No.  The calls originate in India.  They are spoofing a US domestic phone number.   They do this to hide their true location, which  is generally somewhere in northern India.

Leave poor Gibbons alone!

Got this call at an ungodly hour in the morning.  I am very tech savvy, but I thought I would just "mess" with them.  I told them I did not have time to talk now, but I am really concerned so call me later.  I am going to buy a whistle today, and the next time they call, they will get an earful.

I just got a call at ten o'clock tonight.  I 've been getting calls from various numbers but they all seem to have Indian accents.  I hung up.  Thanks for the warning.

Called at 10 at night. Insane.

Received a call today from same woman.   I knew instantly that it was a scam when she said she was from Microsoft and that she detected a virus on my computer.  I strung her along for awhile and finally asked her which of my 5 computers was the problem.   Then I asked her if she knew who I was at which point she yelled at me, "Lady, you aren't listening to me" and then hung up.   So irritating!  I'm dying to call the number back and do the same thing right back but don't want to waste any more of my time with these criminals!

This number tried calling us after 10:10 pm. Didn't recognize it let it go to voice mail  and no message just a hang up.

Did not recognize the number so did not answer --- twice.  

Just hung up it's nearly midnight. Some how my computer that is not plugged in is sending "microsoft" error messages. He also said i was runn ing XP & i said no i'm not. Then he said you have a desktop computer, i don't so i told him i knew this:was some sort of scam. He kept up the charade. He had my name & address which bothers me a bit. He :finally said you can call:microsoft to verify. I said i will & our state attorney general. And im pretty sure someone from Microsoft would not call at midnight let alone from Michigan, i am not that stupid to fall for your lies i hung up.  I think he would have kept on faking it as long as he could keep me on the phone.  Frankly i have better things to do like SLEEP.

I got a call that woke me up at 11:30 pm

They just called and got dead air. When I called back it said the number was disconnected.  Why would they call people so late? Idiots won't even be able to scam us at 10:43pm pst.. Hahahahaha

You can't stop the calls being initiated because they originate in India.  You can protect yourself.  Invest in a call blocker.

Called twice this week, both times after 10pm PT. I am so angry. Need to find out how to stop this. I see lots of posts about the calls, but no information on how to stop them.

Same thing for me. Indian accent said my puter had a virus and she would help get it removed. They have called several times and one time it was a Indian accented guy.

Just called 9:55 pm claiming to be with Microsoft. I just told them to quit trying to scam people and earn money the right way and hung up.

It's only after I have called AT&T and voiced a complaint on their service, that I get these calls.

Last time call came from North Carolina and I denied I owned a computer and they wanted to argue with me!

These calls are made to keep people(like you) off balance and aggravated ...I have such fun with them....next time,"pretend" to open the page they ask for...and act it out,see how far you can take them and waste their time for a change...if they call back,answer in a thick accent and reverse it,telling them they have a virus now in their system and would they like a big bowl of tabouli???

phone call at 6:50 a.m from male with heavy Indian accent telling me he was a global microsoft rep and that something was going on with my computer related to a virus.  I hung up as this was most obviously a scam call.

Got a call from this number tonight just after 9 pm - said the caller's name was V.G. Gibbons.  I didn't recognize either the name or the number, so didn't answer, thank goodness!  Hope they catch this bunch of pond scum.  I'm 83 years old, and don't want to be bothered by this type of criminal!!

They called my home twice. Once at 10:30 PM, the second last night about 9:00. I'm a criminal intelligence analyst and working on a second college degree in Information Technology. Thought I would mess with them. They told me my computer was downloading malware, I told them it wasn't on or connected to the Internet. They then wanted me to turn it on so that they could walk me thorugh the steps. I told them I had two anti-virus programs and Windows Security Essentials, after all they said they were from Windows security. When I asked them to add the particular malware software they were looking for to the next Windows Security Essentials patch, she told me that anti-virus programs don't always catch the problem. Then I asked why they couldn't update Security Essentials if they knew what the problem was. She continued to tap-dance around the subject. Next I told her I as an IT Professional and worked for a major federal law enforcement agency, that's when I heard the click and silence.

String them along and then tell them you have hacked their system and will be uploading a virus to their system.

Received a call on my lan line at 9:45 P.M.  asking if I was the owner of my computer...I first said No...She (Heavy accent) asked if the owner was there, I then said I was the owner...she told me to" go turn on my computer as it was downloading a virus"....I told her "oh, ok I will get it tomorrow"  and hung up.  Came from this # at MI.

received call from 989-738-5495 today 4/26/14. Received same call from 989-641-6022 2 days ago. Both had same message. My computer is infected and will shut down shortly. !st call said they can fix it but it would have to be now. If they find something it would then cost me between 177.00 to 185.00 to be paid only if I am satisfied. 2nd call I hung up as soon as they said they were from microsoft and my computer was infected. I said no your not and hung up.

Called...said they were from Microsoft Tech support and said my computer was detected by THE Microsoft server and they were calling me to help clean my computer. I humored him for a little bit then hung up. Maybe would have had more fun but the guy had a REALLY heavy indian accent which made it hard to understand him. He asked me to go to my computer and turn it on, I'm sure they would have directed me to some site and infected my computer or taken control of it.

Called early this morning; I was unable to get to the phone. After reading these notes I am glad I didn't.

Just when you think the tele-scammers can't go any lower, they call through at 10:38 pm!  These bozos seem to be short a brick or two, as it seems likely that they are only going to reach really angry people, when they call through so late or so early.

I also got a call from this number at 7:50 AM.  I did not answer as I did not recognize the number.  Whoever it was has a nerve calling at such an early time.  I am sure it was nothing I was interested in.
