Yeah... it must be a Memphis thing, because I still have a 901 cell phone number but live in a different city.  And all of a sudden i keep getting these stupid "warranty" calls from different numbers... this being one of them.

Forgot to mention - found it peculiar to see an ad below the first page of comments for a extented auto warranty finder biz - any connections ??? My cell # doesn't exist anywhere on this PC but has gone out in a couple of web-mails to relevant parties a couple of times over the last month. Random thing? E-snoop / snatch / string catcher?  Certainly has nothing to do with any autos of mine or to the very very limited number of very well known / trusted folks that my number has ever been provided to.

I played along until they were asking for payments. I drive an 89 cutlass... So this was pretty funny. Don't get so freaked out by these people, just waste their time and ask intricate questions about the car warranty as if you are interested.

Didn't pick up or return call for the 973 804 0196 - not familiar / good practice not to pick up or return - recently made such mistake with another number - same thing I suspect with that - something urgent about your car warranty expiring soon, actually had one show up on voice mail with same story line - should have tried to have it tracked and killed!

My kids have a phone for emergencies and this number called them 2 hours ago. It's a new phone for the kids and they seem to get multiple unsolicited calls every day. I've had my phone for 5 years and never get sales calls. Is there some way to stop this? They aren't allowed to answer (I don't want anyone to realize there's a person available on our end) and I haven't set up voice mail for them yet...

Just wondering what to do? (My kids are only allowed to answer calls from numbers in their phone book. NO unknown numbers!)

Telemarketer
my cell rang with a call from 973-804-0196. I answered and got a robot voice calling that it was my "second notice (a lie) that your warranty had recently expired. Press 1 if you want to purchase a warranty."

I decided to have some fun with them. I pressed 1. Some broad got on the phone and asked for my name (William Z. Bubbe), for my zip, for what year make model of my vehicle. I told her 'a 2000 Ford F-250 diesel.' When she asked how many miles, I told her '250,000', knowing that there is no way that any REAL after-market warranty outfit would offer a warranty for a vehicle with that many miles. The bi*** hung up on me. LOL That is the best way to get rid of these fraudulent after-market warranty scam artists. They don't call back for months.

Then just to have more fun I called back asking for more information. A guy answered this time. I went thru the same spiel and I asked him what the max mileage was that they'd offer a warranty. He wouldn't answer, he kept asking what my mileage was. So I asked him to hold on so I could go out to my truck to look at the odometer. I put him on speaker so I could hear if he had hung up and then.... proceeded to surf on the internet, use the bathroom, send a fax...after 5 minutes the dumbass realized he'd been had and hung up.

Then I called back AGAIN and pressed 1 when the robot voice asked if I wanted to be placed on the no-call list and I wouldn't get another call from them (which is another LIE).

BTW - a word of advice. If you are ever at a new or used car dealer and they are trying to sell you an expensive $750 extended warranty from an outfit called "AUTO-EXTEND" do not, Not, NOT buy it. It is the biggest ripoff I ever got stuck with. Once my Dodge truck's warranty ran out the AUTO-EXTEND warranty essentially covered NOTHING and/or the deductible was so high that I had to pay 95% of a "covered repair". I went round & round with the dealer and finally I had to sue my dealership and got my $750 back.
If you are buying a new car, the factory extended warranties are a good value - it's like HMO for cars. $25 deductible and all kinds of stuff is covered. Saved me thousands of dollars over the time I owned a Ford Bronco II. MAKE SURE IT'S A WARRANTY FROM THE FACTORY. It'll say Dodge or Ford or GMC or whatever. AUTO-EXTEND SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!!!

I just got a call on my cell phone from this number, too. Didn't recognize it, so didn't answer it as I've had many strange telemarketing calls on my cell these past several weeks. VERY annoying. I've been trying to call the number, but all it ever says is "we're sorry, all circuits are busy now." Busy bothering other people for something they neither need nor want, most likely.

I just got a call at 1:30 ct. i answered because i used to live in jersey (973 area code) but then they said something about getting a warranty for my vehicle, but a) i dont have a vehicle registered in my name, b) my warranty isnt near expired, so i pressed 1 to speak to someone and i said "i dont have a car in my name, who is this" and they hung up.

Got a call from this number at 2:19pm EST on 3/7/09. Didn't answer, no message. I get about three calls a week from bogus and always changing numbers like this per week. The common complaint from people who answer is something about a car warranty scam.
