I go this same email and same text from the phone number through Cars.com. Spoke to their Fraud department and they were not surprised.

Beware, different number now! I'm glad I saw this forum, I was getting suspicious!

Placed an ad on cars.com and early morning 8am received a text from 'Gary' , WITH ANOTHER NUMBER 385.233.2959

"I saw ur vehicle on cars.com, is d ad stil valid, get bak 2me on my personal email (icemondo2@yahoo.com) 4futher correspondence.

and the email:

What is the asking price for the purchase? and can you tell me about the service history/record? Get back to me with the concrete details.

Same idiot hit me up last night as well with the exact same follow up email as You received.  I just reponded to him and said.  You would know the price of the car if you look at the ad.  Googled your email and number and you are a known scammer.  Thanks for nothing!

Same scam here.  Must have picked the name from the golden arches!  That was my first alert that he went by McDonalds !

I offered to meet him somewhere.  No response. Surprise !!!!!

Oh, he sent it using his 973 number.  I posted my ad on cars.com, as well.

I just got a message from icemondo2@yahoo.com.  Creep!!

Same  deal as the rest...posted on cars.com last night received a text this morning.  Phone 973-486-4605, e-mail icemondo2@yahoo.com.  I was excited for about 30 seconds...glad I checked here.  I will try to report to cars.com.

David is now using phone # 973-486-4605 ;(  I'm glad you all posted on here b/c I almost fell for it, grrr!!!  He sent me the same msgs and is using the same email address.

Thanks so much for confirming my suspicion.  I even went to a local Honda car dealer and they believed this scam artist.  He asked for additional pictures which I felt he was looking for license plate numbers since he had the VIN from the Car Fax report.  Be careful with those pictures!!

He is now going by David McDonald but same MO.  (The area code is out of Atlanta.)  Tip off for me was sender "From" name was David McDonalds and signed McDonald.  McDonald is so American, he is certainly thinking we are stupid using ole Ronald McDonald as a front.  Some of my communications were:

Just to add, he is now using the number 631.618.8159 and using the name David.  You'd think he would change up his MO a little.

Go the exact same email message today, not 6 hours after posting on cars.com. This must be a scam.

i got the same correspondence today. i am so glad my research found this website.

Same, texted me early morning from 562-453-0959 inquiring about my vehicle on Cars.com. Gave me his email of icemondo3@yahoo.com and signed G.Mc. Emailed back and forth about service record, decided he wanted to buy it via Paypal without seeing the car. Said he was "out of town." Same sentence structure as the people above, he stated "4 further correspondence."

I got an offer from the same number from Gary McDonald. Exact wording in message via e-mail and phone. Glad I did some research before continuing. Hope everyone else will also do some digging before they are also scamed. Luckily I saw this and backed off immediately.

Same message after I posted my ad on cars.com (see below) - different number for me (2408128327). Glad I discovered this site and the warnings before I wasted any more time than two messages on this. He is still using the icemondo2@yahoo.com email.

Text from a cycletrader ad I had posted, standard paypal scam.

We received the exact same text today (As listed above) from ice Mondo.  Does he really think we are idiots?

WISE UP FOLKS.. Your first clue is the AREA code.. your next clue.. they always message "it" or "item" they dont say "2002 Mustang" or "washer/dryer"  .. whatever your ad is for... and they want your EMAIL address..(and worse scammers for your bank info)   Email address  are  sold every day.. where do you think all that JUNK comes from..  THIS IS 2012.. these scams should be old school by now.. Ebay, Craiglist, Car.com anywhere you list.. you will get a scam.. if you cant recognise how they all look alike.. protect yourself by not posting. Or at least google every name, number and email address you get before responding.

I respond to NO ONE with out a google ( lol THAT should be in a Tshirt.. )

Read all of these posts. I just posted my car on cars.com yesterday and got the same information. 209-213-7631. The email used is icemondo2@yahoo.com. I just reminded him that interstate fraud is investigated by the FBI. I got the reply "AND?" So he is either trying to play dumb or is taunting me. I may just forward this info to my local field office.
