I got the same kinda call you guys got, but mine was from "AM Payments" too, and "Julia" was trying to scam me.  She used the "red flag" line, and quoted me that 1.79% number, and said that VISA had hired her company to investigate my current processor.  Every time she called, the fax number she told me to send my statement to was a different number.  I didn't send them anything, and I'm glad I didn't.  Later, this lady Julia called me back and this time said that I would have to pay a fine since I didn't send her my statement.  Lies, lies, lies.

I also got a call - with the same exact message as everyone else (red flag, illegal fees, etc.).  When I told Joanna, the representative that I was talking to, about all the negative reviews I found on the Internet, she said she understood how I felt and gave me a website to "prove" they were a legitimate company.  www.pivotalone.com  They do have an A+ rating with the BBB, but they have only been accredited since 4/18/2011.  I remember getting a call from the same people last year.  In fact, the man I spoke to the first time even remembered a part of our conversation. After declining their offer, this Joanna faxed me a screenshot of their website, as well as the BBB page about them and the BBB page about my current processing company.  I'm not sure how they got my fax number, but I would like to have it removed from their list

- Received a cold call notifying us that our account had been flagged as possibly being overcharged by our card processing company.  The caller was independent and authorized by Visa and Mastercard.  They offered to do a statement review to determine that our account was hit by processing fees in excess of 2% rather than the legal limit of 1.79% - and anything more than 2.5% for all fees combined was illegal and could be challenged.  We could get out of our current contract, obtain an alternate merchant account with tier 1 processing, or force restructuring of our current contract.  We only needed to fax our statement to them for their review process at no charge to us (which is what every processing firm asks us to do when wanting to quote rates to change to them).
- They were not to be confused with the Canadian company with the same name which has been subject to really poor reviews.  They were a Texas operation (Pivotal Cdn. has opened an office in Plano, see press releases).  Calling their 888 number returned the same PivotalPayments.com website out of Canada for the firm offering Canadian and USA merchant card processing services. No "statement review" services are listed for determining illegally high fees.
- Pretty creative way to prospect clients, don't you think?

Received a call yesterday from a man claiming to be from Mastercard & Visa stating my credit card processing account had been "red flagged" due to excessive fees being charged by the company I currently use, and wanted me to fax him a statement of my current account (which I did not).  I googled the number and came up with nothing but when I called the number back they answered Pivotal Payments -  a credit card processing company themselves.  He called back again today since I did not fax him my statement and when I accused him of lying to me about representing Mastercard & Visa he claimed they contacted them about my account (another lie).  I told him I did not believe that and thought he was just trying to get my business.  He then still requested my statement and when I told I was not going to send it he told me to "go to hell" and hung up on me.  I called back for a supervisor who says she is going to pull the tape and get back with me.  We shall see.
