GRMOTE at #978 570 2417 has called several times.  Usually calls no more than two times a day.  Unknown callers are not answered and this number has left no messages

just received call from

(978) 570-2417  Phone ID said:  GRMQTE
Person calling said they were calling from the Diabetes Protection League.
I told him I had previously asked to be removed from their data base and I am also on the National Do Not Call Registry.  He apologized and said he would remove my number.
This has happened before and I am still getting unwanted calls - I do not know who this organization is or why they are calling me.  I just want the calls to stop.

Stop these repeated calls.  There is a reason they are not answered.  A law suit for harrassment is appropriate.

This was most helpful info I saw:  if you call the number back an automated message will ask you if you want to be taken off their list. To sign up justpress 1 and it will put you on their do-not-call list. Thats what I just did.

These people call at different days and don't let the phone go to voice mail.  The caller ID is GRMQTE.  I don't know who or what they are but I don't answer.

Simple solution to the problem: I NEVER answer the phone. I just go through my list of messages and delete those that don't interest me, which is 99% of them. Caller ID is great, too. After awhile, they get tired of hearing MY voice in my recording, or, when I turn even THAT off, all they hear is the phone ringing and ringing and ringing...'cause NEVER is a very long time. :-)

WE can't take your name off of any calling list. We don't have any calling lists.

You gave us a name, but most telemarketers need the phone number. You wisely omitted that. After all, we can't do anything with it, anyway.

Using up minutes on cell phones is exactly why telemarketing calls to cells without prior permission is illegal. But, we're not doing it. The callers are. They don't read this, and you didn't give them enough information, even if they do.

I'm sure you will "fine" a way "ot" cause us problems. Like, by wasting our time (More valuable than your cell phone minutes.) with clueless and unhelpful postings.

If you answer enough of these to think the calls sound like the same person each time, why haven't you gotten some real -- some useful -- information from them?

Exactly who are they? Word by word, letter by letter, did you get the name?

Where are they located?

Do they have a real call-back number?

Two of your conclusions are probably invalid. As in, never were valid, never will be valid, and silly that you would post them.

First, it is true that some companies use a series of numbers. This is generally because they have multiple lines and lack the equipment to have CID display one number all of the time.

It is also true that they use a variety of ruses to avoid being caught for DNC violations.

However, it is more likely that you're getting a variety of calls from a variety of numbers in assorted different states because THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPANIES!!!

That "sounds like the same person" is probably because you don't listen fast enough, and you don't ask questions, and you don't gather useful information, so each time you hear "diabetic" somewhere in the spiel, you just leap off a cliff of foolishness into a sea of silly ideas.

Second, and even more significant: These people do not get legitimate information! Unless they ask for a specific individual who does have diabetes, that whole idea is just a waste of time for anyone who takes your advice . . . and their doctor's employees . . . and diabetic supply companies . . . and etc. No reason to call any of them because they had nothing to do with these calls.

After all, if someone had called people saying, "Could I speak to (person with diabetes), this is [telemarketer] and Dr. {whoever}  . . .  blah, blah, blah." then we'd be reading about that kind of thing all over the place.

How stupid do you think diabetic supply companies are? Why would they give their competitors any information about their customers? Nobody is illegally passing out information.

If you've paid attention to posts about this number . . . and all the other numbers you got calls from . . . you know that they often call households where there are no diabetics. Why would a doctor, supply company, etc. give out information about non-diabetics? Same reason they don't give out any information of that sort about any of their patients/customers/etc.

These people are making random phone calls. The lists may be based on some kind of public records like voter lists or other databases on the Internet, and targeted at older people who tend to have a higher incidence of diabetes, but they are just general lists if they use any at all. Even when they know someone's name, check it out: Look on the Internet. You'll find that you or your house, your neighbor or their house, your Aunt Matilda or her house three states over, and all kinds of people and houses in between are listed, along with other residents of the same household, their parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren who may not live with them. You'll find their ages and all kinds of other specific information which identifies them.

Next time you present your musings on such things, maybe muddling through to more accurate ideas would be appropriate first.

What's even more annoying is people who:
1) Use all caps . . . especially when they're "Hollering At Us" about nothing.
2) Waste our time and 800Notes bandwidth whining about something which we all already know:
- - - -  These people call
- - - - They often call several times a day
- - - It is very annoying.

Slightly more annoying are the folks who post stuff here as if the callers will ever read the message. Things like, "Stop calling!" How stupid. If you're going to post something like that, how would the caller know who you are, unless you include your phone number?

Sorry, but *77 only applies to calls where the caller has BLOCKED their caller ID information. Doesn't help if they have a bogus/disconnected/spoofed number. For me, at least, it doesn't even help if they have no Caller ID information, at all -- no number, no name, only "UNIDENTIFIED" in the CID display.

This number has called my phone many dozens of times over the last several weeks.  Of course, I do not answer.  The calls sometimes come late in the evening, which makes it obvious that someone is up to no good.

I have my phone programmed so that it only rings when particular numbers call.

The 978 number shows up on the called ID under Missed Calls.
