I have just gotten a call from that # 981-234-5673 and didnt answer it and did  a reverse # check and it told me the area code is not valid. I am glad I didnt pick up the phone after reading all the above comments

I found 981 area code is from Santiage De Compostela Spain.

Didn't get the phone in time to answer so I looked up the number quickly and found this thread. More than likely it was someone from India (with Microsoft)  as they have been making a lot of calls around here lately. My brother got one a couple days ago and he asked them what operating system he was running but they couldn't tell him. He told them that they were a scam and a few other choice words which made them swear at him.  He then told them to stick their head up their a$$ and fight for air and hung up.   Too bad there isn't a way to send a large voltage spike back down the line to their destroy their equipment.

I missed the call from 981-234-5673!  I wish they would call back so I could have some fun with him.

Just got a call from this number 981-234-5673  he thought I was my husband and when he started to mention computer I just hung up on him.  I wish we could put an end to all these calls.

Recieved the call at 5 30 Jan 9th from this number.

Number shows up as 981-234-5673 Told me they were from Microsoft and tried to have me download a trojan from their website to "fix" my computer.

I told him I would pray to God and ask forgiveness for his lying and attempts to trick the naive and elderly. He hung up. I prayed anyway.

@Malt I think they're trying to get access to financial information or something by getting access to your computer.

Number 981-234-5673 called and hung twice.  Phising for valid numbers maybe?

The guy says he's from Comantra.  After a little digging I found something from the Microsoft website saying they used to be affiliated, but not anymore.  I asked him fro his number and he gave me a differet number with a 281 area code (Texas I think?).  Anyway definite scam.

I said "I have viruses, trojans, AIDS, warts, and my drive is floppy. Can you help me?". They hung up.

Just got another call from these idiots. Yes they are in India, and they claim to be from Microsoft, and that they have just run a scan of your computer.. claiming they have found a very dangerous Virus.
I asked when they ran the scan, he claimed just recently. When I asked how he did it, seeing as my firewall is up.. he stammered out something about trusting him, it has a virus.
Told him to go take a flying F@ck through a rolling donught. He told me to turn on my computer..so I hung up.

Rec'd call saying they were from Windows and wanted to fix a virus problem

I got this call to fix a problem i had with my microsoft program   said he would fix it for me  I said oh-no Help me please  I tried to play along  as I had heard of this scam  kept him on the line for a while   very hard to understand   hung up    he called back  three times  last call my son answered  and said he could not speak punjabi  and the guy swore at him and hung up     what a dumd a**

haha got a call from this guy too. i tried to listen, then he got bossy telling me to change my computer, told him i never said i had one. then he tells me to change something and i tell the guy no. once again he tell me, i then tell him no and laugh at him. and i get told to f*** off. lets see if he calls back again. lol

I?m seriously thinking about setting up a virtual machine set on DMZ in the firewall.. and say ?yes, here you go, thank you very much? ? but first fill the desktop and wallpaper with a bevy of twisted gore pics. I think that will be a nice little gift for these 2 bit script kiddies. I don?t think there are any laws against doing this? but I?d wanna know first to be sure. They themselves are probably looking to break the law anyway.. but then again, if you agree to give them access, then technically they?re not ?unauthorized?? Also for s**** & giggles, I could set up a service to capture all the network traffic, just to see what they?re up to and where they?re coming from.

I just received this call.  His name was Charles from India about my microsoft.   I asked him for a representative in Canada as that is the new thing to help keep jobs here.  He saud there were no techs doing this in Canada.  I sked for a supervisor he said he was one.  Since he asked for my husband in the first place, I said to call back when  he was here since I shouldn't be doing anything with his account.  He is calling back later.

just got that call. As soon as I said I do not have a computer but I have an I pad they said "ok thank you" and hung up. So what is this?

total scam! just got a call from these people. exact same m.o. freaky thing was they knew my address, I tried to play along to figure out who the hell I was dealing with. they wouldnt give me a clear answer kept insisting i go to there website "comantra.net" an i played along as though i would. presumable they send you there to get their virus. f****rs!

I got a call today (Sept 13 2011 @11:37am) from an east indian guy telling me he was from microsoft and that there was a problem with my computer and to stay on the line with him on the line and that he'd give me instruction on how to fix it and i said oh really thats funny  i think your a scammer cause i have no computer and he hung up on me Gggrrrr those idiots

Got a call this evening, .  Similar MO, calling about my computer for Microsoft. Pretty lame.   Foreign accent, could not say Indian for sure.  Told him to get lost.  Called the number back - could not be completed as dialed.

Same thing happened here.  Some guy with a bad phone connection and Indian accent (India).  Tried to get me to change my computer settings.  Be afraid

I got a call a few weeks ago. Aug. 29 to be exact. It was a man with a very strong accent. I couldn't understand what he was saying. It was probably something about my computer. At least that's what others have been saying about this number.

i just got a call from them as well...and he wanted me to check my computer for some virus or something... he was apparently calling from microsoft.
i bullshted saying i got it fixed from microsoft... and he was still trying to get me to check soemthing with my computer so i hung up on him lol

I had the exact same call today ( and once last week) even the same guy which sounded like he was from india! I told him to go back to quicky mart, because there was nuthin' wrong with my computer. Last week after he called.....I called the same # back. I got a recording which said that this # was  "phishing scam" and they are after personal info and will steal your identity! today when i called it, i just had the "we are unable to complete your call as dialed" message.

I just got the same call.  I hung up immediately.

Received this call 6:30 pm, Aug 26 and again at 11am aug 27.  Told the male I could not understand him and hung up.  Reported this call to Telus Security Aug 29 at 10:45am.p
