This is the American Center for Liberty and Justice. "Led by Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, the ACLJ focuses on constitutional and human rights law worldwide. Based in Washington, D.C., with affiliated offices in Israel, Russia, Kenya, France, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, the ACLJ is pro-life and dedicated to the ideal that religious freedom and freedom of speech are inalienable, God-given rights for all people. The ACLJ engages legal, legislative, and cultural issues by implementing an effective strategy of advocacy, education, and litigation that includes representing clients before the Supreme Court of the United States and international tribunals around the globe."

My calls (more than once) came in from 202-607-2557 w/ACLJ on the caller ID.

I have resorted to turning my answer machine off when I am not home. Maybe after a while all these bogus calls from this place and all the others will stop.

If anybody really wants me, they know my cell # or they can call me at work.

Oh, you can also press *57 everytime the # calls. I have heard if the same # calls more than 3x's in 30 days, it prompts some sort of investigation. Not sure if it is true, but I'll do it anyway.

Good tip; it was ACLJ calling. Like you said, after you call the number back you can press 1 to interrupt their outgoing message to go to next menu, then press 3 so that you can enter your phone number to be removed. I called it twice so I could remove both my home and cell numbers.

Political Call
I received a call from this number.  I listened to the horrible auto-message, and stayed on the line so that I could request they remove me from their lists.  When I finally got an answer, they thanked me for signing their petition, which I MOST ASSUREDLY DID NOT DO.  I informed them of this, and was told that I had.  I demanded to be removed from their lists, and informed them that I do not agree with their insane message of forcing Christianity upon others.

The number is from the "American Center for Law and Justice", a supreme misnomer, because they are attempting to squelch the beliefs of others.  It is run by Jay and Jordan Sekulow.

The number they harass people from is 202-607-2572.
They give out a number to call to have yourself removed from their system, but it is merely their petition line, also available from their website.  (Just google ACLJ.)

Beware of this call.  They erroneously assume any contact is support, and will promptly put you in their petition.

Sorry, but you're wrong! I never signed or contacted them, otherwise I wouldn't be so puzzled about their calls. Whether they're Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or Atheists, calling people so early in the morning or so late in the evening is absolutely wrong. If their intent is to request donations for their cause, they're using the wrong approach. I've found out that by giving a donation to any organization, you get innundated by phone calls from other charities attempting to squeeze money from you. Consequently, I've decided not to donate a penny to anyone anymore because the idiots sell their lists to the millions of foundations also in search of your dollars.

These people either call exactly at 8:17 am or 8:46 pm even on Saturdays and Sundays. When answering there's total silence from the other end. I called them back and got a recording with their name. If they're lawyers, don't they know that calling so early in the morning people might still be asleep? We're retired and deserve to be able to rest after having to get up at daybreak for many years in order to go to work. Definitely they're inconsiderate to say the least.

What amazes me is that so many people on this forum are calling their unknown caller "idiots" or other such terms, when you are the ones who signed up with them!  Considering the ACLJ is a Christian-based organization, it implies that those who signed up through either a donation or signing a petition are also Christian, or at least striving for those principles.  I get that because you don't know who they are, you insult them because they "inconvenienced" you with a call, but why should it be different than if you knew who the caller was, Christian?  Christ did not have double standards, nor should we.

Political Call
Just as someone said in a post above, you can remove your number from their calling list. I just removed my number pretty easily; however, I can't yet say if it actually worked or not.

Call the number back, (202) 607-2572. When the recording begins, press 1. The recording begins to tell you more about the ACLJ, press 3. You're then prompted to enter the 10 digit phone number that you wish to remove from their list, beginning with the area code. After entering your phone number the system will verify your entry by reading it back to you, and ask you to press 1 to confirm. After pressing 1 the recording gives you some BS about how they have up to 30 days, by law, to remove you from the calling list.

Hope this helps someone else who's being harassed by these people.

Telemarketer
I have been getting misdirected calls from this organization for over two years now. My work phone is 202-687-2572 which is the University Library at G'town University.

202-607-2572 ACLJ is the American Center for Law and Justice. It is Pat Robertson's rightwing, conservative Christian PAC.

I have spoken with hundreds of senior citizens who are outraged at the persistence of the calls at all hours from this group and their overtly coercive techniques for soliciting money. They use scare tactics and threats. Our seniors need to be protected from these unscrupulous telemarketers.

Probably what happens... and they are not supposed to do this I heard... but anyway they dial several people at one time and who ever picks up first gets to talk to someone the rest get dead air space... UGH!!! I hate that too, that is why I do not answer calls from numbers that I do not know. Thanks for your comments and I hope I helped you.  Have a great day!

ACLJ - American Center for Law and Justice - (202)607-2572

Founded by Pat Robertson, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and its Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow quickly established themselves as key players in the right-wing movement, litigating a variety of cases at all levels, including the Supreme Court. The ACLJ has been particularly active in fighting marriage equality and defending the Pledge of Allegiance, while Sekulow has maintained very close ties to the Bush White House and played a central role in pushing for the confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito.

You are correct, they have their rights to how they believe, but I don't call them they call me.  I have a right to object to their interrupting my day to listen to their spouting off.

How is promoting a religious/political belief by someone different than you hateful? That's absurd. That's the same as me saying that you are hateful for being "sensitive" to the notion of God and/or religion. Try growing a little thicker skin and suck it up.. not everyone has you point of view.

This is for the ACLJ... they fight for American freedom and fight against terrorism. Yes, the person on the other end is probably just making automated calls. They get a beep in their ear and that's when they're supposed to start talking. Usually there is a moment of silence before they can begin talking while their computer pulls all the information for that person. If you are getting a call from them, it is likely that you signed one of their petitions...

This is legit and not a scam...
