Calling and stating they are filing "Criminal Charges" is a scare tactic used to get folks to call. By law, any legitimate collection agency may not threaten/bully/coerce as debt is not a criminal matter. DO report these idiots and advise them that you are reporting any phone numbers you receive from them to the FBI, local authorities, FTC and State Attorney General. Advise them that the messages they leave are against federal law and they need to cease and desist calling. Also advise these zombie collectors that you have made a copy of their message(s), noted each one and will be absolutey providing those message to law enforcement officials.  Also, by law, they cannot leave a message threatening anyone as a collection/debt collector without disclosing their name, and the name of the company they are working for and their business address. If they will not provide their company, name, etc., then advise them again that you will be going to various law enforcement officials for fraudulent collections activities that is a crime with jail time.

NEVER give out your address or social security number if they ask for it. Instead, have them give it to you... if they refuse, remind them that if they were a legitimate collection agency, they would already have your information. Without it, they may not serve a summons.. even at work.  Also, they may not serve a summons without your being notified, in writing, what the original of your debt is to include the original date of delinquency. If that debt is outside the statute of limitation for your state for them to legally collect, tell them to shove it up their keaster and advise them that they are practicing illegally collection practices.

I have been having a similar issue for the past 2 days.  This is absolutely a scam.  I'm a collection agent and the way they're going about it is absolutely illegal.  By law they have to disclose what company they are calling from, provide their name, state what is fraudulent, the filing attorney and address (that you send a letter to requesting information regarding your "case" that should provide initial date of original debt).  Look up the . The messages they leave violates the law... they are not allowed to provide you a summons without your first being able to address the debt. No judge is going to put up with that.

The National Association of Attorneys is not a collection group but a site that lawyers can get together and network.... like Facebook.

Please protect yourself: http://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/rules/rulemaki ... es-act-text#811  and know your rights.

These scam artists are also calling from a VOip number 913.730.7399 in case you see this one pop up on your phone. Please be sure to report these numbers to the authorities and State Attorney General of the local state.

I received a call today from the very same number 203-610-8489! Lady(I use the term loosely) left an 18 second partial message on my voice mail. Computer voice first said my name then a woman came on and said that my SS number(not me) had been involved in fraudulent activities and charges were being filed against it the courts(what courts tennis?). I laughed at how funny and stupid it was worded when I heard message then it made me mad. I called back the number on my caller id because she didn't leave any call back info. Man answers the phone and says hold...I hung up and called back. He answered this time as National Association of Attorneys. I told him I needed his physical business address to provide to Texas State Attorney General. He stuttered and said I don't have to give that out. I said yes sir you do and the attorney's name filing the charge. Operating a public law office would require it otherwise you are the one committing fraud. He hung up. I did report this and I think everyone should. I do owe anyone and even if I did I would not give these moron scammers any info.

Thank you all for doing these feedbacks.  It is greatly appreciated.  Especially with all these scams and liers out there.
I just got a call from them with the same message as the ones reported.  That they will serve me and sue me and that they had matched my SS# with these debts.  That I needed to call them back or I would loose my rights if I didn't, etc etc.

Just remember... in all states the statute of limitations for a debt is 3 to 15 years, depending on the state.  Almost all are 5 or 6 years, with rhode island being 15 years.  After that your bill is uncollectable in court.  Dont let these f****ng b*****ds suck you into paying.  By calling me, they dialed the wrong number if they think they will get a penny out of me

Just got a call from them over a 1998 capital one bill, they told me I would be served a summons for fraud.  Funny, the statute of limitations in maine for even fraud have lon since passed,  6 years is how long they have to collect it here.  I think its amusing.  I told them to serve me here at the hospice, as I only have a month to  live.   Lol  I really am dying of cancer too

Says I will get a summons at work and at home this is not my home phone number....so do they know me or is it for work???????

I just got a call from the same number 203-610-6489. What a crock, they said there was fraudulent activity associated with my SS# and a summons will be served to my work place and to be sure to let my workplace know... well the name they gave me was from my 1st marriage which I haven't had in over 20 years!! These people should be tared and feathered for these ridiculous phone calls.

The "time frame" is a Statute of Limitations, which does not (in 48 states) limit "how long a creditor has to collect a debt". SoL sets a deadline for *suing* you to collect. A collection agency can legally ask you to pay some car note from around the Carter administration so long as nobody mentions "court" or "lawsuit".

That said, thugs like this have no intention of suing and probably can't because the debt is imaginary, both conditions making their bullying calls illegal.

I have received calls from the same numbers you have listed threatening me with fraudulent activity associated with my SS# as well. The thing is I received a call from a totally different number about 2 weeks before these started. The same type of threat. Said it was fraudulent activity and breach of contract. I finally contacted the loan company they said that I was having the charges filed from and they confirmed what I thought was correct. I filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and this account was charged off and my bankruptcy discharged. I do not owe them anything and they told me that I am not the only client who called about these threats. I was to ignore them. The thing is the phone number of 203-610-6489 was supposedly from two different places. Friday I received a call saying that I had to take care of the actions taken against me or I would be sent to court and they the guy said he was calling from Brunson & Associates, then I get a call today after I told him that I have contacted the loan company and it has been included in bankruptcy and he said okay I will call them then hung up. Then today I received a call from the same place and they said they were calling from the National Association of Attorneys. I was like yeah right, then proceeded to tell the lady off and told her that I am tired of receiving the calls and before I even gave her any names etc, she said okay I will verify that your account was updated and then came back and said you will not receive any more calls and your account has been updated then hung up. I was like yeah right lady I didn't even give you my claim number or other information to know who you were really talking to. I am contacting my Attorney General about these calls. I was told that I would receive my summons after they updated my address and my employer's address and to expect to go to court and good luck in court. That ticked me off that is when I called and she said that she would update my account. What a LIE!!! They never had anything against me to begin with. They are scammers and need to be stopped some how.

This is another example of foreign scamming criminals mixing up their legalities. Lose your rights? Maybe in Mumbai, but not in North America. And of course, debt is civil, not criminal. Criminal charges for an old loan? Next time they call, ask them how's the weather in India today?

These people are stupid. They leave a voice mail saying criminal charges have been started and I have lost my right to settle this out of court and then they say the client is willing to settle this out of court if I call today.  Stupid! Which is it?  Pick a threat if you're going to try to scare people! I'm not the one they are looking for and I have their number set on auto reject where it goes straight to voice mail. They have called me at least 10 times and each time they say it's my final warning.  Stupid! If it's final then stop calling or at least get the hint I'm not falling for their crap.

I had the same thing happen to me!   They some how got my mothers cell phone, whom I haven't lived with in 27 years. As a matter of fact, my parents are in Florida and Im in Pennsylvania. There is no logical reason for them to connect the two of us but some how they have.   Is it a website selling off our information?  Thanks for the info on the Police Dept. I'll be sure to direct them accordingly.  A co-worker suggested they may be charging for the calls as well?  Or should I say the return calls.

I just received a call from this number and have been for the last few days. I told Carlos Johnson if he called my phone one more time, I will report this number, his company and have his damn job. Obviously he doesn't know who he is calling. I called my police department and was adv that any more calls can get forwarded to their non emergency number and they will speak with the people. They are calling from 203-610-6489 and 501-490-9400 and I am sick of them calling my phones! They called 2 numbers that are not registered to me, but I own. I don't give out my cell number, how the hell are they calling my cell?
