Holly, I wouldn't pay anything.  We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  They have an F rating on their site and over 100 complaints towards them.  If they try to collect anything else, we are going to get our attorney involved.

Yup, these idiots call me, too, every single day. We have no affiliation with them and I repeatedly request to be taken off their list. Today I asked for a Supervisor and he just kept on giving me a sales pitch. When I asked for his company's name and address, he just kept saying, "There isn't one. We're an outbound call center in Northern Asia."  They say that they represent "American Yellow Pages" and they want to update our listing with them and they're not telemarketing. We have no such listing with them, never had.

I actually fell for this!!  A guy with a thick indian accent called me asking me to update our Yellow Pages listing.  I knew that we advertised with the Yellow Pages, so I asked them if we had advertised with them before and the Indian guy (he said his name was Mac) said we were long-time customers.  I then receive a invoice for $459.95!!  We reported them to the BBB.  We're waiting to hear back.  I think that they post your info on their website before they even call you.  Then when you question whether or not you're a customer of theirs, they direct you to the website and show you how you're listed.

There is only one guy that answers the customer service line.  He was extremely rude and said there was no way of getting out of it and that we had to pay.  I can't believe i was scammed!!

Can anyone let me know if they got this resolved?

They called our office a few times and I just felt it wasn't on the up and up so asked them to take me off their list... which they didn't and called again with the same VERY PUSHY pitch that we're already listed, we're not charging you anything right now, we'll just send you an invoice for a the discounted 2 years for your listing, etc.  "Mac" would not give me a phone number nor a website, that alone told me something.  They just need you to say you authorize them sending an invoice and since it's a recorded line, that's where they get you.  DO NOT AUTHORIZE ANYTHING!  If you indeed do have a listing through your local Yellow Pages most likely you're paying it along with your phone bill.  Tell them you want to CANCEL your listing and do not ever want to be listed again with them.  Since it's not a real company and it has nothing to do with the actual Yellow Pages you are losing nothing.  If you authorize the listing, you're out $450.

We were contacted last week about this and actually gave the our cc# thinking we were paying our BellSouth Real YellowPages ad.  Well, it was the "American Yellow Pages" and we are having no luck getting out of this.  We called Master Card to see if we could dispute it and they said to work with American Yellow Pages.  We were successful in getting back in contact with "Jennifer", whom we origianlly gave our cc# to and she is supposed to have the Legal Dept. call us back to give us the recording of us agreeing to this.  Does anyone know if we are legally bound to anything legit?  The only thing we can think of that we may have agreed to was maybe sending an invoice to us or a free trial.  I don't think this is a legit company.

I have received several calls from this company claiming to be the "American Yellow Pages." They keep telling me that we are existing customers and they would like to verify our information so it is updated for their next listing -- at a cost of $459!!!  When I asked for a supervisor, the caller indicated that he was the supervisor.  When I asked for a toll free number to call them back, he said there wasn't one.  After continuously interrupting me with his sales pitch, he finally got frustrated with me and hung up.

I get calls from this number sometimes 3 times a day. Always in the morning and afternoon, and sometimes even at night.

I have not been answering for a few weeks, but this morning I decided to see who it was, and answered. As soon as I did, they hung up. Incredibly annoying. I would love to be able to turn these people in.

The call and let it ring 3 times. Then the auto-dialer hangs up. This is my Cell Phone but the number was a land line business number about 5 years ago! It's been my private cell number since then. The number is on the Do Not Call List and has been since the list was started.

I'm getting calls from this number also saying that my yellow pages ad is listed with them. They then ask me if I would like to cancel it. I told them them that I am not listed with them. I then told them to take me off of their call list and hung up. They have called about three times, once today. I'm sure it's a scam.

Can someone who gets a live person on the phone ask for a website?  Then we can find out who is making the calls.

