The callers are the drug-addicted "card services" scammers, who call us, pretending to be associated with our credit card companies, in an attempt to fool us into giving them our credit card numbers so they can rip us off. People that have given their card number to these junkies have suffered severe financial losses. Beware of these lowlifes, and warn others, before they are cheated!

Didn't answer. Wasn't hungry.
Very happy I didn't answer after reading these posts. Thank you all for reporting.

I got a call from a guy claiming he works with my credit card company, and they will lower my rate. He said he needed to verify some information and then he was going to transfer me to a financial advisor. He then asked me to verify the expiration date on my card. I got suspicious. I started asking questions, like why would I speak with a financial advisor, if they can provide my card number and other details, who they are, etc. I wanted to verify their identity. He kept insisting that if I provide my expiration date and other security info to them, they can't use it for fraud, because that's not how it works. I said that's exactly how it works. Finally he said, let me transfer you to a supervisor. Less than a second later, I was talking to the supervisor, who had an even heavier accent than the first guy. We all know in real world customer service, the supervisor is not hanging over each employee's head ready to take a call.
After further probing, they simply hung up on me. Then I called my card's customer service, and they verified they never negotiate rates over phone. If a customer is eligible for a rate decrease, they send a letter, not calls or emails.
BEWARE!

Thanks to everyone who reports their info here. Just received the call from Mid East Bakery and blocked it on my home phone (actual panasonic phone does this, not the phone service). I don't even have credit cards. I too think it's a good practice not to answer calls from unknown numbers.

Recorded message about lowering interest rate on your credit card. I pressed 1 to speak to a representative. A man with a thick accent answers ready with his scam to get my information, I'm sure. I interrupted to say, "who is this and why are you calling me?" He responds saying he's calling to reduce my interest rate and he's with MasterCard, Visa, Bank of America, Chase, Citi... and mentions every major bank or credit card company he can think of and continues trying to speak fast in his (probably exaggerated) thick Indian accent. I said, "Actually, I'm not interested. I'm trying to figure out how you got my number and how to avoid future calls," not realizing that he had already hung up by the time I finished that statement.

Answered the phone, listened to the recording about lowering the interest rate on my cc. Pressed 1 to speak with someone only to get more info. A female voice greeted me but when I asked who was calling, there was an immediate disconnect. Tried to register a complaint with the National Do Not Call List only to discover that due to the government shut down, THEY ARE CLOSED AND NOT ABLE TO PROCESS COMPLAINTS AT THIS TIME. SCREW THE DAMNED TEA PARTY. MAY THEY ALL REST IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scam re: lowering credit card rate
| MoMo 2013-10-07 12:42:08 Unknown |
How could anyone who hadn't ALREADY pirated my personal information know what my credit rates are or even if I have any debt? My credit rates are just peachy thanks. Caller blocked.

Didn't answer this call. They left no message - if it were important they would have left a message. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize and/or aren't saved in my phone. It's also my experience that credit card companies send letters to offer lower interest rates on your card, not phone you. Also, my CC situation is such that offering me a lower rate doesn't make sense - idiots looking to prey on those not paying attention.

Called, left no message. Caller ID says Mid East Bakery.

Another one of the spoofed numbers used by the "card services" scammers in their attempts to rip us off. Google my name to learn how to stop their annoying calls, while also having some fun!

Second call today from a scammer. When they talked about my credit card I told them that I was 17 (I'm not) and that I was too young to have a credit card I got an "uuuuuummmmm" and then they hung up. The first call I pretended that I couldn't speak English. They also hung up.

Didn't answer the call. They didn't leave a message. But thanks to you all I know what it was. Scamming idiots.

Said they were calling on behalf of my credit card company (without naming the company). Said that everything was all right with my account, but to press 1 to find out how to lower my interest rate. Called twice before without leaving a message.

I happened to pick up the phone, as I was expecting another call; however, as I looked at the caller ID, I saw Mid East Bakery. Someone started speaking about and account. I just hung up immediately and blocked that area code and prefix. Since it is from some strange area code anyway, combined with the person starting to talk about accounts, I already know that this is just another scam, where huckster attempt to defraud people of their money. The most attention that those phonies will get from me is my hanging up on them. I also report them and post blogs, such as at this stir, to warn others.

hang-up call. the only saving grace: when they're running this scam, they're probably not out on the streets, robbing people of their iphones and wallets. prisons here are full to overcrowding, so if it keeps them off the streets, I don't mind.
