Received message on my cell from IRS Agent Eric Foster with a threatening voice and foreign accent. Knew it was a scam and these posts only serve to confirm. Add to REJECT list!

I too received a call from this number an hour ago. The rude man with an Indian accent identified himself as an IRS Agent and wanted my lawyers contact information. I told him that I didn't receive anything in the mail from the IRS to which he gave my address and told me that it doesn't matter if I claim I didn't receive it that the case was under investigation and that he needed my lawyers information. I asked him for his name, which he gave the name Alex Relium, and I asked for his identification number. At that point he said would you like to speak to my supervisor and transferred me into silence. The "supervisor" attempted to call back on the same number and the connection was so bad I could barely hear the moron say hello. It's clearly a VOIP number even the original call was not a Chrystal clear connection you get with any government agency.
What a pathetic operation they have. Sad thing is even an idiot wolf catches a lamb once in a while. My guess is it will be a scared legal immigrant who doesn't want to get in trouble is their primary victim. What scum!

At first I couldn't figure out his accent, but when he said "time sensitive", the way he pronounced sensitive sounded European. There are a lot of scammers in the Ukraine.
DJ 2014-05-08 17:25:44 Unknown
The "Eric Foster" who called me sounded like a European.
DJ 2014-05-08 17:23:57 Unknown
It was not a prank call. It's a scam to get you to send them money.
DJ 2014-05-08 17:22:30 Unknown
The "Eric Foster" who called me did not have an American accent. He sounded European to me.
DJ 2014-05-08 15:48:42 Unknown
I just got the same call again.
DJ 2014-05-08 14:44:41 Unknown
That's a good one!

I just got a phone call that showed it was from Freeport,TX. It sounded like a recording, and some guy with an accent that sounded familiar but I can?t place said he was an IRS agent and that either I or my attorney need to call him . He says, ?If I don?t hear from you or your attorney, the only thing I can do is wish you good luck as the situation unfolds on you?. Ooooooohhhh, I?m shaking in my boots. THE IRS DOES NOT CALL PEOPLE ON THE PHONE YOU MORON! I wish I could figure out his accent. It?s one I?ve heard before, but it?s not Hispanic. It sounded European. The call probably didn?t even come from Texas.
DJ 2014-05-08 14:35:04 Unknown
I think that you and I are the only people on the planet who know when to use "me". That drives me nuts, and I yell at the idiots on TV all the time when they say things like "between you and I" or " just you and I" or "for you and I".
.
DJ 2014-05-08 14:29:33 Unknown
I just got the same call from "Eric Foster". I stood there and laughed while he (a recording?) left a message on my answering machine. Then I called my accountant so he could have a good laugh too.
Ellen 2014-05-06 17:40:35 Unknown
We had this same call from 1 person, calling 2 times with different names and different accents

An Agent Eric Foster from the IRS saying that I or my attorney of record must call him back immediatly at 979-705-5130. Definate accent but I could not here background noise. He claimed that I need to call him back right away or I would be placed on the "list of black" as the situation unfolds.

This morning I got a call from this number, 1-979-705-5130. An Agent Eric Foster from the IRS with a New York, New Jersey accent threatened me with IRS liens and jail time. I never give my personal information over the phone so I hung up. It was very scary but something told me it was a scam.
shelley 2014-05-05 19:31:01 Unknown
I did too, like 10 minutes ago
srb 2014-05-05 18:25:08 Unknown
I received 3 calls from this number. After the third call I simply said please hold while I transfer you to our local FBI office. Shocker, they hung up on me before I could transfer them. That was the last call I have received.
I also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission using this link: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Information#crnt&panel1-1

The connection was so bad.
Thanks for this post.

The caller claiming to be an IRS agent named Eric Foster called and left a message on our answering machine, saying that if we or our attorney did not call back right away there will be serious consequences. We had previously also received similar calls but today the guy actually recorded the message on our answering machine. I tried to call the IRS as well as Treasury Dept's Inspector General's Office to report this but did not suceed. I am surprised that this scammer is doing this to so many people and our fovernment is not able to trace the scammer.

"He gave I a good laugh" gave me a good laugh!
It should be "He gave my husband and ME a good laugh."
...but you have the right attitude about these idiotic scammers - ...worth nearly a laugh!
The caller is trying to scare people so they can take advantage them. Ignore them.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country. We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves. Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

'officer eric foster' left a voicemail on our phone from wednesday. saying he was from the irs and when we received this meesage that we need to have an attorney or friend with us to deal with it. that it was time sensitive and that if we dont call soon he wishes us luck with the aftermath. never once referred to who he was calling for and he left a number. had to replay message several times as he spoke fast with an asian accent. lots of static noise which occured to me was odd. i called the number and it went to voicemail to a girl name kelly. i got suspicious and googled the number to find out it was a scam. i've reported this to the legit IRS and FTC
