I've been screwing around with microtek. I call them disguising my caller ID multiple times a day. I act dumb, curse, and anything else to get a good laugh. It's great. If you get any further calls from them, put their caller IDs on here so I can call them and mess with them.

I live in Ventura, CA and received a call from MicroTec telling me my computer is going to crash any minute. He told me to go on my computer click on Start, select All programs, Accessories, and then Command Prompt. Well then I knew that something just wasn't right. He also said that somebody is trying to hack into my computer and he wanted to protect me. I asked how do I know that it is not you trying to hack into my computer and his answer was why would I be calling you if I would try to hack into your computer. Well we know the answer to that. I tried calling 971-217-9510 from my home phone number and couldn't get through., but I was able to dial it from my cell phone and same person answered the phone but then hang up on me. What a scam!!!!!

This "Telemarketing Scam" is very, very good!!!! They provide web addresses that really exist, i.e. Microtech, is a real internet consulting company, Microtek, makes scanners and other products, even the [support at microtech term can be Googled and it displays as Microtech Support, however the real URL lists Microtek with the e - k ending at the end, not tech.
As with an earlier post, they do have all the correct information about your computer, software, etc........really scarey!!!...............They want to "SCAM" you out of $$$$ from $50 - $199, then offer a special for "Only" $130 for 3 years of free support anytime over the term..................Not Happening!!

Got the same call.  Said his name was John Taylor - Indian accent with a generic name.  Thought it was outsourcing until I asked a question or two and I knew it was a scam.  Had fun with him, got his number and hung up.  We get scam calls all the time and, for fun, we like to harass them.  He hasn't called bad unfortunately.

They don't have your IP address, they want you to open your PC by going to their website which is not a so-called website it's just a program setup to latch onto your computer when you open the site (it's like being connected to their network, the administrator can open all your files once you do this)

Got a call from a blocked number, the Indian guy said he was calling from Windows, I said who makes Windows? He said Microtek.  He said I had multiple errors on my computer, etc, I asked which computer and he said the HP.  He wasn't guessing, he had some info, however, he was probably from a company that Microsoft has cut loose as a partner for doing this--but too late because they have all our info from Microsoft already. (I found a couple articles about this on the net).  I asked for a number to call him back and got 971 217-9510.  Obviously, this is a scam.

I just call the same call today . He said his name was David Spencer.
That his phone number was 971-217-9510 if I wanted to call back to verify.
He gave me some bogus MS license number.
He said he was authorized by MS to call me.
He said he was calling from Oregon.
I asked him where he got my phone number and he said from the IRS!
I told him I didn't believe him, thought it was a scam and not to call me again and hung up.
His accent was possibly British and he used zed instead of z

Got the same phone call yesterday from Microtech. The guy, David Corner, who is also from india took me to the different steps and then asked me to pay $149 to protect my PC. I am glad that I asked him to think about it and call later. I then searched for his phone number and got here. He got my windows ID though, hope this is will not do me bad.

My mother just called by a "Patrick" today wanting to talk to her about her computer that was evidently running a lot of viruses. She told them my husband works with computers so he would take of it. She did ask for his phone number though which was this 971-217-9510 number. The funny thing is she got call from a similar company yesterday called Micro PC Help. And they told her the same thing. And that if she went to their website they would fix it for her. She was leery so she told them she told them she had a son in law that was a computer tech and he'd look into it. And she called me right after she hung up on them. I researched the company name and found a ton of articles about this particular scam. And when I googled this number from today this site came up and a lot of articles about different scams going on. So yeah. Total scam. And yeah it has been around a while but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying.

I've been called by this guy twice in the past week, wanting me to mess with my operating system. When I said I was on the Do Not Call List, he argued with me and said I wasn't. I've meanwhile verified the I am on the list still. I smelled a scam immediately. I hope someone is checking into this guy. When I asked why he was spying on my computer, he conveniently got silent. When I asked for his phone number, he was evasive, but eventually gave me this Oregon phone number (his heavy accent and the bad connection tells me he was actually probably in India or one of Arab nations). I am even more suspicious because it appears he has his phone number blocked from being detected. WATCH OUT FOR THIS GUY!!!!!!!!

I received a call a couple of days ago from "edward" with the same thing, telling me my computer was going to crash. How do they have our IP address? I didn't go on to even confirm this, my concern is we recently signed up for a telephone through TimeWarner a week ago and upgraded to high-speed internet, and the tech guy went onto my computer and typed in an ip address so that we could set up a new wireless id and password.

Wondering if this caused anything.

By any chance do you have TimeWarner as your cable provider, internet or phone?
Less than a week and half ago, we installed a landline through TimeWarner and here we go a call like this comes in. My husband is the only one who has the number.

Same guy called me yesterday from MicroTech, named Edward with a robotic voice.
Oddly enough, we just hooked up a landline with TimeWarner Cable. One week & 2 days after setting up this landline via modem with TW, we get this call.

Obviously I was smart enough to know right away that my computer (which I don't use) is not going to crash. After several questions on my end, I asked "so, Edward what is it that you'd like me to do?" and of course he replied, "I need you to go to your computer now"...blah, blah, blah......

Told him to never call again and I'm reporting this to TimeWarner.

Prank Call
This Roger Williams dude is quite the character.  I told him I was having his call traced and he wasn't even threatened by it.  What a scammer.  He just wouldn't hang up and kept insisting that my computer with Windows had viruses on it.  I'm a little internet provider here in Northern California and my gentleman friend received the call and handed me the phone.  "Roger" finally hung up when I told him I knew it was a scam because my computer was a Mac and not and PC with Windows.

I caution my customers about calls such as this and want everyone to know about these jerks.  This time "Roger" wanted me to type in showmypc.com in the location bar so that he could convince me to let him into my computer.

People beware of scams like this.  If it were a nasty virus, it would be on the National news.  Microsoft would never call individuals with the kinds of lines that "Roger" came up with.  Again, BEWARE.
