I am glad to know that I am not the only one being aggravated by these crooks. If and when I see this # on my caller ID I just ignore it. However when I do answer (I always know it is them) I immediately begin telling them that I will pray for them so they won't go to hell for lying and cheating. This may not stop them, but perhaps if they get enough prayers, they will get tired of calling my number. Anyway, it gives me pleasure to know that I can frustrate them also.

It is unlawfull from them to provide à software from Norton for free. They simply do not own the copyrights on this software and there is no such license available...

This is à pure scam......

They told me that they needed to fix my computer concerning the file rundll32. I then told them that my files were not corrupted and that ut would be cheaper to reboot my computer. They told me that it would not work, which is pure b***s***.... Just get yourself a good anti-virus, spyware, malware program from McAfee for 30$......Then purchase à registry cleaning software in case à virus destroyed it and then your computer is running too slow ( I do have Regsys by XIONIX). Your total investment will be 60$ and nobody will fool around with your computer code. By the way.....I can guess Kevin lives in India and work for LizInfotech. He also likes to call himself Ed Watson or Ben Smith on the phone.

I got a call also.  It comes up on my phone as unknown caller 1.  He said he was from Windows and there are problems with my computer that I needed to go to my computer and he started giving me instructions. I started to do as he said, but he was very pushy and not ligit sounding at all.  I asked him his name and he said Albert.  Told him I didn't have time right now and give me a number to call back.  He started giving me a number 210-356-142.  I said that's incomplete so he then gave me 210-338-6142 and I said who do I ask for and he said Steve Wilson. I didn't call. From reading this I now know how the scam works.  So glad I didn't follow his instructions!

This happened to me today and I fell for it! They gave me my computor number, forced me into checking it on my computor, whilst I was doing this they got into my computor. They said that a number of my files had been disabled. Then told me my computor would shut down because my security from micro-soft had run out, and that I needed to renew it ASAP! It could only be renewed if I paid over a hundred pounds to protect it. I declined. When I went back to the computor later, I could not get onto internet. They had disabled all my files! I had to call them back and pay £114 to have them restore it. They told me they were the engineers from Microsoft and that my system would shut unless I paid.  After 4 hours and £114 later, I have my computor back and its all changed. When I said I was going to tell everyone, they said, they could trace all my transactions and shut me down.  They are scamers..... do not let them into your computor. I am going to phone credit card company tomorrow, but I don't hold out much hope. I was rail-roaded into it. It should be illegal and they should be done for fraud or at best Microsoft should take action to shut it down!

Well, this is one of the side effects of globalization. That's one of the forms of outsourcing - now the scam phone calls are outsourced as well.
There is no way for them to see any "signals" from computers around the world, doesn't matter if they have Windows installed on them or anything else.
This is a complete scam, and they don't sit in NJ, the call is obviously being redirected, to India most probably.

I can understand poverty and all, but they don't exactly rob exclusively the wealthy - they steal money from anyone they can persuade.

Just recieved a call from +92 353, caller was female, couldn't understand her name, said she was  from Windows help and support center.  Asked about problems with my computer, I said yes (don't really but wanted to see what this was about) she asked if i was in front of it, at this point I started asking questions. She claimed she had my name, my phone number and my address.  She was able to provide my address.  Claimed company was in new jersey and provided the phone number of 201-338-6142.

At this point I advised her I didn't believe her, she said goodluck with your computer and hung up.

DO NOT allow access to your computer when one of these people call you.  It is a scam, nothing more.  They are using the psychology of fear to fool people into compromising their own security.  And then they are defrauding people by charging them for services that were never needed in the first place.

1. Microsoft will never pro-actively call you in response to problems you are having (or may not be aware of) with your computer.  Microsoft will only provide you with support if you call them.  Therefore anyone who claims to represent Microsoft when they call you is lying.  You can hang up on them without a trace of guilt.

2. If you do allow them access to your computer they can plant viruses, trojans or other programs that may give them a back door to access your computer at a later date.  A full virus scan, or even a re-imaging of your computer (OS re-installation) is a good idea.

3. If you have paid any of these con artists money, and you used PayPal or a Credit Card, you can invoke fraud protection to get your money back.  Call your Credit Card company and explain the situation.  They will most likely do a charge back against the vendor.  With enough charge backs these con artists will not be able to accept credit card payments any longer.  If you used PayPal you can use their payment dispute feature.  You will have to provide a written explanation of what has happened.  Again, with enough complaints through PayPal their merchant status should get revoked.

This applies to onestoppcsolutions.com (One Stop PC Solutions), or any other party who claims to represent Microsoft.

Received a phone call from John Wilson with an Indian accent, claiming to be from microsoft.  He said that one of my computer was sending large files and he wanted to help me remove them.  When I tried to get some informatio about which computrer on the network was causing the problem he refused to give me the information saying that it was not his job (how could he remove the files???).  I asked for the phone number to call him back he he gave me 856 831 0503.  He got confused about his location: Manitoba, UK etc.  This was an obvious scam and when I told him that he would not access my computer the F* words started to flow. Interesting....

