A dear friend of mine is a Captain of Police in New Jersey, and she is part of the Fraternal Order of Police. I asked her advice, and here is what she recommended. "Never, EVER donate to some organization soliciting via the telephone! The "genuine" organizations that request donations for our public servants -- where the bulk of the donation goes to the organization -- are done via the U.S. mail."
So there you have it! If anyone solicits over the phone, tell them 'not interested.'

Another BS hang-up call. By the way, NEVER entertain these telemarketers purporting to support law enforcement. If you want to help your local cops, their unions solicit help by mail, they don't call and bother you. Definitely consider helping them that way, they use a lot of the funds for local community things that benefit you.
