Just received a call from said number!  Frustrating since I just complted a call with my son (coindently, attending UMass).  Thought it might be him getting back to me.  Tried calling the 978-883-9988 number but received recording stating number could not be dialed.  hmmmmm

This is a new number used by the same recorded Spanish language scammers that call from 318-998-9988.

Received call on 5/27/09 Didn't answer but Googled it for other recordings and its some Spanish scam. really annoying around dinner time

Do NOT call back, do NOT press 1 or they might be able to charge calls to your number.  Definitely a scam

I'm in Tennessee, USA, & got this call on my cell phone earlier today.  I did not answer because I do not answer calls from unknown numbers.  I hope they do not call again.

I just got a call from 978 883 9988 at 12:30 am in Barrie Ontario, Canada. picked up the phone, message ending, tried calling back and unable to reach.

Called this afternoon on my Canadian rogers cell. Didn't pick up, and glad I didn't. No voicemail left.

Just received this call 19788839988 on my cell, I did not pick up the call cos I don't want to waste my minute to ans the unknown caller.  So far the previous reports can tell me that I did make wise choice to reject this call.  Thanks for those who posted this before.

I JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER AND I DECIDED TO GOOGLE AND ALL THIS CAME OUT. I HOPE THIS NUMBER DON'T CALLING ME AGAIN.

Same as from everyone else.  Recorded muffled message from a Spanish speaking operator, they never leave a message.  The call is only completed if you answer the call.  Other numbers calling me that are exactly the same message are:  208-209-6789.  479-880-9988.

When you call the numbers back, you get a disconnected or out of service recording.  I have tracked down the carriers of all of these numbers and contacted them in their perspective States.  They all say that it is their number but it is out of service and could not have contacted me.

My research is showing that these calls are obviously coming from Auto Dialers which are illegal.  They are also obviously coming from outside of the United States.  The calling system or the telephone numbering system and calling code in the U.S. is based on a 10 digit system with the number 1 denoting that the calls is for inside the United States.  All other Countries have a two digit calling code.  Because our calling system is a 10 digit system and all of our caller ID's are on that same system, we are not seeing the entire number that is caling us.  We are only seeing the last 10 digits.  Therefore when we try to reverse the numbers or call them back, we are not able to do so because we have an incomplete number.

I was told by Verizon that they will change my number for free, or they will or can block one phone number for up to 60 days. These may be a temporary resolution but not at all what any of us wants to do.  They also urged me to contact the local law enforcement so that there is a legal log.  Register your numbers on the do not call list at donotcall.gov.  None of these things will prevent it form happening but it appears that this is all we can do until someone investigates this further and stops it.  The stories that I have seen on the net that are a result of these calls range from harrassment to cosing thousands of dollars.

How can we stop this????

I received a call from this number yesterday May 12,2008, NO MESSAGE.

This number left on my cell phone, while I was away from it. According to cell message, this number called five times on May 12TH.

they (it)left no message on my answering machine....I tried to call back and a recorded message told me my call can not be completed....GRRRRRRRRR

Luckily I have relaticves in MA (where it seemed to come form) and when I got it it was too late to call. I do not call numbers that duak my cell unless I know who they are. I am glad I looked it up because a friend just sent something about a telephone number and getting scammed for a bill of about 24.95 dollars. I junked tyhe mail but decided to look this number up. Google brought =me to here.

They called my cell phone which is on the do not call list.  I am going to file a complaint but I doubt it will do much good.  They did not leave a message.

Received 5/12 on DC metro area cell # at 2:38 p.m.   No se habla espanol here.  The people doing their hit list apparently are not too bright, or they are using a sequential dialer.
