Yup, 2/27/2014 got a call from this number.  It turns out that they are calling right down the number list.  So as an example they called my number at (111) 222 0001 and in that same morning they called (111) 222 0089 and (111) 222 0011 as well.  They did only dial the odd numbers in my case.  Same M.O., it is all social engineering.  Any specific information they had about you they managed to get you to tell them first.  These jokers do not have any information about you, they are just cold calling numbers and looking for the easy scam.

Same story as many already reported.  The guy had a few key details correct, however, so I was really scared until I could get in touch with my husband.  I called the police also - is there anything else that can be done to stop this?  I am so angry...

I recieved the same call this morning, my parents had been in an accident and they hit his brother who had a gun and that i needed to help or the situation would turn ugly. When i asked what my parents names where he couldn't tell me and when i said I was going to call them to check on them he told me i didn't want to do that. When i asked what his name was again he said i already told you that. I hung up, called my parents, who were both fine, then filed a report. Im in Colorado.

Just got my wife, same story about accident, family member, etc.  Smart enough to do it on Presidents day so the bank can't stop the funds.  IC3 seems to be more involved with internet crimes than phone crimes, and they want too much info.

Prank Call
Received the call in CO Springs, CO this morning at around 8am.  Didn't answer at first but they called right back.  I answered the second time; caller said Thank you for answering the call.  He said a family member was in an accident and he was given my number to call.  I didn't respond (was trying to get out the door to take my step-daughter to school and get to work).  He continued on saying there was an accident this morning in CO Springs involving a black SUV and a blue 4-door car and asked if any of my family members drove either of those types of vehicles.  I told him no but my husband does drive a blue 4-door so I started to get worried but the way he kept saying ma'am and was very calm made me doubt him some.  He went on to say the accident happened around 25 minutes ago in CO Springs (my husband would have already been at work for an hour and he works in a town 45 mins away so I started to realize this was some kind of scam).  I told him I haven't heard anything about an accident and asked him who was involved in the accident.  At that point the connection dropped.  Don't know if it was my cell phone dropping the call or if he disconnected.  He never called back.

My husband was in an accident just over a year ago on his way to work and someone from his work called me to let me know because he was taken to the hospital (He was fine but they had to check him out) so I was a little freaked out by this call.  I dropped my step-daughter at school and then called my husband because I didn't want to worry her unnecessarily.  He was safe at work.  Took me 2 hours to stop shaking after this!   I called my local police station and they told me to go to www.ic3.gov and report it there.

Prank Call
I got a call from this number. I only  picked up because I thought it was a robo-call & didn't want it going to my voicemail. I didn't say anything when I picked up & the male voice on the other end was saying hello...hello...hello... After several hellos, he said something about it was the police & after a few more hellos, he hung up.  I immediately googled the number--a good practice for any number that you do not recognize or know.

People, PLEASE use your heads!!! If it's the police, they identify themselves immediately and GIVE you the information. They don't ASK you for information--they called you!!!  And anyone who calls would know more about it than you and already have all the information that YOU need, not them.

If you inadvertently answer any call like this, give them incorrect information that can't possibly be true. Then when they confirm that it's a red truck (that no one in your family ever owned) and it's your Uncle Sam (when you have only aunts and no relative by that name), you'll know that it's a scam. Call the police and report them.

Prank Call
Got a phone call from that # this morning.  Said that one of my family members had been in a 3 car accident and that they asked him to call me.  I asked what kind of car and they said truck, suv and bmw.  I replied that my daughter has an suv and I asked what color - said that one of the other drivers (his brother) had a gun and was running from police because he was a member of the cartel and was wanted and her was holding my daughter at gunpoint downstairs at his house. Told me to get in my car & stay on the phone.  I whispered to my husband to call me daughter and the man said if you are calling her you will have more trouble.  He again told me to get in my car and beep the horn so he would know I was in it.  Thank goodness my daughter answered her phone (she was in class) and the man hung up.  We called the county police and they said it was a scan & that the FBI knew about it.  I just want to know why they can't trace the phone and track these crazies down.

I like to know how they use this person phone number and the individual doesn't know anything about their phone number being used.

Got a similar call from 978-376-7327. A person with a Hispanic accent said there was a 3-car accident in Maryland involving a Ford, Honda and Nissan. I asked him where he got my number - he said from one person in the car accident.
He kept asking me if I had friends or relatives in Maryland who drove a Ford, Honda or Nissan. I said I have a couple of friends living in Maryland, but don't remember what type of car they had. I asked him the exact location and time of the accident and he kept saying Maryland and some time ago. Realizing that this was a scam/prank call, I just hung up on him.

I got the exact same call! It was freaky because my son had been in an accident the week before and this call totally confused me what they were talking about. Hang up immediately, unlike me. I tried to get them to explain things more and the story got more and more sordid.  They wanted me to drive somewhere with my debit card and pay them ransom.  They pretended to be hurting my son. At that point I hung up. Report it to the police. (My son is fine!!!)

