I received a call from this number also. The recording indicated that my atm card at a credit union had been deactivated. I hung up after that. I too have a 202 cell number.

Like the other posts...I got 4 calls (back to back) at midnight on my 202 cellphone. I called back from a landline and the message said there was an error with the number.

The scam is continuing this time the phone number is based out of St. Louis and the number is 314-732-0522. I just received the same recording from Lafayette but did not put in any information. They called my cell phone which is based out of a 202 area code. I wonder if there is a place to report this so that others are aware of this scam.

Watch Out For Scammers Pretending To Be Your Credit Card Company's Fraud Department
When a strange person calls you on the telephone claiming to represent a company you do business with and asks you to give them sensitive personal information, tell them that you'll call them back on the regular customer service number that you usually use to contact them.

Two consecutive calls 3/9/09 (first missed) by computer voice from Lafayette FCU about debit card deactivation. Must be scam.

I received four calls from this number, five mins apart, late Sunday morning. No messages were left and there was no answer when I called back--just a voice mail recording for a Darryl Mayer. Like others who've posted here, I also have a 202 cell #.

I, too, have a 202 area code phone number and received the same automated voice greeting. Called back after it tried me several times and got a message that said "your call cannot be completed at this time..."
I recommend doing what the others on this thread suggested -- DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION WHEN CALLED BY THIS PHONE NUMBER

We also received calls from this number within the past hour.
The recording said it was from Lafayette Federal Credit Union and that for security reasons, our ATM card had been deactivated.
The name used was Carol May (?)
The message gave me a menu for reactivation. I have never heard of Lafayette I am not a member of Lafayette.
I have not called back and do not intend to!
ANOTHER MAJOR CELL PHONE SCAM

MAJOR SCAM-
Received a call from this number. Recording said it was from Lafayette Federal Credit Union and that for security reasons, my ATM card had been deactivated. It gave me a menu for reactivation. I am not a member of Lafayette but played along. It asked for my ATM card number, and I assume would have asked for my PIN.
I hung up and called back. An automated voice mail message for "Darryl Mare" or "Mayer" came up but I did not leave a message. Directory assistance lists this number as unlisted out of Rockaway, NJ. Lafayette is a credit union based in Maryland and I have a DC cell number... so this makes sense.
MAJOR SCAM-
