Prank Call
We have gotten repeated calls from this number for the past two days. Very noisy background & thick Indian/Arabic accents. Claiming they are monitoring our computer and are calling from Windows. Is there anyway to trace this number & get these people to stop? Who can we call? The phone company? The authorities? Please make it stop! And please tell everyone you know about this!!! Don't let them have access to you computers. Hang up & try to report them!!

Got a call from "Peter" (yeah, right) just now saying he was from the computer technical dept of windows service center. When I asked where he was calling from, he said California , I said no, what city. Again said California. Told him that was astate, not a town and evidently he didn't know what he was talking about. Lots of background noise. He hung up. Not first time they have called. Grrrrr!

I have been receiving calls to my home for quite some time from 989-917-0658. I happened to be working from home today and just picked up the phone. A man with a Indonesian accent told me he was calling from the Windows Service Center about reported errors that were coming back from computer to them. From this second on I knew it was a scam. I started asking questions as to how he gained said information, he declined to tell me exactly, only that my computer was infested with spyware and trojans. So to humor him, I opened up cmd and ran netstat -an to check all my ports to see what was established and listening... as suspected, nothing out of the ordinary. I divulge this information to said "tech" on the phone. I also informed him that I have worked in IT for 13 years and have never had any issues that I couldn't handle and he said "Let me have you talk to my supervisor".  Supervisor gets on the phone and I just started going off on her with questions and the phone went dead.

Beware! These are scammers who want to remote access into your system to steal your information. Don't talk to them. Just hang up and put them on "your do not call" list on the do not call.gov site.

They are based in India or somewhere and have a number hacked so that it looks like they are in the USA.
What they do is trying to scare you by telling that you have some kind of virus on your computer. When you fall for it they'll ask you to go visit some web pages where you'll get a virus from them!!!
Then they'll ask you money to remove the virus. If you refuse they'll delete all your files.Yes with the virus they've installed, they are now in control of your computer.
So be aware and don't fall for this scam.Ignore and report it.Or if you want to have some fun, waste their time by messing with them.
Our local TV station just did a report on this scam.

Just got a call from this same number.  They call all the time and mostly when I answer, they hang up. Today they said all the same thing - problem with my Windows computer.  I need to open it up.  Noisy background.  I said I can't verify who they are but that I would take my computer to the Geek Squad at Best Buy if there is a problem.  They were insistent on this being a problem and that they had to help me because they are receiving error messages.  i felt like I couldn't say how I really feel about their harrassing scam phone calls because I don't know if they could actually hack into something of mine and destroy it just because I was perceived rude on the call...I don't know what they are capable of but hope this is being investigated by authorities...

Same call. Said they were from Windows. I told them we dont have a very old computer. So old in fact Microsoft no longer supports the version we have. He then interrupted me me saying they are from Windows Company not Microsoft. lmao. So then I asked who did they think made Windows. He hollers to the others "who window maker?" They all answer "Windows". So i cussed a little in English got threatened with government action if i dont let them fix my computer. So i hung up.

Oh, they are awful, definitely the south asian hillbillies, and that's misusing hillbillies. I asked for a supervisor, so "Jane" talked with me, or rather screamed and got mildly abusive when I stalled and asked questions. finally she said, "I have answered your questions, now you have to answer mine." I was just going along for the entertainment. Who could believe this spit?

Called my house claiming our computer was sending viruses, my girlfriend asked for the serial number of the system that was "sending viruses", and the stereotypical Indian accented person asked why she was making his job difficult. She hung up.

About a week and a half later, I answered the phone and an Indian accented person, that sounded like they were in a crowded room with 20+ people, all talking at the same time, asked for someone that did not live at my house. I explained he had the wrong number, but he quickly cut me off and relayed our phone number. I confirmed that he had reached that number, but there was nobody with that name associated with it. He changed the subject and said he was calling about my "Windows Computer", I chuckled figuring it was a scam. He immediately got defensive and yelled "Vhy are jou laughing sir, dis is for serious". I just busted out laughing and said "don't fu*%!ng call here". It turns out we missed a call from this same number the day before, but they just hung up on our answering machine.

I didn't know about my girlfriend having to deal with them until I told her about the person making me laugh.

Have not received any calls in about 2 weeks, fingers crossed they got the message.

I already knew it was a scam and the noise from where he was calling from was loud..  That is all we have to do is let them in our computers it would never be the same again.

I got a call from a dude claiming to be Alex and claiming to be concerned about my Windows computer. That's about all I could make out because this was the most chaotic phone call I've ever heard. Sounded like 10 people crammed in a phone booth. I just told him I had a MAC and he hung up on me.

Prank Call
I also received a call from these same people today. Telling me that my computer has sent some type of error codes to them regarding Windows. They also ask me to press the control and the windows icon as well as the r button . I knew something didn't sound right when i heard all the others in the background sounding like alot of cold calling going on. I immediately ask for the callers name and he himself with the heavy Indian accent said his name was Harry Williams, I would love to know where they get your number from? This is scary Computers are great but it is also scary because millions of us put data into this computers everyday including our personal when and where about on a daily base so scary!!!!

Some Indians apparently think because Americans are so used to them on phone because of outsourcing of  help desk, tech.
support and other stuff by our largest companies that we will just assume that if an Indian from "windows"
calls to help protect us from the internet and poor performance we will just assume we are lucky.
We are lucky .... lucky that, so far, despite our ignorance and laziness we haven't completely lost.
They say never open an email you don't know source of --- also don't answer phone call from unknown
source, if you do don't tell them or verify anything.  Among a multitude of other reasons,  the caller-id is
likely a bogus or spoofed number.  This is similar to the Ethiopian Royal who emails for help getting his fortune
transferred here and will pay you to help.  Imagine if the Ethiopian Royal called you or , better yet, approached
you with this nonsense.        PS - Watch "Slumdog Millionaire"   Chai Wallah would be an undeserved  compliment and no one's name is LISA, STEVE, or JANE.   PPS - Since they say "the Windows" instead of Microsoft I doubt anything will
be done about these scumbags.

I pretended to go along while pulling this up. I immed. knew it was bogus because they were calling from
"the windows", Indian accent so very thick, noisiest call center ever (inc. yelling in background).  I went from
Steve to Lisa to Jane (LOL names) because I could not understand what they were saying. As if I didn't know,
I saw this page as further evidence it was bogus. (This has been going on for years; 80's lottery cons to
current  "you computer velly bad" ruse from "the windows")
So when they wanted me to turn on my computer and locate the c-t-r-l  key and look for key with window picture next to it and
press it and "R" key at "the velly same time" I told her I wanted to punch her in the face. The ensuing velly foul tirade was, as
they say, PRICELESS!!  I hope next time I'll think to record it for entertaining utubers. (possible title -   "Slumdog Hillbillies" )

Got a call from 989-917-0658, claiming to be Windows Service Dept.  Noisy background and would not give details.  He said I was having trouble with my computer and to go open it and he would walk me through the problem.  Told him I wasn't having a problem repeatedly and asked why he was calling.  He said, yes you are, trust me I can help you.  I hung up.  Called the number back and message says the number cannot be accessed.  It's a scam.

Sounds like a call center call from Mumbai or somewhere, trying to tell me my computer is sending out viruses or malware. Asked him what kind of system was I running and he responded with "Windows". Doubt that my OSX iMac is sending out anything of the kind, and masquerading as a Windows machine.
