There was someone that called me 2day and said that they worked in New York and they asked me has anyone ever scammed me out of money and I told they yes 2 years ago. They said that they wanted to transfer $599 into my bank account. So I told them that I would look up there company on the internet to see what they were all about. Then they said that they would call me back tomorrow.So I knew that they were liars and scammers so I hung up on those idiots

They keep calling me and say theres a lawsuit filed against me for a loan I took out, I never took out a loan!

Co called while I was out, did not leave message.  Research of this numbers reveals this may be a scam.

How can I stop these calls? We are called daily on numerous occassions and at late hours of the night. The message is always political in nature but we have refused to answer the last 15 calls but the continue to call. This is really a pain to deal with every day.

receiving quite a few of these Octothorpe calls since the first of July.  They are being recorded in my Uverse phone logs, but I am not answering.  Probably as the other callers here stated just another phone slam scam.

Have had a couple calls from this number.  We don't answer unknown calls.  Just checking for info on the caller...

A man with an Ethiopian accent says he's with the FBI in New York and want to pay out money lost in scams.  He claims a settlement was reached and a Judge has released the funds, held by Price Waterhouse.  To get my settlement money all I have to do is pay the legal and processing fees.  No way will I do that!  This is part of a larger group and they need to be brought down.  He had info on me from somewhere.

This man calls my job but iam off work and said he was from the department of justice and that i had a security alert attatched to my name.  My supervisor called me at home without giving them any information an said the give away was the african voice with an american name.  i looked the numbers up first.  They are bill collectors scamers etc.  my account number was used some weeks pior to this and also some people i know too.  becareful.

Have rec'd at least 2 "hang up" calls from this phone number on my cell.  Google says the call is coming from Washington D.C.  After reading the above (and seeing Cairo, Egypt associated w/number) I will allow the phone to go thru to voice mail.

May I add you have given them permission to call you IF YOU CALL THEM BACK and your # is on the do not call list.

Says it comes from Octothorpe and I don't answer unknown numbers. But after reading the posts then I will call Gov-DNC and notify them. Obviously scammers and a lot to be concerned with. Be smart-give them NO information!

it's hard to not pick up or return these types of calls. but i try to resist. watch timing. timing is everthing. and patterns.

Received ( not answered ) calls form the above number - needs to stop. We are on no call list!

They have called my home phone 3 times. The number calling was 202-540-5120. The ID of caller was "W. Malone".  I know a William Malone whom I haven't seen in 20 yrs. I thought it might be him, but thought it best to check white pages on Google.

Sure enough, it sounds like a scam. Next time they call, I will pick up and hang up right away. I saw a movie where the victim would blow up firecrackers next to the phone receiver when pests called, but unfortunately I'm currently out of those.

Someone with an Indian accent asked me some questions about my fire alarms and then told me I was entered into a drawing for some prize and hung up.  I did not reveal any personal info so I'm quite puzzled the purpose of this scam?

I received a call today from 202-540-5120 (which appears as W. Malone) who said he was calling me from the US Government and I had won a grant for $5,000.00 that didn't have to be repaid.

He said, "You're probably wondering how I got your name right?"....I said, Uh-huh...he said it was pulled from a pool of names of people that pay their taxes on time, that haven't filed for BK in the last 6 months and pay their bills on time.  Now, can you tell me how you'd like to spend your $5K on?  

I told him to take my name off the list and to never call me again.  You could hear a lot of others operators on the phone talking in the background and he had a definite accent to his voice.  He identified himself and it was definitely an indian or pakistani name.

Homeland Security huh?  What a joke.

I just got a second call from them. They asked for me by name and I replyed this was a wrong number. When they verify the phone number I told them no one by that name here. We will see if they call back. This method seems to slow down the robo calls I've been getting.

Got call at 1:28 p.m. EDT, 11-5-10.  Did not answer, no message left. "octothorpe" is the word for what most of us call the pound sign on phones & keyboards. How cu-u-u-u-te! I spoze someone thinks it sounds brainy or scientific.  Don't plan to answer or call the number back but will watch for repeat calls. How do people cope without caller ID? Without it, we'd have answered 500 political calls the last 2 months & you can't report those, they're legal ):-(

Got a clal from this number today -- someone answered and then hung up.  It comes up as W. Malone.  They never got a chance to say anything; but after reading all the postings I'm leary.

My wife just called me at work from home and instead of seeing "Anonymous" because our home phone number is blocked  I saw 202-504-5120. I asked her to re-dial, she did, and the same number popped up again. Strange, very strange. What's important is that we user Internet phone, ooma. I suspect they intercept phone calls over the Internet, and change the origin of the call. First of all, they get  new phone numbers to call and secondly, they obscure their identity.

Got a call from Octothorpe. I didn't answer. I'm in Austin, TX .  I don't want my life to be interupted with pranks, scammers, telemarketers, marketing surveys and polical campaign calls. I am on the do not call list and it isn't working. I think the phone company could put in a program to block scammer but then phone company will loose the scammer making calls as their customer. Break this phone monopoly and create a new phone system that blocks unwanted callers and scammers.
