They called me and said that whole hurrah about 9000 dollars. The lady ddnt even know english that well. SCAM why would the "government" ever hire an unamerican lady who doesn't even know how to say "california"? Another question HOW DO THEY KNOW WHERE I LIVE AND WHAT MY NAME IS!? Someone should catch these people its kinda freaky

I answered the call, but no one said anything.  I hung up and called back, got that message that they are not receiving incoming calls. I work for the government...we have voicemail and accept incoming calls; these guys can't be legit governmental.  I hope someone shuts them down soon before they do any real damage!!

I got a call from that number while I was at work yesterday afternoon, but on my cell phone.  Since I was in a meeting, I ignored the call and tried to call it back later.  At the request of the subscriber, they don't accept incoming calls.  WTF?

Just received a call from 1-202-779-8838 (Washington, DC) saying I qualified for a $9,000 grant. ALL I need to do is give them my bank acct number or credit card number so they can transfer my funds. Wish I still had last years HR Block Emerald card I would have said fill her up since it has a $0 balance and they couldn't charge it!

I also just received a call from these people....this is my second time speaking with them. I let her ramble on in her broken English and then said, "so, if I have been selected to receive this money, can you please tell me my name." She responded with something in a foreign language and then hung up the phone. It's sad that someone could fall for this scam. What can we do to stop this??

Just received two calls from this number one behind the other. After missing the first call, a second  one came through before the first could be returned. The second call appeared as 11-202-779-8838.

This was very out of the ordinary with regards to my inbound calls, so I opted to wait for a voice mail message.

Needless to say it never arrived.

February 14, 3:43pm CST. I got a call from a foreign accent male claiming to be from the "Unisted States Government Grants Department." He said that because of my "good relationship with the government", "never filing bankruptcy", and "paying all my bills on time" I was being given a "once in a lifetime grant" of $9,000. He said it could either be deposited into my bank account or given in the form of a prepaid credit card. I told him it didn't sound legit and I hung up. HOW IS THIS LEGAL!!?!?!?!?

I received a call from 202-779-8838 today, 2/14/13.  I actually missed the call which came in on my cell phone.  No message was left, but in reviewing the call log, I accidentally made the number ring back.  As I was trying to disconnect, I heard a message so I listened.  The message said that the number does not receive incoming calls.  That message peaked my curiosity so I tried to look up the number on Google.  That's were I found this site.  I don't have unlimited minutes, so I don't want my number used by anyone to whom I have not given the number.  I primarily have the phone in case of emergencies.   I certainly don't want any scam artist calling me if that is what the call is about. I am thankful for a place to report this type call.  I hope someone can stop the caller.

some kind of scam from this number.  Could not understand voice of speaker.

Just like everyone else I got a call from this number. I got the same broken English and strong background noise as everyone else is reporting. I won't even try to place the person's accent, it could have been underwater it was so bad. They said I qualified for the $9000 grant but everything else was lost in the bad accident and noise. I think it's obvious this is from overseas, from God knows where. I called the local law enforcement and gave him the information about this. Really do these idiots think we are so stupid as to give out personal information for something like this? Scammers need to find a new hobby.

I got this same call from the same number. Dude with broken English. I asked him what he was trying to sell me, and did he have thin mint cookies..He said "what", and I said "look Hoss, you called me, don't ask me what I said". I could have sworn he said I was arrested by the Government..lol

Similar to other call recipients who chose not to answer. They left no message. I called back and it said the number could not receive incoming calls. Glad I missed out on this scam. Thanks to everyone for reporting.

Just got a call from someone who barely spoke English about being chosen in a random selection to receive $9,000 from the government..I hung up.

I just go the same call, about 10 mins ago. The number that called me was 202-779-3383, and the number they wanted me to call was 202-697-9911.

Got 202-779-8838, v/m, with no msg left, tried to call back, the msg indicates subcriber does not take incoming phone calls.

Nothing but a scam, peoople - tired of these..

My mother received a call from this number and they stated the same thing as above. She said that they guy was rude. She called back and it won't go through. So it is a scam.

I would like to report a caller who is targeting cell phone #'s and contact both my cell # and my husbands cell # on the 02/08/2013.  Just like the others who have filled compliants on this number, the back ground noise was crazy and the caller spoke very broken english and could only make out that he was calling from Washington DC.  I told him that he had called a private unlisted number and not to call back and then blocked the number from both cell phones.

Just received same number calling my cell phone and didn't answer and tried to call it back after googling this # and seen this from all you responders saying what this # did ...same thing happened to me as well.

I just received a call from that number.  I didn't answer it because it was an unfamiliar number.  I called it back and received a message saying the same thing about not being able to receive calls.  I wouldn't have given them any information anyway.

I got the SAME call as everyone else, about the $9000 grant money.  Loud background noise, like a fan... broken english.  

I let them give me the spill until they wanted to get info on how to deposit my money.  I then politely explained that they called a police investigator and I do not appreciate getting calls about scams.  The woman then said, "F---- Y---" and hung up.  LOL  When I called back the number said they do not accept incomming calls. I searched through one program we use to get information on individuals and phone numbers and it did not give a return.  

I dont expect them to call again.  I have had people hang up on me before, of course, but this was a first.  

Unfortunately they have ways of getting numbers to call, and using numbers that cant be traced (at least not by local authorities) so hard to do anything about it.  What is sad is that they do get people to actually give them personal information.

Just recently got a call myself from this number, do not give them your info I repeat do not give them your info.

Just got a missed call from same number. Didn't answer it because I was on the other line. They left no message. I tried to call it back and it said "at the subscribers request this number doesn't accept incoming calls" and then some rambled off numbers. Why are people allowed to do things like that and where do they get my cell phone number? This is absurd and should be stopped.

Just got the call also - female, broken english, won't accept return calls, can't send check - can only send money direct to your bank account or credit card; couldn't even read the script she was reading from very well. Said a new law prevented them ("the government") from sending me the money any way except as above. Said no thanks!

i got the same call but what was stupid about it i answered but all i heared was background noise.
