not return the call"
