I have recently had a cut in salary due to decreased hours at work.  When you are a single mother, struggling to support your child on a fixed income, that is difficult enough in itself.  However, once my ex-husband decided that he's no longer able to afford his child support, and I'm too nice to throw his butt in jail, and my hours were cut, it has become a sheer struggle with Citifinancial.  Having had my truck for 3 years now, I have absolutely no intention of letting it go back.  When calling this company to try to setup payment arrangements, I was talked to as if I was someone who was late with payments all the time and with the respect that they had to chase me down for the phone call.  Mind you, I called them! Not to mention, I had never had a late payment, in three years, prior to two months ago.  I have finally gotten a payment deferred after 5 different phone calls to the company, and I am looking to refinance or trade out of this vehicle ASAP due to the demeanor in which my situation was handled by Citifinancial Auto.  I would NEVER under any circumstances recommend this company to anyone for any reason!

I agree 1000%

If you are going to take the time and it's important enough to call, then it must be important to leave a legitimate and understandable message.

It is CitiFinancial Auto.  True, they are for those at high risk, but they got me approved after losing two homes and having to file a bankruptcy.  It was not because I bought things I couldn't afford, I lost it all because of some douche of an exhusband who refused to get off his a** and work.  He left it up to me to pay for everything.  Said "You make enough to pay for everything so I am not going to work."  Filed for divorce after 6 mos....losing 1 house...then let everything else go since he tried to fight for everything.

CFA has been really great to work with for me...now that I am a divorced mom of two...I am doing ok on my own...better than supporting a dead beat.

I am self employed, so they have worked with me to keep current.

I have those bozos for my car loan also . My relative died so I assumed the payments. They said i missed a few payments but paid as agreed and even paid some extra some months. I got a biil for a certain amount despite paying the extra. They threatened to repo my car so i wanted the bills sent to me and they refused because I needed to fax them the death certificate of my relative.so I did and I finially got a hold orf a supervisor there and she was suppose to take care of it so I would get the info on the account. But they are still calling me too.

totally.  they are in the business of signing up people with shaky credit, then profiting from the shaky credit by charging huge interest and late fees and so forth.

the nice way to say this is that they offer an opportunity for those with shaky credit to have credit, and the must charge large to cover the defaults.

The real slime bags are the banks and or mortgage providers who purposely signed up people with bad credit, then sold the loan like a hot potato, saying it was made to a reliable party, but knowing it was a bad loan.  they are the real slime.

You do not have to keep insurance on a car that you do not operate.  If you tell them to come and get the vehicle and DO NOT continue to drive said vehicle, then just tell them that the insurance will be cancelled.  You are giving it back and are no longer responsible for it.  Just dont use it or you are accepting resonsibility for it.

And yes I know that insurance is required when you signed the contract, but by telling them to come and get the vehicle you are already breaking the contract.

This is the 10th different phone number I have in my address book for CitiFinancial Auto!! Guess they think I'll answer a number I don't recognize.  They are good about working with me BUT I am currently stuck paying 1 month behind, payment due on the 15th so I pay the previous month on the 15th (30 days late). On the 16th the phone calls start, I answer, CS rep says "we received your payment but you are currently 1 day past due, (REALLY???) can you make a payment on the phone today?"  I calmly explain my situation and that I will make my payment before the next due date and hope to be caught up in a few months.  This doesn't STOP the daily phone calls!!  It's like the assume everyone is lying and after enough phone calls we will magically have the extra money avail to pay them!  Good thing is Citi will let you get 3-4 months behind.  Had a Harley once and got behind 1 month, on day 31 the repo guy was knocking on the door at 1am. Anyhow, my 2 cents.

Car loans generally run, on the average, 60 months (5 years). The global recession began during the end of the year 2007. That was when the housing prices in the USA started to peak out. Because of over supply of property housing prices started to fall. This triggered a series of complex events which caused the economic crisis. Many individuals lost there job as a result of the economic recession so you cannot say they shouldn't have bought a car they cannot afford as you do not know the circumstances behind what lead to the vehicle being repossessed...alot can happen in 5 years and it has not been 5 years since the start of the recession.

You have got to be kiding me. Remember what you
said if you ever fall into hardship situation. I put my
life on the line to fight for the people of my country
and their freedom. You have the nerve to worry about
writting a statement that these people have some
fortune and are struggling and can't pay a bank what
you so call a legal document. That part may be true,
but as far as the part where they auction it and come
after you for the rest of the money is a joke first all.
I had them pick up my bike because of my physical
condition and they tried to tell me I still owe them
the remainder of the money, NOT use you imagination
what I told them. Specialy for the amount they auctoned
it for on top of the intrest they money they got from me.
The banks are a big rip off. As for you, you make puke to
think I spent 8 years of my life fighting for your freedom
and this is the kind of empathy and understanding you
have for people that are having problems. I have had 2
spinal surgeries and after the second it put me out of
commition for the good. I can no longer do anything I
was able to do watched friends/brothers  die beside me
and I see people like you write crap like this. I think you
Should have been one of those at the end of my glass and
I put you so you were crippled the rest of your life
and you couldn't make your bills. Maybe you even end up
Homeless cause of it like a lot of our past marines have
they were crippled for life and our compisation is about enough
to buy toilet paper with. What comes around goes around
one way or another!!!