Prank Call
This just happened to me less than an hour ago.  Same exact story.  He said there was a car accident involving 3 different make and model cars, one happened to be a white SUV which is what my daughter drives.  He said that his brother didn't have insurance and didn't want to get the police involved.  He said that he wanted $1600 and threatened that if I didn't go to the nearest Walmart immediately they were gonna kill my daughter.  So I did that and took one of my fellow workers with me who was in contact with the police the whole time.  Unfortunately, the MailGram machine at Walmart was not working.  The caller instructed me to go to my bank and take out whatever I had in my account and go the the nearest CVS store.  The police were following me all the way but they pulled me over to stop me from going to CVS before I could get the account information to wire the money to.  I was so afraid that if it wasn't a scam, something would happen to my daughter.  I beleived the story all along because I couldn't get ahold of my daughter or her boyfriend to find out if she was ok.

I just received a very similar call. We live in Maryland. Very upsetting because we have 3 adult children. The caller said there had been an accident and stated that one of our children asked him to call us. He stated that a "gun" had been seen, and his brother was running from the police. At that point I said that I needed to go get my husband involved.  The caller said he would call back. Haven't heard anything yet.

I got a similar call saying someone I knew was in a accident in Baltimore County.  I don't live in BC, I live in AA.  The guy gave up becuase I would not give him any information he could use.  My spouse also received a call from Mass but ignored it.  I should have done the same.  I googled my cell number and found it in a list of numbers for Belair MD which is Baltimore County.

I just got a call from this number.  First thing the person with an Hispanic accent asked was my name.  I don't give that info out to strangers.  He said something about an accident in Baltimore County and someone gave them my phone number.  I asked what number he was calling and he confirmed he was calling my number  so I told him that someone gave him the wrong number to call.  I think he sensed that I was not the droid he was looking for.  I googled the Mass number that appeared on my display and found this web site.

I just got a call from this number. They told me that someone I know who drives a 4-door sedan had been in an accident and given them my number. They claimed they were holding a gun to my dad's head, gave me a story about needing $2,000, and said that if I tried to call anyone else he would die. I Googled the number while the guy was telling me to walk to my car to go to the bank, and luckily this came up. A seriously f****d up way to try to get $2000.

This number called and an unprofessional sounding man said my wife was in an accident and gave this number. He kept fishing for information such as my wife's name and when I said I'm not giving anymore out until I know what is going on he hung up. When I called back he answered and I asked where this accident was he said Montgomery county which would be impossible.  He then said shemust have given the wrong number and hung up again. Scammer

Prank Call
Had a call from these guys about 5 hours ago.  He stated that there was a three car accident and that they were given my number to call.  I asked who, they said they didn't know but someone had hit their brother.  So I asked what cars were involved.  A car, a suv, and a pickup truck.  I asked what color the vehicles were, he said red, white, grey but wouldn't say which one belonged to which.  I asked what kind of pickup it was (Ford) and then what model.   "F-150, Dodge Ram, Ranger".  And that's when I got really suspicious.  Ford doesn't make Dodge Rams and why would you list out three different kinds of trucks like that?  He kept going around in circles without actually providing answers to my questions and his accent was just thick enough that it was frustrating trying to figure out what he was talking about.  I finally gave up and asked What the point of this call was, just to tell me someone had been in an accident?   He said yes, I thanked him and hung up.   I did verify the whereabouts of all of my family members afterwards and no problems.   Kinda wish I'd seen where this was going instead of hanging up.  Oh well.

They said someone I knew had been in an accident and his truck had hit theirs.  I told them my son drove a truck.  They said my phone number was on the cell phone of the person who had hit their car, and he was bleeding from the head and needed help. They said they didn't want to call the police because  the person who was hit by my acquaintance was running from the Mexican cartel.   I told them I was hanging up and calling my son.  They said to someone they were with "She's not going to hlep"   They tried to call back 5 times. Same thing is still happening - they are still using the same phone number.   I live in Phoenix AZ, and received a call from (978) 376-7327 from a caller with a slight hispanic accent. He first told me there had been in a car accident in Gilbert, Arizona with one of my family members.  There were three vehicles involved, a pickup, a four door car, and an SUV.  My partner works near Gilbert, and drives a 4-door, so I thought it was real at first and thought it was police calling me.  I panicked and volunteered the color/make/model of my partner's 4-door car.   He said yes.  The tone of the call shifted, and he then said the accident involved his brother who was a cartel member and if I called the cops or tried to call my partner's phone I would start hearing gunshots.   I demanded to speak to my partner but he refused.  He said I needed to get $1800 to fix his brother's car and take it to meet him at a Walmart.   At that point, I decided it was fraud and told him to f*** off.   I immediately called and confirmed that my partner was fine and he had not been in any accident.    At first I thought we were being victimized because we just returned yesterday from Mexico City and somehow had our information compromised.  But it sounds like it is happening for the last few months and not just in AZ.   I have filed complaint 2014-0031702 with the Phoenix Police Department.   If this happens to anyone else in Phoenix, I urge them to contact the police and add to the same complaint.  There are probably earlier complaints but the officer was not aware of them.

What an A**!!! I got the same kind of call from this man who sounds as if he is African and stated "Thank goodness you answered your phone"  I didn't know who he was and he went on to tell me that my parents were in a very bad car accident that his brother was involved with as well.  He stated that there were 3 cars involved and wanted my parents information I did not tell him anything just there names and he was telling me that they had both my parents held hostage and that he needed more information from me.  As I panicked and began to cry I hung up the phone the guy then called back,  but I did not answer and I then called my family to make sure everyone was okay.  This is NOT OKAY for someone to do to people and I'm reporting him to the police department NOW!!!! I also have Verizon so I'm not sure if this is why, but this needs to be stopped.
