Now that I recall, I did some kind of thing for a radio station about 10 years ago. A bunch of people in my age range showed up at a large hotel group room. About 80+ people.

We listened to short clips of music and marked down our impression of the clip from postive to negative on a scale of 1-5 I think.

It was about 2 hours and I got $40-50 but that was many years ago. Maybe a different company ?

I certainly had a different phone number. Not sure how they got this one.

The above is an email confirmation after I agreed to be in their focus Group. When they called me, they left a detailed message on my answering machine and I called them back.

I dont know how they got my name but I think possibly from my health insurance company. BCBS. Because they seemed to know I had health insurance. When 9 months ago I did not.

Received a call from this number.  I don't answer the phone from numbers I do not recognize.  You're wasting your time.  If I need  a service; I know how to call myself.   It's probably another scam.  I didn't like working for thirty years, but I refuse to try to scam someone else.......

First call said they were conducting a survey of discount stores.  I just hung up.  They immediately called back.  I yelled at them to remove my number, they promptly hung up.
Next evening, they called back with another survey.  Luckily, for them, my wife answered and politely refused.

We've received calls from this number several times, usually at odd hours, with nothing left on the answering machine. New South Research (NSR) is a company that conducts surveys for other clients. Surveys are NOT covered by the DNC list, just like political fundraisers, charities and churches aren't covered. You don't have to answer if you see NSR on your caller ID, but they aren't doing anything illegal by calling. Therefore, it seems, there is no real recourse, other than to answer the phone and scream at the $5/hour underling who is just calling numbers from a list to read a script they were given by their supervisors. I know its annoying, but I've been on both sides of this one. I worked for another telephone research company while in college. If you never answer, eventually, whatever survey they're doing will expire, and they will quit calling. Or you cuss out some college student, housewife or grandma trying to make a little extra money by doing a job nobody likes.

NSR is a public opinion research company.  They do not ask for money and they are not selling anything, therefore they are not covered by the rules of the Do Not Call list.

Companies that are not asking for money and not selling anything can call anyone, any time they want.
A vast majority of the politicians out there hire companies just like NewSouth Resarch to call voters for them.  Do you think that the the politicians are going to write laws that prevent them from reaching voters or potential voters?  No.

Everyone needs to read the Do Not Call list rules and regulations.  Just because it's called Do Not Call, doesn't mean that everyone out there has to abide and is subject to those rules.

Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?

Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000 .

What about telephone surveys?

If the call is really for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is not covered. Only telemarketing calls are covered — that is, calls that solicit sales of goods or services. Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the National Do Not Call Registry.

I've gotten several calls from this number.  Got another one tonight and they promptly hung up on me as soon as I answered.  Getting pretty fed up with it personally.  I didn't serve my country for 15 years to be subjected to this abject stupidity and rudeness.  It needs to stop or there will be consequences.  I've recorded this as the 3rd hang-up call to which I, and the law by the way, consider a prank call and, or, nusiance call.  Keep it up and I'll see you in court and I could use the money since the Government sure didn't pay us soldiers worth a damn.

I have been called about 6 times this past week from this number 205-985-3363. The calls started right before the end of 2010 around 12/30/2010. I don't answer these calls. I put my number under the National do Not Call list and also Mississippi's do not call registry , but I guess that didn't work. If anybody knows anymore about this company or if they are doing something illegal please post it online and call the better business bureau in your state or the federal trade commision and report it.In the past I had an experience of some psychic line calling me , and suddenly I received a bill in the mail for $230.00 for which I disputed and reported to the BBB , State Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office and the bill was a scam, the company used scare tactics and threaten to report it on my credit, but once an investigation was completed by the FTC it was dropped. I just wonder how they got my personal information from a computer voice call to my telephone in which I did answer once and immediately hanged up , soon after I received the bill in the mail.

My cell phone is on a no-solicit list, but the caller had my number.  Called at 8:25 on election eve.  Wanted me to attend a "community meeting"  one evening to give opinions on local hospital facilities.  It would be a 2-hour meeting and would "pay me $75.00."  (I said no.)
Someone wants to know when I'll be away from home at least 2 hours.

I found this website for NSR.  I have no idea what kind of company they are, but it states they are not a verified company.  This is the web  address: http://www.merchantcircle.com/business.  It looks like some kind of marketing company.  They must do something right or someone in the company has a lot of money because having an office in Riverchase is not cheap.
