a way to deal with these guys is to tell the telemarketer that you're a detective and they've just phoned the scene of a murder and are going to be investigated and that you're tracing the call as they speak. this will scare the s**t out of them and make them think twice.

BBB Warns Consumers of Robocalls Promising to Lower Their Credit Card Interest Rate
29 Jun 2009

Consumers across the U.S. and Canada are bombarded with phone calls promising to lower interest rates on their credit cards,. Not only are the calls violate U.S. and Canadian Do-Not-Call laws, but some companies behind the calls are ripping off consumers by charging large up-front fees to negotiate lower interest rates with credit card companies—something consumers can do on their own for free.

Robocalls generally begin with recorded messages that include statements like: 'This is our final attempt to reach you since you've not responded to our other calls to discuss your credit card debt.' The automated message invariably does not include the name of the company, but may claim to be with Card Services or Card Holder Services.

After the initial recorded message, consumers must dial another number to be connected to a live person, who in turn asks for the consumer’s credit card number. From there, the operator begins closing the sale, asking if the consumer is willing to pay – usually from $700 to $1,000 - to have their firm contact the credit card company and negotiate lower rates.

'The ‘negotiation’ undertaken by these companies can be as simple as calling the customer service number listed on the back of the consumer’s credit card and asking a customer service representative to lower the interest rate,' said Steve Cox, BBB spokesperson. 'Consumers are fully capable of talking to credit card companies on their own, for free, and getting similar results. Consumers simply don’t need to pay any company a thousand dollars to negotiate lower rates on their behalf.'

BBB has received numerous complaints about two Orlando-based companies, CSTR Solutions, Inc. and Genesis Capital Management, and one Tacoma-based company, Mutual Consolidated Savings. All are behind at least some of the robocalls and are promising to save people anywhere from $2,000 to $25,000 by negotiating lower interest rates with credit card companies.

According to BBB complaints, companies are also failing to uphold money-back guarantees and not refunding money in cases where they are unsuccessful in lowering rates.

I received a message from this number and they were wanting to negotiate a credit card consolidation with me. I only have ONE credit card.
I explained all that to them.... and they were still trying to get me to then negotiate on a lower interest rate...but it would cost me 179.99 to get it started. I promptly told them of my intentions of contacting the BBB and they hung up.

HAHA..!  geeze, people.

Do not under any circumstances give any personal information to Accelerated Savings Inc.  It is a scam!!!  The number that came up on our phone was 1 (321) 735-9688.  They gave us a website and a toll free number which is 1 -888-351-2551.

I can not believe in this day and age we do not have the technology to stop these annoying calls. I get several calls a day from the same three numbers. I am on the do not call list, but obviously this is not enough to stop the calls.

Just got a call from these jerks this morning.  Pressed '9' and the operator asked if I agreed to having my interest rate lowered.  I said 'no, but this was the only option to choose and I want to be put on your Do Not Call list'.  Then I waited for a response and there was none so I hung up.  A-holes waste my time!

Love the idea of blowing a really loud whistle in their ear.  Will keep one by my phone from now on!

I am going to buy a whistle and when I see their # pop up, I get my whistle and blow really hard into the phone mouthpiece.  Let us see how many of them will like that!  If you meet anyone who has a bad hearing on one ear, they could be working for a telemarketer that just made a call to me.  He! He!

DO NOT PRESS '9'.  In phonespeak, '9' means "yes".  If you press'9' you have just agreed to something.

I made this mistake with the other robocaller offering freecruises.  (Fortunately, that one seems to have died.)  If you press '9' then they can charge money to your phone bill.  Don't do this.