I know what you mean ... but here's the truth on the collection calls.  As long as a creditor does the calling themselves, they can call you as many times a day as they wish.  If they hire out to another company to do their collections, the company is bound by the law to apply certain "courtesies" to each person they call which is what you are thinking should be working through citifinancial.  Unfortunately, they are not required to abide by many of those courtesies, just that they cannot be balligerant to you (got a lady fired for that), and they cannot call you before 8am or after 10pm at night, and they cannot misrepresent who they are (like this lady misrepresented that she was my account manager, top of the line, and she was neither - she was fired within the week).  So, as long as it is citibank themselves, they can call you as often as every 5 minutes if they wish between those hours, and they can call your place of business too, unless the employer demands they stop.  Not fair, not right, definitely not productive, but that's the way our laws are right now.

I went thru a divorce, had a great job but lost it because of red tape in a private industry when I remarried, worked 2 1/2 yrs in a high level position then had to go to part time for health reasons temporarily, tried to come back full time after two months when the company re-organized and removed my position from the budget.  Edplained all this to Citifinancial and the rudest most nasty woman claimed to be my account manager and that there was no one else to talk to, called me at work and put me in tears on the job knowing she was risking my keeping the job by doing do, I was very communicative with them and up front with them, and kept my arranged pmts with them, but yet they were the nastiest people I have ever dealt with.  Now that I am single, on unemployment, a full time student working towards a degree for better income possibilities and realized I have no money to keep up the pmts, NOW they want to work with me to keep a car I have demonstrated to them I cannot pay for.  NOW that THEIR credit is on the line, they are communicating as if I am a human being and not trash.  Now I have absolutely no ability to make the pmts on and keep a car I dearly loved and would have paid the extra I am upside down in ..... Now they want to work with me with pmt options to catch up the payments when I have demonstrated to them repeatedly that I cannot make the pmts how can I catch up the past due .... asked them to come and get the car asap on a voluntary repo knowing this is going to ruin my credit completely, but they have paperwork and policies they have to follow first, which means they will drag it out as long as they can showing me not making the payments for six months or more before they will do the repo ..... which makes it even worse on me .... AND they will continue calling several times a day to ask for payment and offer the payment arrangements through this six month period ... AND I have to continue to cover the car with insurance, a car I no longer drive, until they get around to coming and getting the car.  Why can't these companies just use common sense and cut the losses for everyone involved rather than ruining you to the inth degree first??? Isn't it bad enough that we are humiliated beyond reason at what life has thrown at us, have jeopardized other areas of life to manage the car payments and try to figure out how to make good on this obligation ... it's insane.

If he was that bad off, maybe they should have run the credit a little more closely and not given the loan. That's the same argument we hear about the credit card companies. They know what our credit is like and what kind of crap we are going through but still they will give the credit. It's not that we want to miss payments or get behind but sh*t happens sometimes and then they don't want to hear about it; just want their money.

if you don't want them to call you then send them a stop call letter. Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits them from calling once they receive this letter. If they continue calling answer each call, write down time, date, caller's name or automatic message and then call a lawyer because you can sue the crap out of them. You can get a sample letter at http://www.debt-n-credit-letters.com/Debt-Dispute/stop-calling-letter.html.

Of course they might get mad and repo your car but at least it will stop the phone calls (eventually) but they can still send letters.

972-653-8803 number is CitiFinancial Auto Collections Dept. I was also getting calls from them from 877-255-7214. The 972 number frequently were just hang-ups. 14 calls in less than 48 hrs!! I called the 877 number and first got a prerecorded msg in Mexican but stayed on the line and English finally came on and was transfer to a CSR. Told her what was going on with both numbers. She took my number they were calling and told me she would forward it to her supervisor but that it may take up to 24 hrs. At least she was nice and I didn't have to go off on any one. I guess it is wait and see. BTW, I have no business with them at all.

I understand that banks or creditors will call people if they get behind.  I'm all fine with that, as they are just doing their job.  However, what I do not get is why they cannot leave a message.

For example.  If I call someone, and they don't answer, I will leave my name, a number to call me back, and the reason I am calling. To me, the more detailed of a message left, the better chance I have of the person calling back.

What I do not understand is why either no message is left, or if they leave one, it is either cut off, or just something like "Call back at such and such number", with no real information.

To me, the message that should be left is this.

"Hello.  This is <insert bank or company name here>.  We see that you are past due x number of days on the payment of your <car, house, credit card> payment on account number ###-###-#######.  Please call our office at ###-###-#### between the hours of 8 am and 10 PM Monday thru Friday or on Saturday between 10 AM and 2 PM to speak with us about this matter.  Thanks and have a good day"

If I got that message, I know EXACTLY who is calling, WHY they are calling, and EXACTLY who I need to call.

Bottom line:  If you, as a company do not have the decency to leave that kind of message, then you are not worth my time.

The information they gave was informative and could help a lot of people looking on this board to 1)Figure out who is calling and 2) once they get the information, how to handle it. Not everyone is aware there are other options other than allowing a repossession and a hit to their credit.

However, if they cannot afford the car due to whatever circumstances, then they must make the best decision they can for themselves. I am a customer of citifinancial auto, I refinanced with them because they offered me a lower interest rate. I was paying 14% and they offered me 9%, thus reducing my car note. This was much needed at the time because my hours were cut and my husband wasn't making much money (he took the first job he could get after he was laid off). Anytime we fell behind, they were willing to work with us.

So, take the advice of Stopcalling and call the company, explain your circumstances and see what they are willing to do for you.

They are actually great to work with unlike some other banks. If you are only one month behind, call now and set up a deferment. Its pretty easy to do, but they might want some extra references to call if you fall too far behind. They are a high risk auto loan provider so the goal is to get you to continue paying. They are already making enough on the interest they are charging. I have been behind almost 4 months and they are still cool with you.