First an Indian-accented woman called to verify that i 'have windows computers', then I was transferred to a "microsoft certified technician' who gained access to my machine via the AMMYY remote desktop sharing program, and proceeded to lead me both thru my internal performance logs and external web sites to "prove I had been affected by a koobface virus attack that had left a backdoor to my system open" to hackers.  Somehow he pegged my CPU to 100%, though this was the only program running.

Next he offered to fix this and all problems for free, but he required a "security panel" to be installed, and led me to 'onestoppcsolutions.com'.  Then he required that I purchase one of the plans offered by that site  that start at $228.  He pushed very hard, giving me his employer ID code of MS22259HQ, a name of 'Mike Smith' and a callback number of 201-338-6142.  He sounded Indian with a New Zealand accent, if that's possible!

The call lasted over an hour; it took maybe thirty minutes before he even got to the security panel/sales pitch!  Avast Internet Security has not picked up on any actual intrusion into my machine, but it's about to get a full in-depth scan.

They say that they are from windows company, they want access to my computer! First time I did give them the access to my computer because I thought they were real & my dad wasn't in the country either so I got scared by hearing that my computer is hacked. When I gave them the access they started going through my pictures & stuff! When I saw them doing that I immediately shut down my computer & told them not to call me. However I am still constantly getting calls from these people & they are telling me that if I don't buy their security protection then they will cancel the license of my computer! They called me 10 - 15 times, I told them not to call me & threatened about the police too. However, they aren't stopping to call me so if anyone has the answer how to stop them then please help me !

Got a call from Peter at this # who identified himself as being from Window's Servicing Center. Apparently they have been receiving many distress emails from my computer. He had me go to Run and key in some letters. He sounded shocked when I refused to press OK.

Even if he was completely legitimate I would never purchase anything from a telemarketer. It fuels an industry that spams you, calls during dinner and generally disrupts your life. If you want telemarketers to go away stop buying from them.

Just got a call from "Benjamin" who sounds an awful lot like Jim and Peter (Indian accent).
Anyway, if this were legitimate they would ask a whole bunch of questions to verify that they are speaking to the right person. Instead I asked the questions and concluded that they're using the information published by the phone company ... he had nothing more than that. Pretty sure that when I register a product I'm required to submit a lot more than a phone number am last name.
Being as suspicious as all of you I told him I was in the middle of something and that i'd call back (just wanted the do a search on them). He gave me this number, but a minute or so later calls me from 607-324-9764. When I asked him why that was he said it was computer generated.
To everybody out there, DON'T TRUST THEM.
Also, most legit call centers never tell you to call a specific person. They give you the number and a reference number and tell you that anybody will be able to pull up your information and help you.

hi there... i got the phone call to from a john wilson and the guy wanted to get on to my computer aswell.. the weird part about it is that we turned off our computer.. then we got the call.. he was hacking when we were on but when we shut it off, he lost connection; thus, the phone call... and I phoned our internet provider (shaw), and the guy tried to hack the man that called because of the history but had no luck doing so as the hacker had encryption codes set on his ip address, name, and number... so yes, this is a scam... and what every you do, dont press yes on your computer if the "windows service center" wants to access your computer.. bottom line... this is a bid scam and the guy is good...

Got a call from (201) 338-6142 very similar to others reported above...i.e. claimed to be from Windows and would help me fix problem with my computer.  Of course I did not fall for it.
I have a question though:  since it is so evident that this number is used to carry out fraudulent activity, why the h...can't the FCC and/or the FBI take immediate action? Surely the phone company providing service at that number can provide investigators with names and/or addresses of the fraudsters.

They're still at it!  I received a call this evening....unknown name, unknown number on the caller ID.  The fellow claimed to be from Windows (no such company, of course) and that they had received a report my PC was heavily infected with "extremely malicious" viruses.

This smelled heavily of SCAM, so I stopped him there and asked what company he was with.

"Microsoft." he responded.
"And what is your telephone number?" I asked.
"Why would you want that?" he replied
"So I can verify that you are who you say you are." I answered

To his credit, he didn't hang up on me but gave me the following number:
(this, by the way, is the format in which he gave it)  20-133-86-142

A reverse directory search shows the number as non-existent (but probably in New Jersey).  A different search led me to this site.  As everyone above says:  BEWARE! BEWARE!

This morning I received a call from this number.  He said he was Alex from Windows IT and that my computer has been hacked.  I told him I do not have a problem with my computer but he insisted.  I am computer savy so would not fall for his line but I told him I could not understand him and could not deal with his call right now.  I asked for his number and name so that I could call him back.  Of course, I have no intention of ever phoning him back!  I also asked where he was calling from and he said New Jersey.  I suspect he is really from India or Pakistan from the accent.
I reported the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.  The lady I talked to said some people are receiving as many as 30 call per day from this kind of fraudsters.  She said it is the number 1 complaint right now.
I am not concerned for myself (except for the inconvenience of answering the phone) but I do have concerns for older people who have little computer experience.
