Yep...me too! I just took a picture of all the online posts that say he s a scammer. I replied to his text with a picture of those posts!

I just had the same guy contact me after I put my Fiat up on cars.com yesterday.  He texted me and asked me to email him.  He then asked for the price and maintenance history.  And now he is asking for more photos as he says he will pay with Paypal etc..  the same scam as Jim's.

This person "David" replied to my ad on Cars.com and asked me to email him at icemondo2@yahoo.com ...I did, but his follow-on questions about vehicle service history and asking price made no sense (since they are all listed in the ad) and also he typed like someone with an English educational background, not someone from Livingston, NJ where the phone number is based. I told him I had ID'd him as a scanner and he never wrote again.

If you've been texted from this number about an ad for a car you're selling, you should probably take a look at the notes for 209-213-7631.  It may be the same scammer.  Beware of taking PayPal for *anything* when the buyer does not have a verified address and the item isn't being shipped in a manner that allows their guarantee to apply; "I'll have the transportation company pick it up" is not going to meet their requirements.  Unless *you* control the shipping via a carrier of *your* choice whose reputation is accepted by PayPal as solid, and unless the recipient signs for the item at the point of delivery, you have NO PROTECTION when selling something via PayPal, and these fraudsters know it.  And asking for a cashier's check is effectively just giving it away for free; those are trivially easy to forge.  As they advise on Craigslist, NEVER sell something expensive from an online advertisement for anything except cash, and only sell to a local person.  And examine the cash carefully; there's a lot of counterfeit running around.
