I have acute panic disorder. I crap my pants everytime my phone rings with a number i don't know. Sometimes I just wet myself, but usually I crap myself. I'm glad to know this number that has been calling me is not a bill collector. Now I will be relieved when I see this number, instead of relieving myself on myself.

received call
caller id says Birch Run, Michigan so I did not pick up phone but heard stupid message
they have called before from that number, same robo-voice recording
it's obviously a bunch of b.s.

yes, it's annoying especially when you've registered your phone number on do not call list
maybe you can forward these calls to the IRS.....and they'll make a dance video out of it using taxpayers money.....

yup .. fax dump .. until you get the really unscrupulous telemarking jack***es that identify the fax number and put you onto their fax dump lists  (ie spam via fax)

If callers had the fear of reverse trace in them ... they wouldn't abuse the phone.  the CID information can be faked ... even on the good side ... say Sears is calling its customers that have purchased XYZ Widget and its been found to be explosively dangerous .. their CID could be re-written to present the name "Sears - Consumer Alert" ... with an 800 number rather than the DID line that it came from .. but that information would have to be REGISTERED for a CID mangle ... the re-write of CID information that shows something other than the original DID/DOD phone number (Direct Inward Dial / Direct Outward Dialing).

The whole "ignore" isn't valid, nor is the supposed "from XYZ company" .... CID information is spoofed, all the time.  Hence why you see people reporting "unknown" as coming up on CID ... or calling back the number leads to "can not complete the call"

What needs to happen in this country, is that all numbers are required to reverse trace.  All phone companies should be required to have a registration and reporting service, that allowed users to file complaints against callers .... and so the three choices become

1) original number/name unobstructed
2) CID Block - blocks CID from coming across our displays, but *STILL* allows for customers to complain (some phone services do have *xx which reports / flags the last caller for complaint follow up)
3) Registered & Authorized CID Mangle (still reportable like CID Block)

These F*ed up fly by night companies would fall under #2 or 3 they would be required to have valid information on file, that a consumer can file complaints against.

The next step above that is the administration process whereby people that complain can be assured that X company will no longer be allowed to call (or face stiff penalties)

Its that these companies have no fear of prosecution under current law for their annoyances, that they continue to abuse us all.

Political Call
Got a call from 989-624-8438. I ran a trace: Ameritech (Political Call) This number is unlisted, but an identification has been found in an unofficial database. This can be considered a good guess at the true identity of the caller but it is not to be relied on 100%

I called back: The call cannot be completed as dialed...

They actually left a message (prerecorded, of course) on my answering machine.  Identified themselves as the "Tax Renegotiation Center", offering to "work with me" to negotiate with the IRS to "reduce or even eliminate" my back-tax debt.  In an interesting change from most of the prerecorded scam calls, this one offers 7 as the key to press if you want to be (supposedly) removed from their list (it doesn't matter what keys they list, I'm not pushing anything but the hook switch during any such call.)
What we, the phone owning public really need, is someone or something that will "reduce or even eliminate" all of the denizens of the call center boiler rooms world wide, preferably in a manner that will cause them extreme pain and suffering during the process.

I want to add this about call blocking for those with landline telephones.

I have a landline phone and my provider in SoCal is Cox Communications.

I just learned that if I have their Premier Plan, I can use *60 to add a list of blocked telephone numbers. Even if I only have their basic plan, it is only $6.00 more per month for this feature, called Selective Call Rejection. Hmmm.

Adding the last incoming call is done by simply pressing #01#. This of course eliminates having to key the number that just called.

So check with your phone provider if my note applies to your situation and this looks worth pursuing.

Some of you may prefer to purchase a new phone that has call blocking built in.

received a call from this number yesterday. no message left. caller ID said Birch Run Minnesota. Minnesota does not have an area code of 989. Since they left no message I assume it is not important and the call was only to annoy me.  I never answer call I don't recognize and I don't return calls unless a message is left. I screen all my calls. So if the object of the call was to annoy me then they were unsuccessful.  my family and friends call me on my cell.  I never give my cell number out to any businesses only to family and friends.  any legitimate business call will leave a message and I will return their call.

Got The Call, Didn't Answer. The "Do Not Call" List Is A Joke. Accomplishes Nothing To File Reports With FCC. Like Someone Else Said, All This On A Phone I Pay For?  (Sorry About The Capitalization,I Can't Turn If Off.)

Remember, in or about 2006, Congress changed the laws about third party advertisers calling all phone numbers, whether listed or not. Robo-calling made this even worse; anyone could be a target at any number, land line or cellular. Vote the "scalawags" out of office and vote into office people who respect and believe in the Constitution, and will stand up for their constituents -- and not sell out to corporate interests.

Missed the call - w/ no VM, from this number; returning the call, got the familiar 3-tone, followed by the familiar message, "We're sorry, your call cannot be completed, as dialed." (repeats); except it seemed very scratchy and fake and scam people. is on the new to. IRS scam. IRS do not call people just a letter.
