Don't answer it. I have caller ID and I write down the numbers and keep them by my phone so I can choose to pick up or not. It's 99% done on Lan Lines.

I used too get this call, but after many days of ignoring it, they quit.

I believe we receive these calls due to fradulent credit card information using our phone number and address.  We have recieved calls from bill collectors for a person whom we don't know, never heard of, and NEVER lived at our address.

We receive daily calls from 800 service numbers and "unknown".  I do not answer to give them the satisfaction of knowing they have a working number.    

Thank you to kwitcherbellyakin for all of the valuable information! Filing a complaint seems to be the only way to accomplish shutting them down.

Many of these calls are coming from Costa Rica and India and they are using spoofed (false) numbers, which in itself is illegal. They do cold calling for or sell the leads to numerous companies in this country and they know that what they are doing is illegal. Tomorrow this same number may be selling Cruises, Timeshares or Security Systems but if you follow the money it usually ends up in the hands of an American LLC.
These scum are making money by sending their bogus Caller ID information to your phone company. Telephone numbers are Calling Name (CNAM) provisioned and stored in a special database accessible to other telecom utilities.  This means that for any outbound call that transmits a special  code corresponding to one of their phone numbers, these criminals collect a fee for transmitting the caller ID information to the Local Exchange Carrier receiving the call.  When you see a  phone number in your caller ID (along with some name like Card Services), your phone company has to reimburse the caller for downloading that info from the database where it?s stored.
These fees are typically fractions of a cent per call however when these fees are aggregated across tens of millions of outbound calls per week, it amounts to significant money.  Huge volumes of unsolicited telemarketing calls can drive significant revenue into the pockets of these scum sucking criminals. In return your phone company charges you a fee (it may be hidden or $5 to $15 on your phone bill).  Since they only pay out a small portion of this fee you can see why your phone company allows this to continue.
If someone makes the mistake of answering the phone and falling for their con then it is just icing on the cake for them. These people are the lowest form of filth on this planet.

The criminals behind this operation aren't going to pay attention to you asking to be removed from their list. Their calls cost them nothing and they can make a million of them a day so they have no intention of ever removing someone. When you press a key to talk to them all that is accomplished is to verify that they have a working number.
Unfortunately blowing an air horn or whistle doesn't work either. Their headset have noise dampeners plus they are expecting it. However with that said if it makes you feel better then by all means give it a shot.

Robocalls are illegal unless you have given them prior permission in writing (not worded into some small print contract from a 3rd party) and are absolutely illegal to a cell phone.  The Telephone Consumer Protection Act permits individuals who have received certain unlawful telemarketing, such as junk faxes or telemarketing calls, to sue the violator in state courts where they may be awarded up to $1500 for each violation.

Proof that current laws mean nothing to these scum suckers. Civil action by the FTC against such criminals is totally ineffective. These criminals need to be charged with Federal Felonies and subjected to significant jail time. All of those involved know that they are violating FTC regulations. The FTC levies huge fines, then rescinds them based on inability to pay. The FTC settles for the minimal cash on hand, and enjoins them from future telemarketing. They have been calling me since May.  They use different phone numbers. This is the third number I've seen them use.  Apparently they have no regard for the DNC list.  They are rude and sarcastic before they HANG UP on me.  I've reported them to the DNC site but keep getting calls anyway.  Guess I will just keep adding their number(s) to my reject list.

Got a phone call today (9/29/12) at 8:39 a.m. same telemarketer message with no opportunity to speak to someone to get off their call list.  Also am on the DNC list.  Filed a complaint with the FTC as this is the 3rd time.

It was the usual recorded message offering to lower my interest rate on my credit cards.

It was no different than dozens of similar calls I have gotten in the past.

As per usual, I reported the call on the donotcall.gov web site, but I also have contacted my financial institution.  However, I have lost all confidence that reporting such calls does any good at all.

As per usual, I do not talk to their friendly customer service agent.

It seems that with the right technology, it would be possible to trace such calls and to shut down these operations.  If we can send a sophisticated rover to Mars, it seems that we can trace such calls, but for some reason, we are not.

The same thing happened to me!  This is after finally getting them to stop calling my home, they started calling my cell phone.  I asked to be added to their do not call list several times and just now, when I got yet another call, I pressed 1 to speak to one of their "friendly agents", and when I told him why I was calling, he hung up on me.  I don't understand how they can be allowed to do this?  My cell phone is on a Do Not Call list!!

We are on DNC list. Don't want these people soliciting. I tried to talk with an agent by pressing one so I could tell them not to call us, but the line went dead. The computer message said it was to lower your credit card rates.

Robo dial

I called in with my own phone system (Comes up as out of area with no phone # information for anyone else) since it's a PBX I'm just in the process of setting up.  Anyway the automated recording instructs anyone to remove the blocking features before calling in again.

Calling again with the phone they rang yielded an opt-out system by pressing 1.  I have no idea if the opt-out even works.  Sounds all very fishy especially since the phone they contacted is supposedly on the do not call list.

Believe-it-or-not, when I first looked at the Caller ID number, it looked like it read 911-213-1839! Well, it is nice to get the matter of the correct area code out of the way.
