Ruthless, use multiple numbers but not all with area codes using 979. Calls about "Windows Repair" coming from 723-492-5667, 451-667-5888, & 239-214-2664. Blocked all but expect more calls & will continue to block. DNC is useless.

I've received 3 calls from this number in the last 3 days. The guy has a heavy Indian accent and is calling about my 'Windows computer' and when I ask which computer that is, he says 'the one you use that has Windows on it'. I tell him I don't use Windows and he hangs up.

Someone from a tech magazine went along with it. They ask you to enter into a section of your computer that shows a lot of stuff and they quote this to you saying they are errors. They then get you to download team viewer and then they take over your computer. There is then a request to send them cash, if refuse they then start deleting critical files on your computer faster than you can think to pull the plug and crash your computer. You then get a rude message before they disconnect leaving your computer a mess. :/

I was expecting a call from Texas so I answered. Big mistake. Indian guy, said his name was Mark Adams from Microsoft. Since all my AOL and Dell techs used fake names, and he showed me some very authentic credentials, I fell for it. He got control of my computers for about a minute until I realized what was going on. I shut down one in time, but he put a password on my laptop. I hung up. He kept calling back and leaving a message that if I didn't answer my computer would no longer work. His scam is to lock up your computer and then sell you a fix. Luckily the Microsoft store removes viruses and reloads your windows for free. It took a week, but I didn't lose any data. I had to reinstall most of my programs though. Solutions: 1: Don't answer these calls. Microsoft, Dell, AOL and most others don't call you first. 2nd: Set up an administrator account that you actually never use except when updating your programs. Use guest or other log-in accounts when you surf the internet or fall for calls like this. 3rd. If you have other log-ins you can get back into your computer and restore back to a different date, then run and rerun virus scans. Luckily I called Microsoft. My computer actually runs better now, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Received at least 30 calls from this number in the last few days, never leave a message, no one responds when greeted.

979-823-4073 called. Yes, I wonder as well how they can have a message of "number not in service" when we have called the number back; sooooo very strange!!! I have never called any of them back since that. Get a Panasonic phone (good price from Costco); we can block so many of these dorky calls and after they know they are blocked after a few times they just give up. It only rings about 1/2 of a ring and in to BLOCK MODE it goes, PRAISE GOD!!!!! Some of these dorks could be calling from across the world and then try to change your phone service to theirs (heard about this happening several years ago; think that got nipped in the bud finally) after one answers the phone; we do not answer ANY that we do not recognize. Some could even be calling to see if any one is home or lives in the home; SHADY CHARACTERS!!! Best to you all!!! Let's irritate them to the point they no longer bother us!!!

got 6 phone calls from this number in one evening (979-823-4073). The first time I asked that they remove me from their "call list" - explained I was on the registry for "donotcall" and they hung up. Thereafter, they just called and hung up when I answered. The only indicator is "Texas." When I went to "donotcall.gov," they refused to accept the complaint because it was not a registered number - isn't that just like the government?.....

That is funny - I just hung up on him and he called back and I got his number and emailed Verizon - they could not find anything - can Microsoft find this guy - or FBI can set up a scam to set him up - not the brightest tool in the shed for sure - reverse directory shows the number is from Bryan/College Station Texas - emailed local station about this

Saying there was a problem with my Windows computer, a male with a heavy middle east accent attempted to access my computer remotely. He told me to press the control key and the letter R, which I did not do and hung up. He has called back twice. I recorded the caller id phone number and googled it and found it to be a scam. Don't answer the calls or do what they say.

I keep getting calls from this line. It's unidentified, so I don't answer. No message is ever left. I just got 2 calls in the last hour!

Got a call during the day. Called back thinking it was emergency. I dontl get calls in the day from strange numbers. Number was disconnected. Same scenarios as those above already stated.

Well, fortunately my call, from this number, didn't come late at night. I got it 10 minutes, ago, 12:39PM, EDT. I'm sure the Texas location is spoofed. It's about time to complain to the Indian embassy with a link to this blog. It seems that a vast majority of the scams are originating from there. PLEASE, people, don't answer you phones, especially those of you who know better and want to "play" with these idiots. It only spurs them on.

Constantly getting calls late at night and early morning! Annoying ! I've tried calling them back and I receive a message that the number has been disconnected. When I answer no one is there. Sometimes I get the message:"good bye."
How can I stop these calls from Bryant, TX? They have become more frequent and interfere with our sleep!

The computer scammer did not want to admit to you he was a raghead, calling fro Bombay or Calcutta, trying to rip you off. Once he got access to your computer, the problems for you would just be starting!

I just received a call from a man identifying himself as calling from the "Technical Department of Windows" claiming that my computer was hacked into and Windows was calling clients to advise them of this and clear up the problem. When I asked him again exactly where he was calling from he got somewhat irritated. I told him I would call Windows back directly to resolve the apparent problem. When I dialed the number 979-823-4073, a recording said that the number was no longer in service. I then proceeded to do a number look up and got to this site. This is obviously a scam.

I got a call from an India sounding man from Windows, saying that my computer was generating error messages. This was my second call like this this week, though I don't know know where the first call came from. In my first call I just kept saying to him, "I don't understand you." But this time , I was going to play along with this dude. He told be to press the control key and R, then the Window Key. Of course I didn't do this. He would ask me what came up, and I would say nothing showed up. He wanted me to go to the start menu. I said I don't see any. Ask me what browser I used. then I could hear him rattlling through some pages. Then I hanged up.

The heavily accented dude must be having a bad day. I strung him along for about ten minutes. He tried to claim that all seven (heh) of my computers had the same "infection" that was neither a virus or malware, so none of my security software could save me from it. Kept insisting that I needed to be in front of the computer. When I asked him if I needed to turn it on, I could hear the contempt in his voice. Finally told him I was tired of playing with him, said I was an MCSA and knew more about computers than he did, and that I was now going to put a special code in my phone that would report his number and location to the police and the FBI. Then I hit a bunch of keys, laughed at him, and hung up. He tried calling me back several times but I had already blocked his number. What fun I had lying! Except I really am an Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator.

After 4 calls I didnt answer and they didnt leave a message i finally got annoyed enough to answer this call. It was some indian sounding guy telling me that they have noticed I have downloaded stuff to my pc lately that may result in spyware and of course he can sell me something to fix it. And since i was rather annoyed I did drag the call out with questions such as ... Oh do you work for my isp and if so who is it? and how exactly can you see what ive downloaded lately since you dont know who my isp is? ugh finally got him annoyed enough to hang up on me ....

I also got a call from a guy with a really heavy accent (I couldn't understand what alleged organization he said he was calling from). He asked about cable service. I said I already had cable, and asked him to take me off the list. He said "I know. You have Comcast, right?" Nope. "AT&T or Verizon?" No, stop calling. And I hung up. You would think they would at least try to figure out what internet providers are available in what areas...
