They also use the following number in NY - 212-799-9922 or the number comes up as Private.  Here they say they are calling about your Con Edison account and it's the same routine.  I started asking questions, told them I was taping the call and that I would be reporting them - they hung up.  Then they called back.....  Problem is, you can't even block these calls because they are using a computer program to make them - the number you see doesn't exist with 411.  It's incredibly annoying.

The *67 option does not work anymore - I received incorrect information.  Just call and have Verizon, or your phone provider do it for you.  I have not gotten any calls since blocking them!

Holy crap. For 2 or 3 weeks these incredibly annoying 973-1xx-xxxx numbers have been calling non-stop. Like other have said sometimes 4 to 5 times a day.
When is this going to stop?!? I have picked it up a few times listened to the pitch and hung up. I really don't want to press 3 to get off their list because I always worry that will just prove this is a real number and they'll keep calling. However I may just do it next time they call.
I've also tried the quick pick up/ hang up hoping that stops it and spoofs the computer into thinking this number isn't real but it hasn't.
Ugh, so frustrating.

I just spoke with Verizon and there is an easy way to block these numbers.  For Verizon, press *67 on your phone, and type in the number.  You can also do this online.  When the caller tries to make a call to you they will get a message "the caller is not accepting calls"., so there is no phone call made and no message left.  Hopefully, once they know they can be blocked, they won't try calling from yet another 1- number.  Hopefully......

In the past two hours since I type my last message above, I have received four more calls. Each time I talk to a different person.  Now their calling about every ten minutes.  Probably because they know that it is bothering me.  I am on the DNCR.  I tried to block unregistered calls but it doesn't seem to work.  Telemarketing is really a thing of the past because of people like this.

This number, and others also call me 5 or 6 times per day, however, they manage to leave a "non" message on my voicemail which requires me to call vm and delete the silent  message.  Very irritating. I'm calling Verizon today to see if it can be blocked.  Has anybody had luck with this?

Can someone please get the FBI involved? This is obviously a very serious criminal offense. This energy broker is harrassing many people 6 times a day and circumventing DNCR. I hope the fines are very steep with jail time.

When you try to talk to a rep to get your number removed, they will ask for your account number.

NEVER GIVE ANY ACCOUNT NUMBER OR EVEN YOUR NAME TO ANYONE COLD CALLING YOU.  ANY LEGITIMATE COMPANY THAT YOU ALREADY DO BUSINESS WITH ALREADY HAS YOUR NAME AND ACCOUNT NUMBERS, AND WILL NEVER ASK YOU TO PROVIDE THESE THINGS.  IF SOMEONE ASKS YOU FOR THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE, IT IS A SCAM.

Furthermore, whoever these people are, they at times try to misrepresent themselves as PSEG or JCPL to gain your trust (they are NOT PSEG or JCPL; again, they refuse to identify who they are).

This is a shady scam.  Just look at the phone number:  973-158-9945.  The prefix is 158.  I'm pretty sure that the prefix is supposed to start with any digit that is 2 through 9, but a prefix starting with 1 is not legitimate.  Think about it.  Have you ever known of a phone number, whether in the 973 area code or any other area code in the United States, where the prefix starts with a 1?  I don't think so.  This is why when you try to call this phone number, "Your call can not be completed as dialed."  It seems, you can't trace this number to any actual identity, and that is probably how this entity, whoever/whatever it is, is getting around the Do Not Call Registry.

Obviously, this is not a legitimate company if they are using deceitful practices to get around the Do Not Call Registry, misrepresenting themselves as PSEG or JCPL, and don't even have legitimate phone numbers.

Yesterday, this number was on my caller ID seven times.  No message is ever left.  Today, I answered and it claimed to be PSE&G to get a discount on my utilities.  I could press 3 to decline the offer.  I figured that they would stop calling.  The funny thing is that I don't have PSE&G!  They called back within a half hour.  I answered and pressed the number to accept so I could talk to someone.  They wanted to know my name and account number.  I told them that I do not have PSE&S and she said that she would remove my number.  As I am typing this I received the same call and talked to another person who said that they would remove my number and hung up on me.  My caller ID comes up as Out of Area so I do not know if this is for real or a scam.

Yes, I get upwards of 6 calls per day from this number (and several others like it) which all go to voice mail.  Problem is that I get home from work and most days lately have at least 12 voice mails that I have to listen to/delete.  AND I'm registered on the National Do Not Call Registry!!!

They have called three times today alone. I don't have PSE&G and don't want to switch. I am on the do not call list. Why are they still calling?

This is an energy broker trying to hook you into changing energy suppliers. They will not even tell you who they work for. Tjey call themselves the "Discount Savings Center" that is not even a real company.

i just had the number call again!  that's three times in an hour.
i let it go to the machine, waited for them to hang up, and then dialed back.
"i'm sorry.  your call cannot be completed as dialed.  please check the number and try again."

i do not answer - i let it go to the machine - and they never leave a message.