The person you are talking about is Will Olbhan or so he says.
I was contacted by this so called GOAM MEDIA representing The Yellow Pages.
Since I do advertise in The Yellow Pages I thought nothing of it. I told the
man, with an Indian accent, a number of times, to leave my ad as it is.
When he handed me over to( Will), I proceeded to answer all his questions with a yes,and of course this was all recorded.
After about 1 week I got a bill for 459.95! Needless to say at that time I called my local Yellow Pages to confirm this bill. They informed me they were not affiliated with them at all!
So I proceeded to call GOAM MEDIA to cancel. Will told me I would have had to cancel within 10 days. This was 15 days from his invoice, 10 days from the mailing date. He also informed me my ad went to print already, this was 3-28-08. Now he sent me a bill with interest, and also reminded me of his recording of my agreement to purchase.
On 5-7-08 I called (Will) and said I was representing a company considering placing an ad,
and was there still time to beat the publisher's dead line? He informed me it did not go to print yet, and I had till 5-21-08. Imagine that! He told me on 3-28-08 I couldn't cancel because it went to print already.
I'm going to send this to the better business bureau of Florida. I would also like to know what the state of Florida's policy is concerning consumers' right to cancel.

Contact the Attorney General if you have received a bill. This is the best way to report the consumer fraud. The BBB is ok but they really don't have much power or authority to do anything but black list the company. Your local Attorney General will contact the American Yellow Pages or you can send American Yellow Pages any response you get and they will imediately stop trying to collect the bogus bill. Plus the more complaints the Attorney General gets then the greater the chance they will take serious legal action against this fraudulant company.

I don't have caller ID so I can't verify the phone number I was called from; however everything else matches. The caller had an Indian accent. She said she would keep my listing the same and my bill would remain the same at $459. I told her this was a mistake we never pay for yellow page listings. She insisted we were long time customers and did I want to cancel my listing. I said there is nothing to cancel since we don't have a listing. She kept asking if I want to cancel my listing - so I said "This is deceptive marketing, what you are doing is illegal." She kept asking if I want to cancel my listing. I then replied "Do what you need to do - I am not paying for anything. This is fraud." I am worried because she has my first and last name along with me answering Yes to several of her questions regarding my company name, address etc... They can alter the tape to make it sound like I am agreeing to something. We'll see if they try to send me a bill.

This is a scam! Do not pay a penny to these people. I have been investigating them ever since they entered my life. I received 2 phone calls and on both I threatened legal action and wondered how they slept at night? I never received another phone call but have been pursuing them ever since. I went online at first and found that lame GOAM Media does not scam letter but please. If this was your company and hundreds of people are being scammed everyday by supposedly your company wouldn't you CARE more than post a blog. Goam media is at he heart of this and is corrupt!

My mother was screwed out of nearly $600 from them and the BBB won't help you. They know an attorney will cost you more than what the bill is. They have a legal dept. that knows every state's laws.

According to our state, Ohio, we are bound to this because they taped it. My mother thought it was our AT & T advertising.

These kinds of companies are legal even though they screw you over. As long as they post your business, they can get away with it. The BBB won't help you other than posting that you made a complaint.

Good luck to anyone taken by them. Unless you have a lawyer in the family or a big enough business that has a legal dept., sorry to say, you're pretty much screwed.

Just wanted to let everyone know that you can beat this!  We filed a complaint with the Florida BBB, the Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General.  Don't pay anything and don't back down.  We filed a cease and desist order and filed a complaint with the BBB stating that our dispute would only be resolved if they completely cancelled our "listing" and sent us proof that they had done so.  It worked!  we received a letter from the BBB stating that they have completely voided our contract!!  Don't pay anything and don't give up.  They will threaten you with collections, but the BBB said that they have never seen a case that actually went to collections!  Good Luck

Right now Im watching a TV program on our national danish TV, about a call center in India, that sells these listings in "American Yellow Pages". It shows that the call center is run as some sort of sweat shop, where the grumpy supervisor fires people at will, and pacing the employees to make a sale. Some of the employees are highly educated MBA´s and engineers. But as you all know now, its a scam. And not a very good one, it seems they dont even make one sale a week. They made one when the camera crew was there, and there was no end to the joy:-).
Just to put a face on your attacker.

