I didn't answer. I'm not surprised to read the above comment since I've been getting multiple calls daily for car warranty from many different numbers (I know from this website).

I receive one call a day from this number. It is a recorded message for extended car warrenty which i do not want. I no longer pick up when they call.

How to best combat whatever scam?
Leave it to the answering machine. NO CHARGE on your phone bill.
The ONLY way to combat greedy phony companies, and the other scum that's out there. Obviously with SKYPE and VOIPE gaining popularity, the phone companies have seen their profits shrink dramatically.
Don't pick up that phone.

WE ARE ALL MISSING THE POINT.
why do we receive endless calls with nobody or near-illiterates at the other end? Why does the other end often NOT TALK, REPLY? Simple. It's a computer dialling the number. Or some poor sod who's dialling numbers like a little robot all day long for peanuts. Telemarketing? NO. Scam Artists? Some, yes. But lately, the calls are hooked up to VOICE driven software programmes controlled by computers. In any case, almost all the calls I receive seem to carry no apparent reason, other than making me PICK UP THAT PHONE. Why? Simple. Charges. Every time I pick up the phone, there's a 7 cent charge on my bill. If I am not carefull or totally defensive, it adds up to 5 to 15 bucks a month. Multiply that by 100 million calls every day - you get the picture. How to increase the profit? Employ idiots that dial numbers all day long, or much more efficient, run computers that can dial a number every 30 seconds. Phone companies are none different than anti virus and firewall software manufacturers. They employ their own hackers to design new malware just to make sure we subscribe to their latest anti-virus and firewall products.
Sure, there are plenty of scam artists out there, ID theft and so forth. But latelely, the surge of seemingless idiotic calls, sometimes dozens a day, with nobody at the other end, clearly indicate, that phone companies have resorted to similar criminal elements, in order to increase their profit margins.

Received a call on my AT&T wireless phone on 4/7/09 at 10:24am EST. Did not recognize the number, so did not pick up.

I keep getting the same call. I have even pressed the option for them to quit calling. It doesn't work. I actually stayed on the line tonight for a representative and as soon as he got on the line, he gave his little introduction, name was Jeff, then hung up. I've tried to call back and only get a busy signal.

Am getting daily calls on both cell and land line imploring me to let them extend my car warranty. My car is a 94 model. Warranty?! Ya gotta be kidding me! Total scam!
I tell em to remove me from their list & they just hang up in my face.
I call them back & only get a busy signal.
Bloody telemarketing has been reborn!

I am getting calls from 978-570-2366. Very annoying and following directions to be taken off of their list don't work. Why isn't there a way to block these calls!
| Rix 2009-02-10 20:38:03 Telemarketer |
Don't bother to call thesse guys back. That will just verify that your phone number is an active number and the autodialer they use will continue to dial and leave messages.

I didn't get this number, but an "extension": 978-570-2200. Female-voiced recording about "your final notification." I have no cars under warranty. From browsing, it looks like somebody's reported 978-570-2212 as well.

Several cell phone calls - no message. Have also had numerous attempts to contact me through the mail regarding car warranty expiration. I also tried pushing whatever number (1? 2?) to get me off the list - so that clearly is not their intention.

I get these calls several times a week. It's always a recorded message about a car warranty. Never have called the number back as I always treat these type of calls as SPAM solictations. I have placed my number on the Do Not Call Registery as well.

I have been receiving these calls since day I got into the car accident. The insurance company of the lady who hit me (Degginger McIntosh & Associates) called and got my information. About 20 minutes later after hanging up with the company agent, I start receiving these phone calls. Before the accident, I had NO problems with my phone. I am tired of this.

SOMEONE must be falling for these stupid scams otherwise they would have given up by now. I've been getting these since Jan 11th. Please report every single call you get to the FCC if you want these people shut down.
| Sharky 2008-02-08 01:10:57 Unknown |
I never answered any of these... but they are all listed somewhere on the Internet to some scam auto warranty from what I can determine. Some people try to argue with them only to be hung up on, and others register with the FCC Do Not Call list. None of these will do any good. The only recourse appears to be to change your phone number. I got one voice mail that was a recording and it sounded just like a telemarketing scam.
You have legal rights since a recording, to my understanding, is illegal, but you should not expect anyone will be eager to enforce it. Clearly they have found a way to keep changing their Caller ID conveniently. But the sounds of the remarks people have reported, you are definitely dealing with confidence artists. I have not doubt that who ever it is, any acknowledgement or information you provide will only compromise your personal integity.
My suggestion? Try the media (newspaper, radio, or television) particularly if you can predict the next call so the reporter can experience, and possibly record, the call message.
