They call me all the time, but get my voicemail. In my personal greeting I tell them that it is my own personal number and that they need to tell me what account they are calling about or who they are calling on behalf of, without going into specific detail (Ex. if they are calling about a debt I have with a hospital, all they have to say is "we're calling you on behalf of an account you had that was forwarded to us by the hospital"). If they just say a personal business matter or give a reference number, I will consider them to be a prank and ignore them! Only one other bill collector complied and I instantly called them right back! Stevens has yet to comply, so I have yet to call them back!

Was told to call this number to speak to someone about a personal matter.  Also came up 1-978-458-8336 and SBS on caller id.  Have no idea who this is.  Very annoying and harassing. Received numerous calls from this number.  After doing some research on internet, this is what I found:
Stevens Business Service, Inc.
92 Bolt Street, Suite #1
Lowell, MA 01852
T: 1-800-769-0375
T: 978-458-2500

Hope this might be of assistance.

My name an telephone number were added to a national moving company list, i.e., the database list which is accessed by Allied Movers, etc.  They said I was entered as 'moving to Virginia'.  I had no idea what they were talking about.  After the third or fourth call, I looked into who maintains this database.  When I found out it is open to anyone who wants to hire a mover.  I realized it was harassment, and I threatened the next caller from a moving company with a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.

A short time later I got a call from a 'Brewster Business Services'. Their message on my answer machine said that I had won a free all expenses, 10-day caribbean cruise with any cruise line I chose.  I did not respond.

Then the calls from Stevens Business Service (SBS) "personal business matter' started.  Thank God for the Internet and Google.  I looked up SBS up and found sites like this.  Of course, I did not respond.

Then came the ultimate winner for Bonehead of the Year.  The same guy who called about the 10-day caribbean cruise called again and left a message that filled my answer machine limit with some gobbledy-gook about home cleaning.

All this time the vandalism on my house accelerated:  they plowed snow I shoveled back into the sidewalk; they left 10 empty bottles of wine in my front yard; they threw apple cores at my head while I was in my back yard; they put tree branches in front of my driveway; they poisoned my lawn with weed killer; and last but not least they tried to set my house on fire by shooting bottle rocket into a tree in my back yard.

All this because I called America's Most Wanted (AMW) around 2003 with a tip about a big news murder case.  I thought I saw someone who fit their desription of the suspect: a dark complexioned man in a white compact car.  The AMW receptionist did not even take the tip.  She traced the call and sent the tape to the local police.  She was already reading tomorrow's headlines, and thought this was her ticket to FOX News.

Meanwhile, the sane, intelligent DA left office in 2006 and was lected to a higher office.  She was replaced by a DA who from all accounts 'goes to a battle of wits unarmed.'  The police official and city councillor found the new DA easlily persuaded and they were given the green light.  That's when all this nonsense accelerated.

After all this, I think the jerk at SBS should post his picture.  Not in answer to the question, "How stupid can you be?"  But, "What does a moron like this look like?"

Stormyweather,

The only stormy weather is up your a***.

Get a real job instead of hounding unsuspecting, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens.

To Those being Harassed:

Look in your past. Ask who could be after somethingyou've got.  I think certain low-life police and government officials in our Land O' the Free and the Brave, use this technique to hound their enemies.

They want something more than just money. Could be revenge.  Could be they want to drive you out of your house and pick it up on the cheap when you try to get away from the harassment.

Personally, I have a suspicion that a city councillor and a police official, incited some low IQ Ethnics in my area to vandalize my house continuously--all with the OK of the District Attorney.  I called the police to report a list of hostile behavior and vandalism and and they told me to 'call the police'.  (Hmmm, I thought that was what I was doing.)

I've heard of stranger conspiracies that turned out to be true.

I have been receiving calls from this number (978-458-8336) for a few months.  Usually they come in threes.  One where they identify themselves and in the next two they hang up before the message on the machine is finished.

I don't answer the phone anymore.  If someone wants to reach me he or she can leave a coherent message.

My wife pays all the bills and she has meticluous records.  If Stevens Business Service wants to extort some money from me they can send a clear and itemized bill.  Then, I can use that to bring charges against them with the FTC for using the Mail Service to commit fraud.

These people called me twice, but not recognizing the number, I didn't answer. I looked up their number on the internet and found out that it's supposedly a collection agency. Since I don't have any debts, I knew something was wrong. Don't answer if people from this number call you! They are pests!

CONSUMER INFO
Important information you should know when dealing with debt collectors and junk debts.

NEVER give a debt collector your banking information. They could take much more than you authorize, or even empty your account, then state that you gave them permission. It will end up being your word against there?s.

NEVER give a debt collector your credit/debit card information as the same holds true they could charge or take more than authorized, then state you gave them permission.

NEVER send a debt collector money via Western Union, Wal-Mart or any other source unless you have a letter from them, on their letterhead showing their name address, the account, the creditor and sign by management stating it represents payment in full or payment on your account. If not, they can later claim you did not pay, or missed an agreed upon time other common debt collector lies.

NEVER do anything based only on a phone call. Any legitimate collector should be willing to put agreements in writing BEFORE a payment is made. There are many legitimate collectors who act in an ethical and professional manner. Those who do not are usually the scammers out to take your money, with threats, extortion and lies.

NEVER Send money to a junk debt collector on a payday loan based on their claim that you committed a crime, or are about to be served a lawsuit. Payday loan collectors are the worst liars, con artists and extortionists in the industry. They cannot take legal actions, have no authority, which is why the resort to such drastic measures to scare you.

RECORD conversations with collectors (where legal) so they can be held accountable if they break the law.

BEWARE Paying a collector will NOT get anything removed from your credit report. Debt collectors do not have that ability and their lies about disputing it with credit bureaus after you pay them is not true, they are liars trying to take your money, most will say almost anything.

COLLECTION ATTORNEYS who collect debts make a large profit in almost every case when a lawsuit is filed and you do nothing about. You lose by default, they get legal fees, costs and commissions that average at least 25% of what they collect. That judgment allows them to empty your bank account at any time, garnish your wages, levy against your home and personal property, where allowed.

CONSUMER ATTORNEYS defend against these junk debt and bottom feeder suits, normally for a small percentage of what you will end up paying on a judgment.. The reason most are successful in getting junk debt cases dismissed is because the documents they use almost always contain hearsay, or lack credibility. In addition, once dismissed, the debt dies with the suit, no judgment in your credit files, no worries about having wages garnished or bank accounts seized.
We know some of the best consumer law professionals in America who can talk to you about your options if sued by a junk debt attorney. Let us know where you live, who filed the suit and we?ll try and refer you to someone close by.

CONSUMER LAW
Public Law 95-109, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), enacted by Congress to protect consumers from abusive and deceptive debt collection practices.
THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT MAKES IT ILLEGAL FOR COLLECTORS TO:
Imply that failure to pay the debt could result in arrest, imprisonment, or garnishment of wages
Call consumers at work when they know the consumers' employers prohibited such calls
Talk with third parties, including neighbors, children, and employers, for purposes other than acquiring location information about consumers, without consumers' consent
Cause the telephone to ring, or engage a person in telephone conversations, repeatedly or continuously, with the intent to annoy, abuse, or harass a consumer
Threaten to take action -- such as filing a lawsuit -- when they did not intend to do so
Call consumers at times or places that they knew or should have known were inconvenient
Fail to notify consumers of their right to dispute and obtain verification of their debts, and to obtain the name of the original creditor
Continue to try to collect debts after consumers disputed them in writing, and before verifying the debts
Use obscene or profane language