My client received an invoice for a listing supposedly authorized by a now-fired employee who never had authority or permission to obligate my client to any debt or to order a phone listing or purchase advertising.  I have sent them a cease and desist letter and will bring a suit under the FCRA if this matter appears on any credit report.   FTR, I entered my own name in their engine, and I have never bought from nor talked with these people, nor have I heard of them until today.  My listing appears.  So, they're not charging for listing.  They're listing, then trying to scam money out of people after the fact.

They call my work about once a week. They try to get you to say yes. even if its in respnse to the question " do you want to cancel your listing" then they record it and say you authorized charges. so they send you a bill for 500 bux.
search for Goam media or goamericanyellow or something like that. they arent legit. and dont follow the rules so do be surprised that they still call even though you are on a do not call list. that doesnt matter.
on the website they have 2 phone numbers also.
best thing is to not talk to them at all so you dont get tricked into saying the word "yes".

I received a call marked PRIVATE on my cell phone on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 around 9:00 a.m..  The first time I answered he told me my Social Security number and said "WE NEED TO TALK NOW"-well I was at work and I told him I would call him back and I hung up.  He continued to call but I did not answer, so he left a threatening message on my phone with this phone number, stating that I needed to call him back immediately because the Police were going to come and me picked up from my job within a couple of hours.

He claimed he worked for the United States Federal Investigation Bureau and his name is Andrew Young.  He told me the name of my Bank, my Bank Account Routing #, and my Checking Account #.  He said that I had an unpaid account with a Pay Day Loan company and the interest has accumulated and I now owe thousands of dollars. I told him this account was paid, but he kept putting me on hold and screaming and talking real fast saying that "I did not close this account and that I needed to resolve this matter now" or I would put in jail.  He said I owed Midland Marketing Company and the National Bank of America, and that if I wanted to resolve this matter now, I needed to hold on, because they had an Attorney available to service me.

My co-worker listened to the message and suggested that I called the FBI in Detroit (313) 965-2323. The FBI told me to call him back and get all the information and ask for a copy of this debt. Well when I called him back and told him I had contacted the REAL FBI and they want to see a copy of this debt so they could help me, he started screaming "DON"T YOU EVER CALL THIS NUMBER AGAIN" AND THEN HE HUNG UP ON ME!!!  Three days later, he called again, and I told him "We have already talked" and he said "SO", and I said "I contacted the FBI and we need a copy" -and before I could finish my sentence - HE HUNG UP AGAIN!!!PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!  Thank GOD for the FBI

"Kevin" has called every day for the past 2 weeks. He has very broken English, wants to verify our company information to update in his system. He then transfers me to an English speaking guy named "Mike" in the so called shipping department (not sure what there is to ship if Kevin's updating the information as we speak????) When Mike told me about the $459.95 price I told him I was not authorized to approve that charge. He apologized and hung up. "Kevin" called back and was very nasty because I couldn't approve the charge. I asked him to remove our name and number from his list and disconnected the call. He continues to call. Now they are saying they spoke w/ the managing partner and received the approval for the update (lies, lies, lies). I told them again to take our name and number off their list. What do these morons not get?

I just got into a heated arguement with a rep from this fake company.  They called and said they wanted to update info and offer 2 years for $459 - I declined serveral times and he said he wanted to speak to the owner.  I said I am the decision maker and he had the nerve to say I was lying and that if I didnt accept the the two years at that price they were sending to ME directly (not to my company but to ME) a $500 cancellation fee for declining.  I told him he cannot charge me for something I didnt cancel.  After running in circles I just told him not to call and hung up.  lets see what happens