I am Canadian and don't know anybody in Massachusetts.
Just got a call that appears to originate from this number.  I've been dealing with these ROBOCALLS- spam- crap- telespam- whatever you want to call it, for months now. These guys are smart, and the phone numbers that appear on your display have been spoofed. These are not the actual numbers that they are calling from.
What DOESN'T WORK: a) Pressing "3" to be removed from their list.
b)Pressing "1" to speak to an agent and asking them to remove you from their list.  c)Calling the number back and pressing "1" or " 2" or whatever number they ask you to, to have you removed from your list.  ALL THREE OF THESE OPTIONS ONLY RESULT IN HAVING YOUR NUMBER ADDED BACK ON TO THE LIST-- and usually result in even more calls from them.
What DOES WORK (or at least reduces the number of calls you get from them): a) Don't answer the call at all and let your answering machine take it. b) If you MUST answer it, do NOT say anything-- NOTHING. Their machine is set up so the message kicks in as soon as they hear a human voice. Put the receiver down without hanging up and walk away. Leave it for at least two minutes.  c) As soon as you hear the automated message kick in, press the "#" button on your phone about 30-40 times, roughly a half second apart. Then put the receiver down without hanging up and leave it for two-five minutes.  What this does is disrupts their auto-dialer and phone system for several minutes, and also generates an error message at their end saying that your phone number is not valid. After three unsuccessful tries to reach you, they will delete your number from their spam list.
Another one of the company names these scammers claim to operate under is MJ Accelerated Services.
There are a slew of websites out there that are dedicated to shutting down " Rachel" and " Michael" and the unnamed one as well. Just enter "Rachel from Cardholder Services" or "Michael from cardholder services" in your search engine and you're off and running.
I agree that both the Canadian and US governments really need to find a way to put an end to these calls once and for all. They are clearly illegal in both countries.
How can you make them stop? You can't! But you can at the very least, reduce the number of calls you get from them.
 cheers

Just got yet another robocall (technically known as an ADAD), which is illegal in Canada. Usually, I just find them in my voice mail. Today, I was home & answered the call. The ADAD just tells you to press 9 to talk to an agent. Under Canadian law, there should also be an option to be removed from the list. There wasn't one. I pressed 9 & got an agent. She sounded Afro-American. I demanded to know why they'd called me, since I'm on the Do Not Call List. She told me not to curse at her & muted her line. It took a further 30 seconds for the phone to hang up & clear my line. This delay is illegal under Canadian & US laws. The line must clear within 5 seconds.  I did a *69, & determined the last number that called my line was this one. Am now filing complaints with the CRTC, FCC, Phonebusters, & RCMP.

What they do.. is they close your account, without telling you, and then start charging exhoberant rates to pay off your card... it is a scam, and they have been shut down before.. they just move to a new town, and set up shop.

They just called and I blocked them.  See if your phone provider has this service to block unwanted calls.  With my carrier I just hit *60 then follow the prompts.  If they try calling again, they will receive a recording advising them that the party they are trying to reach is not accepting calls from this #.  My phone will not ring.

These asswads just called me as well.  Not only that they've called several times this week.  I usually ignore the calls but I was in a dead sleep and at 9:30am sharp the phone rings firing me clean out of sleep whether I answer the phone or not.  There's got to be a way to get these people, and I mean really GET them! Suggestions?  Between the calls for a free cruise to the Bahamas and the interest rate lowering I'm gettin' pretty pissed.

Got a call from this number just 15min ago didn't answer on phone, they didn't leave a message. I hate these robocall companies based in the states promising you whatever they are selling would improve you in any sense of a word. When you tell them that you are not interested or dont have a card they are rude, impolite and hang-up on you. I wish whomever that was on the other end was in front of me so I could bash their face in. Nobody needs their services they could ask their credit card companies themselves for a lower interest rate. These companies prey on the less-informed public seniors for example. I hope these companies realize that nobody wants their help and the unwarranted calls are pissing people off. I have also gotten calls from other numbers also
804-518-2490
603-214-3648
there maybe others but these are the ones that I have on my Call-ID
I'm fed up with these ROBOCALL B***S**T and the Canadian and U.S. government should put a stop to this. (but they don't and wont)

EVERY TIME I ask these clowns to take me off their calling list, they HANG UP on me.  This has happened 5 times in the last week alone.  They are calling as late as 9pm and sometimes two or three times a day.

Someone PLEASE tell me who to report these jerks to, and why they aren't obligated to remove my name from their list.

Thanks to feduptothegills for the information above.  Am in Ottawa, Canada and received my first call from this number at 9:33 July 1.  I thought it must be a scam when I first saw the
number because it is a national holiday in Canada, and our own
