I received a voice message from this number with a case number PDL23768.
Upon returning the call on a different phone, the lady asked for me to provide my name.
I told her I wished to not disclose such information as she called me & that I was only calling to gather information about her company.
She said since I did not want to cooperate, do not call her phone & proceeded to hang up on me.
I called back.
To which I got the voicemail box of an "investigator" who did not provide their name.
I called back.
Same "Tracy" female answered stating that if I continue to play on her phone, she will call the authorities.
I find it hilarious as I am still awaiting the authorities.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

This is extortion dressed as debt collection. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. More than likely the debt claims are bogus as well. As early as possible it's critical to determine if your collector is domestic or yet another South Asian faker. The former you can sue into submission; the latter tend to be out of reach.

My notes from October 2011 on payday loan and "hot check" collectors are linked below.

No, you are "fortunate to know someone" who flunked out of Police Academy and probably spent his teen years trying to pass fourth grade. You're such an obvious stupid shill my head hurts to think of how you manage to dress yourself in the morning without little notes pinned to all your clothes.

Hmmm...now what could someone do with a 24 to 48 hour notice of their impending arrest?? Gee, they could disappear!  You are not notified in advance of your arrest!! If that were the case, we wouldn't have any need for jails!! Besides, there are no debtors prisons anymore!!

see my post below...I had the same people call and as of this morning she; her name was Jennifer stated within 24-48 hours my local police would be at my door to arrest me!!
has anyone ever really had the police show up?? what happened to your situation??
I finally told her I wasn't paying anything and requested if it was true to send me the proof in writing, she never responded to that and her final statement to me was I will have the police call you and tell you you can be arrested for fraud and then she hung up.  I haven't heard anything since then.  But now I am living in a paranoid state of mind thinking they will show up anytime and take me away!! should I be worried or not??
help!

Debt Collector
they called a family member of mine, then called me at work, threatened that if I don't pay the balance in 24 hours they will come arrest me at my work
the lady even lied and said she talked my boss half hour before that they were coming to get me in which my boss said no one called her, and she then stated she talked to an old roommate of mine for two hours that will testify against me? I know I have an outstanding PDL, but not sure if it is the correct one or not. What should I do? ask for it in writing to be mailed to my home address??
she then called me again the next day and threatened that within 24-48 my local police will be at me house to arrest me

I received a call from this number and then ignored her information, only to then be contacted by my local police who advised that I had a warrant out for my arrest concerning Fraud, I was advised that the number listed for the Attorney is the number to contact regarding the file which is the same number, I did in fact pay the restitution on the case and therefore was able to have the warrant withdrawn.  I did research and it was in fact a payday loan that I did in fact take out previously and did owe the money for.  Be careful in ignoring the calls before it's too late. I'm fortunate to know someone who works at the local police department and gave me a heads up. Be Careful!

Debt Collector
Do not give any information to these people. They are scams. Please report to the FTC . Google Fake Debt collectors and read the articles. This has been on all the news channels.
The FTC?s February 2012 complaint alleged that the callers who worked with the defendants would contact consumers who previously had received or inquired about online payday loans. Often pretending to be law enforcement or other government authorities, the callers would falsely threaten to immediately arrest and jail consumers if they did not agree to make a payment on a supposedly delinquent payday loan. The FTC alleged that information submitted by consumers who had applied online for these loans found its way into the hands of the defendants, who used it to convince consumers that they owed them money.

Prank Call
I have received soo many phone calls from this number. They keep telling me I owe them some money and they going to come arrest me. They start out being nice and when they see you not going to fall for this scam, they get mad and call you names. I told them a real bill collector or an attorney would not use the language they are using. Now they are calling relatives of mine scaring them and telling them that I am going to jail for a long time if someone don't pay my bill. My aunt was so scared that she say she will pay them. I told her its a scam and dont give them her credit card number. They tried to get her to give them her card an process this payment for me. I wish someone could do something about these peoples. all the do is buy numbers and call again and again.
