Just got a call on my cell from this number. This individual with a strong accent was from (allegedly) Dunn and Bradstreet wanting to confirm whether this was a business or personal phone, and that they are wanting this information for a national database. Totally stupid. I acted completely dumb, and kept them on the line for as long as I could (I was driving). At least if they are talking to me then they are not scamming someone else.

If Dun & Bradstreet is calling your cell phone (not landline) without your express consent, you can start a class action under the TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act).

I am being represented in a TCPA case by the IHateTelemarketing attorneys:

Highly recommend speaking with them if you're willing to be a class rep.

called about our business and trying to get us to update our profile by using a service they sell for $ 495 dollars.   Said it would increase our credit rating with our banks.  Insisted on getting my boss's credit card number to start the subscription for this service.   Very strange call and totally wrong to hound me into giving them a credit card number over the phone.

I received a call yesterday and the person I spoke to was very hard to understand due to bad English.  I didn't give too much information but I felt something was wrong.  He said they would send me an email and I still haven't received any email!! I agree it's a scam! !!

I finally got through to someone from DNB, and asked to have my information removed from their records as I was not comfortable with them having it, and my initial call was misleading as to why they were surveying me (I thought is was for government purposes at first until they asked for financial records). I was then told that my information cannot be deleted, and that it is used to verify a business for financial or business management purposes, if I were to do business with another company or a bank so they can verify my business. After a long conversation and referencing calling a lawyer, I was still told I cannot remove my information from their data base. This is unacceptable.

Got a call from someone looking for business information. Was under the impression this was for government purposes, until they started asking for financial information. Googled them and found they stock information for third party purposes. Now trying to have my company removed from their database, but getting a hold of someone is proving difficult.

same info here, received call from Greg of D & B Credibility Corporation.  Listened to the information they were trying to sell just waste their time.  Then the real sales pitch came "  Mr. Martin, if you give us your credit card information to use over the phone, we can discount our $ 899 package down to $ 495 "

that was the final straw if you have to be that pushy to scam people that you need to entice them with a credit card over the phone.

Hopefully no one loses money on these folks.

Kristie,
Just because you call a number and they answer Dunn and Bradstreet does not mean they are. The call is a scam.

Don't think that it is real if they won't send papers by mail. They wanted my business info and I told the lady that she could send it to a PO Box and she said that they couldn't do that. And that I was going to be calling the government to see if they are legitimate and she hung up on me...

called a few minutes ago from Dunn & Bradstreet on caller ID, except that they are really Dun (not the extra N).  Number on Caller ID was 973-929-3290 and was asking for information about our business.  I am reluctant to give out answers to this person as they really didn't impress me that they were really from D & B.  I offered to call the main number that is listed on their website and not the number she gave of 866-346-9237 which is for D & B credibility report.   Kept insisting that they could make our credit rating higher with our customers if we would agree to a 1 year subscription to their services.  The fee for this was $ 495 which seems very high.  A credit card number would be all that would be required he told me.  What I don't understand is why a company would be so pushy as to insult business's intelligence.

Even if this was not D & B calling (the real D & B), why hired such rude people as callers.

Called# back was NOT aanswered as Dunn &  Bradstreet.  Dunn &Bradstreet is a very reliable company and DOES answer their phones by their business name...Dunn & Bradstreet. Please be careful giving your information out to this number.

Mike,
While I agree that this is most likely a scam, do a little research and you will quickly convince yourself that Dun and Bradstreet does, in fact, only have one 'n'.  My wife used to work for them.  I'm on your side, but you're making yourself look like an idiot by reiterating something that is simply wrong and easy to verify in about 5 seconds.  Try Googling 'Dunn and Bradstreet' and see what you get.  Dunn Edwards paint, most likely.

I called the main number listed on Dun and Bradstreet's website and verified with them. It is indeed their phone number, a department that deals with client's request to survey their potential customer/supplier's creditworthiness. Some of the questions they've asked are company establishment year, locations, subsidiaries, gross sales, number of employees, etc.
Two things that bothered me were that :1. They've asked for our company's P & L and proof of company establishment to be sent via email. 2. They were not willing to disclose the requester's identity, but only said that it's from some company that needs to verify supplier's credit risk. Really put me in a dilemma on whether to furbish those documents for them or not.

I just got a call ( 3/17/14 ) from 973-929-3290 by a lady with a thick accent saying she was calling from Dun & Bradstreet asking to update our company information. I called the main company 877-458-7055 to find out if this call was a scam or fishing attempt to get my info. Apparently they did not show in their system that they called me to update their information. They did tell me that there is another company, who used to be part of D & B but separated 8 years ago, which is called Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corporation ( DBCC ) and I could call them to see if they are the ones who called. So I called 800-700-2733, the number given to me by D & B. The guy at DBCC said the he couldn't verify that this 973 number belongs to them but that it could have been them. He transferred me to the department that would have called me to find out for sure, but then when I was connected, I was put back through to D & B at which time I was told that DBCC is a third party company that has limited access to their information but it is D & B that collects the data. D & B didn't show having called me in their system, and he said they always give a reference number whenever they call. It is inconclusive, but my suspicion is that this number belongs to someone unscrupulous.

This is some kind of phishing scam, plain and simple. My businesses are already listed with D&B and they sent us forms to fill out. Only a complete idiot of a CEO would tell their peons to use the phone to gather info in this day and age of ID theft and scamming. While I was called on my personal cell phone, both my businesses, as well as the real D&B, have NEVER AT ANY TIME been given my personal cell phone number, yet that is the number these filthy scum bag scammers attempted to call me on. If D&B has lowered themselves to gathering data via phone, I no longer see them as legit, and will be pulling my listings - they are worthless these days anyway. But what I really love here, is that the scammers have come on here to try to convince people being called that it is in fact completely legit - they are in fact filthy trash working for the scammers.
