I have a message from my local phone company stating that my home number does not accept solicitation calls. Whoever is calling from this number bypasses the message and calls any way. Of course they hang up after I answer.

Please have our phone number removed from this computer, non-answering system!

This telephone number belongs to Pacific Telecom Communications Group. They insist that they do not initiate illegal telemarketing calls, however they are involved in managing the calling lists for their "3rd party contractors" who make the telemarketing calls.

Heh, "Local Number" instead of "phone" for me. Yeahhh, ok.

These calls used to come in regularly before the No-Call-List and then they stopped for a long time. They started up again for me when Centurylink bought out Qwest. I've tried everything from nicely asking them to stop to offering to come to Mesa Arizona and "meet" with Chris Ambrosia. Today I sent a letter to my Congressman with copies to the Federal Trade Commission and Centurylink. The calls come from numbers all over the country; Florida to Oregon, etc. Centurylink offered to provide a service which answers the phone and informs caller you don't accept calls from solicitors, for a fee.
I already pay a fee for the no call list. Its called federal taxes. I've had virtually hundreds of these calls. I have friends from all over the country so I don't want to not answer long distance calls. This phony ba$turd drives me nuts. A special place in hell is surely reserved for him to rot in.

Constantly calling and when I responded to get my name removed from their calling list, they would not identify themselves and then hung up.

That's because they were just phishing to be sure you were a real person. Anytime they get a response of any kind you are on their 'sucker' list for future scams. I never respond.
A note on Unwanted Calls. Our world is changing. Sadly - The 'Do Not Call' list only works with Legitimate Telemarketers but unfortunately does not apply to: Surveys, Charities and of course, Criminals don't follow any laws. These Criminals have various kinds of ploys. Some hide behind Surveys and Charities and of course the two big ones are Phony Debt Collectors and Low Interest offers. The only way to avoid these calls is DO NOT EVER RESPOND because if you do respond you will not only continue to be harassed by the same caller but your number will be sold to other 'Harassers' now that they know you are a live Human Being with a real phone number. Also the Criminals/Shysters only use a number for a short period and then change it to avoid being caught. Another sad note is that even if you do respond to a legitimate Survey or Charity - you will be placed on a 'Sucker List' and your number will be passed To & Fro for all to exploit you, including the criminals. I also never respond to any political calls anymore, because I don't want to give any politician the knowledge of my concerns just so He/She can LIE TO ME in the future by telling me 'What I want to hear', because - Honest Politicians already 'know' the Needs and Concerns of The People that He/She is representing. Again, our world has changed and responding to any of these callers only places us at risk for 'Who knows what?" At this time in history I have not discovered a way to 'AVOID' ALL HARASSMENT and so far the only way to avoid ongoing harassment is -Caller ID- and/or a phone that can 'Block' callers who will not stop. Some of these phones also have a Programming Feature that will BLOCK Calls which do not have a number like 'Out Of Area' or 'Private Caller" and is well worth the Investment. We can no longer 'Trust' ANYONE "Who we don't know' that is calling us.

A few things to remember:
1) The best scenario is to answer the phone, and set it down on the table. Don't waste a second of your time listening or trying to hit some number to be removed. Just let the message roll. Trust me, they won't listen to your request to stop calling, but if we ALL burn up their phone line minutes by letting their message run full-course, they will feel it, as it quickly ties up their lines to make more calls.
2) If it is a live person, be extremely polite and tell them that you would "love to help them, but just cannot at this time" and offer to call them back... Now at this point you are in control of the conversation, and can begin to ask them questions that they normally wouldn't answer, like what company they are with, where are they based, etc. I have used this technique and actually been told real names of others in their organization which can be included in a report to donotcall.gov.
3) When I'm in a feisty mood, one of my personal favorites is simply to act like I'm half deaf and cannot hear them. After about a minute of "Huh?... What? ... Who again?" and phrases like that, they are more likely to hang up and actually delete your number.
Finally, if they know you are irritated by the calls, they WILL continue to call, so the real key is either make it so that you smother them with kindness to get them to drop their guard and divulge information, (which you can use ina report to the FTC), or to make it so inconvenient for them to call your number that they will remove it.

This number just called my house at 8:50pm EST. I have 3 kids that are sleeping! Not cool. If you are going to call you need to be on the other end.
My phone number is also on the Do Not Call List.

As most others, Caller ID said "Phone". Wonder if these imbeciles need that as a reminder as to what device they are using. Anyway, for repeat offenders/solicitors, a few BLASTS from an AIR HORN will probably accomplish more than any number of calls to the FTC, BBB, DNC-List, etc. It may not always work, but at least you know the source of frustration is getting some payback. And, instead of hanging up and being irritated or having them hang up on you, you take control of the situation and throw these scammers some of their own medicine to choke on. I go out of my way to make sure I only do this to repeat callers and those who won't take "LEAVE ME ALONE" as an answer. Not sure it's always effective, but at least you know you wrested control of the situation from those SOB's and fought back.

I have the same option to forward calls from these jerks. However, I've forwarded them to the WI Attorney General and various offices at the Department of Justice. If they want to play the fake # game they have met their match. I change the # the call is forwarded to daily. Evenings and weekends I forward it to the home phones of local judges and law enforcement officers. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a good old fashioned telephone book.

Heh. I called FTC - "Protecting America's Consumers" as they state on their web site. Their ONLY concern was whether or not the caller placed any calls after 9:00pm. Should I have said yes?
The person I spoke with was very polite and was happy to take my information and she said the FTC is doing the best it can. I'm not sure what that means. And boy was she in a hurry to take the next call.
I said, look, what's the big deal? Why doesn't someone at the FTC call the number I just gave you and inquire as to what's going on? No answer to that question but I was told I could get a case number if I wanted one.
Oh, and forget telling anyone you are on the do not call list - they don't care about that either. There is no help for that situation.

I have received 9 such calls (several different numbers used) in two days. I have entered my phone number on the government's Do-no-call list and am now getting more than ever. I need help getting phone solicitation stopped. I do not answer and they continue to call.

Every time they call, Caller ID shows a different number. Today, ID name was 'PHONE'. I've told them several times to never call me again. Just got done talking with them. First a recording offers a lower interest rate on credit card and adds, "This is the VERY LAST TIME we're going to call with this offer". I pressed '1' to talk to a representative. A female came on line and immediately asked how much debt was on my card. I said, "I'm not sure, what is your company's name?" She said, "We're Central Processing for Visa, American Express, MasterCard & Discover." I said, "Wouldn't my credit card company send me something in the mail?" She,"Oh, we can lower rates on all credit cards." I said,"Can I have your number so I can call you back." She hung up.
It's always the same recording, "This is the VERY LAST TIME we're going to call with this offer." Funny thing is they've called about 100 times! I wish they'd come through on their promise that it's the VERY LAST TIME.

Just got a call from them again. This time caller ID says "Phone". It's a telemarketing company that says it's the last call about lowering your interest rate on your credit cards. I let the automated voice tell me what number to push to talk to a representative and when he came on the phone he asked me if I pressed 1 to lower my interest rate. I told him that I did press 1 but don't pay interest on my credit cards and want to be put on their "DO NOT CALL" list. He hung up in my ear! A_ _ holes!!

Reporting these idiots to the FCC is a waste of time. The best way to get back is to string them along with bogus information for as long as you can. That way you have cut their scam time. Since most of these calls are automated it may motivate them to remove your number since there is nothing more annoying to them than having their scam time wasted by going through the process. Its time we victims of these telemarketing calls unite and fight back.
